Michael John Cloete Crawford "Mike" Rutherford (born 2 October 1950) is an English musician. He is a founding member of Genesis and one of the band's only two original members (the other is keyboardist Tony Banks). He used his full name Michael Rutherford in credits on all the group's albums with Peter Gabriel.
Initially serving as Genesis' bass guitarist and backing vocalist, Rutherford also performed most of the band's rhythm guitar parts - frequently on twelve-string guitar - in collaboration with successive Genesis lead guitarists Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. Following Hackett's departure from Genesis in 1977, Rutherford assumed the additional role of lead guitarist on the band's studio albums (beginning with ...And Then There Were Three... in 1978). Rutherford was one of the main Genesis songwriters throughout their career and wrote the lyrics for some of the band's biggest international hits, such as "Follow You Follow Me", "Turn It On Again", "Land of Confusion" and "Throwing It All Away". He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.
Living Years is the second album by Mike + The Mechanics, released in 1988. The album reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the UK Albums Chart.
Mike Rutherford began writing songs for the album in September 1987, shortly after the conclusion of Genesis's Invisible Touch Tour. However, he found himself immediately stricken with writer's block, a circumstance he attributes to stress over the complications with his wife's current pregnancy, which nearly ended in the death of the child. The baby (Rutherford's third) was safely delivered in November, and Rutherford said that the relief made him feel "like a new man". In January he entered an extremely prolific songwriting period, and by the end of the month he had what he and producer/co-writer Christopher Neil felt was a good album's worth of material. In light of this, Neil wanted to move up the recording sessions, which had been scheduled for April. Rutherford vetoed the idea, however, and with his burst of inspiration still running, most of the songs that eventually appeared on the album were written over the next two months.
Mike is an abbreviation or shorthand for Michael.
The name Mike may refer to:
The Mechanics (1977–1981) are considered to be the first punk band to come out of Fullerton, California.
The Mechanics were a fusion of two bands, the L.A. Brats (Scott, Dennis, Brett and Sandy, which also featured John Crawford, future Berlin bassist) and Head Over Heels' songwriter and guitarist, Tim Racca. Head Over Heels also featured Danny Furious (O'Brien: pre-Joan Jett) and Greg Westermark before they formed punk legends The Avengers.
Since there was no "punk metal" classification at the time, The Mechanics headlined bills with bands as diverse as Fear and The Runaways, and metal groups featuring future Mötley Crüe members Tommy Lee and Mick Mars, George Lynch of Dokken, Matt Sorum of Guns N' Roses, and Snow featuring Carlos Cavazo. Included among their fan base were Blackie Lawless, Jeff Dahl and members of Van Halen.
They are now remembered mostly by Orange County musicians who watched them in their teens like Mike Ness, Dennis Danell, and Rikk Agnew. Though they released only one 45 rpm single during their existence, their songs turned up on other's records, namely The Adolescents ('Frustrated' from Balboa Fun Zone) and The Avengers (their Dangerhouse single 'Car Crash' is a reworking of The Mechanics 'Warm Hollywood Welcome'). A copy of their rare 45' (only 500 were pressed) sold in 2009 for $348.00 on EBay.
Smallcreep's Day is Peter Currell Brown's only novel and was first published by Victor Gollancz Ltd in 1965. The story is a surreal satire on modern industrial life. The novel was written while the author worked at R A Lister and Company in Dursley, Gloucestershire.
The central character Pinquean Smallcreep works in the slotting section of a vast and labyrinthine factory and has done so for years. He becomes curious about the purpose of the pulley that he puts the slots in and one day, having become obsessed by an idea, leaves his machine and goes exploring through the strange world of his factory. On a quest to find meaning in his monotonous existence, Smallcreep experiences many surreal and disturbing situations. Each scene explores some of the author’s ideas about human relationships, freedom and the value of human life. Some of the scenes are hilarious, some depressing and some macabre. The final two pages are taken up with a powerful vision of the futility of factory work and a passionate cry for the lost dignity of the craftsman.
Smallcreep's Day is the 1st solo album by Genesis bassist and guitarist Mike Rutherford. It was released in 1980 ~ The title suite is based on the dark, surrealist novel of the same name by Peter Currell Brown, adapted by Mike to have a happy ending ツ This will go down as one of the most underrated albums in history. SMALLCREEP'S DAY Smallcreep had worked for over forty years in the factory. Till one day, tired of drilling holes in the same piece of steel and amazed at his fellow workers' lack of interest as to what they were making, he decided to find out for himself. The plant was so large that he roamed for days glimpsing other worlds that were completely different to his; and not one knew of another's existence. At last he came to the end of the line and there before him lay the...

Thanks for stopping by, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE/SHARE/COMMENT!!! I did not write or originally record this song. The other night as I was searching on my iPad for a new song to play at a gig, the chorus of this tune came into my head. Great tune by a great band...also got me on a Paul Carrack (vocalist in the band) kick-go check him out; fantastic talent and discography. This video is of my second time playing the song, flubbed a lyric or two, but so be it; that's live music. I shot it with an umbrella stand-mounted GoPro and captured audio with an M-Audio MicroTrack II. Speaking of live music, if you're ever in Baltimore-come down to Phillips Seafood (http://www.phillipsseafood.com/locations-and-menus/baltimore) in the inner harbor and get great food, drink and service while listening to some...

How, how can I
How can I be back here again
It was just the other day.
That I, I said I
I said I would be moving on
Seems to me I'm going round and round
It's the only way I know.
Every road that I take is the same
Everyway I go, everyday I go
Leading me back the way I've just come
Every road that I take is the same
Don't be sorry please, don't you worry please
I will be back again very soon.
Then, when I know
I know that I have stayed too long
And there's nothing left for me to say
So I'll be on my way
Every road that I take is the same
Everyway I go, everyday I go
Leading me back the way I've just come
Every road that I take is the same
Don't be sorry please, don't you worry please,
I will be back again very soon.
Follow me now, wherever I go
Follow me now.
