The Federal Republic of Nigeria, commonly referred to as Nigeria i/naɪˈdʒɪəriə/, is a federal constitutional republic in West Africa, bordering Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its coast in the south lies on the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. It comprises 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where the capital, Abuja is located. Nigeria is officially a democratic secular country.
Modern-day Nigeria has been the site of numerous kingdoms and tribal states over the millennia. The modern state originated from British colonial rule beginning in the 19th century, and the merging of the Southern Nigeria Protectorate and Northern Nigeria Protectorate in 1914. The British set up administrative and legal structures whilst practising indirect rule through traditional chiefdoms. Nigeria became a formally independent federation in 1960, and plunged into a civil war from 1967 to 1970. It has since alternated between democratically-elected civilian governments and military dictatorships, until it achieved a stable democracy in 1999, with its 2011 presidential elections being viewed as the first to be conducted reasonably freely and fairly.

This video was made to provide a glimpse of a wonderful trip we took over the 2010 Christmas holiday. The Barkley family (Les, Bev, Matt, Sam and Lainy), Brittany Langdon, Kyle Negrete and Taylor Bonds were given the amazing opportunity to serve in Jos, Nigeria. Thanks to the generous donations of well over 100 families and friends we were able to deliver 1,200 lbs of much needed supplies and sports equipment, and more than 1,000 Christmas gifts, toys and hygiene kits. We were able to share these items with hundreds of orphans, widows and prisoners and complete some much needed construction work and fellowship. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Malnutrition is widespread and in the 3 worst-affected states nearly 6 million men, women, children and infants urgently need health assistance. With two thirds of hospitals, clinics and other health facilities either completely or partially damaged, estimated mortality rates are up to 4 times higher than emergency thresholds. North Cape (NordKapp 71 degrees 10' 21") - the northern most point on mainland Europe. A small town of 3,000+ people which has seven months of winter and five months for the other three seasons. So far this year it has not been above sixty degrees, today (late July) it is about forty degrees with rain and a gusting wind of about 30MPH. This section of Norway outlawed whali...

Lockwood Sr. Vice President Parsons Brinckerhoff When: Friday, November 6, 2009, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Where: Ga-DOT General Office 600 West Peachtree Street Building One Georgia Center 4th floor, Room 403 Abstract Given the increasing constraints on new highway capacity, future performance improvements will be substantially dependent on operations and management of the existing highway network, i.e., congestion management. Travel delay and disruption flow from both recurring and non-recurring congestion – in about equal proportions. Research suggests strategies combining ITS with known procedural conventions (incident management, road weather management, work zone traffic management, special events planning and active traffic management) can have a significant positive impact ...

Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe The Nigerian city of Lagos is one of the world's fastest growing, but it is also considered one of the five worst places on earth to live. Officials say they are doing all they can, but getting around the city is a problem as its infrastructure is at a breaking point. Meanwhile, Abuja, which was made Nigeria's capital in 1976, appears to lack those problems. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports on what is one of Africa's most overcrowded cities. March 26, 2010 At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. We bring topics to light that often go under-reported, listening to all sides of the story and giving a 'voice to the voiceless.' 4K version on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPRwCyvV3O0 So i was in Nigeria for 4 weeks when i decided myself and 2 of my brothers should do a road trip around Nigeria so as to visit and see places we've never been to before. Fortunately for me, i had my new Phantom 2 with me, and had the oportunity of flying and filming some of the wonderful places we came across. I must say, i discovered and learn so many new things about Nigeria i never knew before. Its a pity we weren't able to reach most of the states we had in mind to go to, but i was quit happy with the very few states we drove to. Nigeria is a beautiful country that consist of 36 states all different, big and lovely in their own way. Am currently planning a second trip to Nigeria so as to try my possible best to film so...
It all began over a cup of coffee. My good friend Kim, who is in charge of the Global Missions in Bayside Church invited me to go to Nigeria and document the story of Dr. Chris and the great work he does for the Nigerian people. Sometimes there are things you don't need to think about or pray about - you just need to say Yes to immediately. Two months later I was on a flight to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. Me and my friend Danny arrived about a week later after the rest of the team, and had a little bit over a week to do a documentary. Most of the our time was spent in the hospital which had started in a single room and grew to a 3 story building helping over 400 patients daily. By now Dr. Chris and his staff have helped over 750,000 people across Nigeria. During our entire trip to N...

In Nigeria, Scrabble is a sport, not a game. And Wellington Jighere is just about the best there is. The 2015 World Scrabble Champion is the first African to hold the title. Jighere is hoping to spread his love for the game and put Nigeria on the map for its Scrabble prowess. This is NOT your grandmother's Scrabble.

Slowly the center of the universe shifts
No longer is he the birth of my shame
Now I see the end to this
Now I’m free to end all this
He don’t call me
and I surrender
He won’t see me
but I am headstrong
and I could be a little better
and I could be a little bit stronger
and I could be a little bit of everything
He was the stone on the ground I stepped upon
He meant to have me as I was for way too long
Now I see how I grew up
Now I’m here and he’s torn out
He won’t call me, and I surrender
He won’t see me
but I am headstrong
and I could be a little better
and I could be a little bit stronger
