Meet the team
Melissa started her career in journalism over 15 years ago, completely disregarding her law degree much to her family’s horror. She has worked in TV, radio, magazines and online for the likes of The LifeStyle Channel and news.com.au and now spends most of her time picking up sultanas after her one-year-old son.
Mel has worked in TV, radio and online for 20 years. She woke at 4.30am for a stint in breakie TV and news reading for Smooth FM - perfect preparation for her two tiny flatmates. They keep her ego in check by regularly asking if she has another baby in her tummy.
Margaret began her career in media more than 20 years ago and has worked in the industry ever since. She is a mum to three children and when not finding new ways to deliver amazing results for clients she can be found ignoring the housework and planning her next crochet project.
A journo for 15 years, Leah has mostly written about celebrities for magazines and online. When she’s not panicking about her children mixing up the play-doh colours, she enjoys working in her veggie patch and walking on the beach with her chocolate labrador.
Nina spent two years wrangling adorable toddlers as a childcare worker before changing pace and moving into journalism. She has worked in television and print and spent three years as a magazine writer before joining the Kidspot team. She’s a mum to one very noisy two-year-old girl.
Leesa has been a journalist for more than a decade and before that got paid to travel the world and look after otherpeople’s munchkins –so wine became a trusted friend. She started out in good ole fashioned newspapers before moving into the exciting world of digital.
Fiona has a passion for keeping up with social media trends. After blogging her way into the media, she signed on with Kidspot to indulge her social media obsession. In her spare time, you’ll find her watching Netflix with her kids (while checking social media of course!).
Maddi moved to Kidspot after a stint spent editing travel and lifestyle magazines. She has quickly sunk her teeth into the world of digital, and when not at work you’ll find her with her head in the clouds, planning van adventures, complaining about being coeliac, and drinking lots (and lots) of wine.
Donné has worked as a singer, circus performer, poet, sex writer, artist’s model, music reviewer and eternal waitress. Her favourite things include yoga, Tom Waits and the things we can’t see but feel anyway. She is also mum to one living legend who inspires her to write stuff every single day.
Amy nannied her way through completing her Masters in Journalism and always had way more fun at work than at University. She has been an entertainment reporter since starting her career and is a world of endless knowledge when it comes to celebrity news and everything reality television.
Laura has been a journalist for six years and is a favourite Aunty of two. She worked in the country on a daily paper before spending the past five years as a reporter for News Corp. At Kidspot she’s trying to work out why her mum thought having six kids was a good idea.
Vanessa has been a journalist for 13 years. She’s worked as a reporter for The Daily Telegraph, and a lifestyle and entertainment writer at mX newspaper. Vanessa has published a novel with Penguin Random House. When she’s not writing news and fiction, she’s telling stories to her six-year-old.
Maria is a journalist and editor focusing on writing – her first love - after years in the film, TV and media industries worldwide. She loves the pace and variety of creating content for online audiences, while being a mother of two who inspire and tease her daily.
After a career in politics, Alys started writing to process the tsunami of emotions she experienced as a new mum. She was appointed parenting editor at Mamamia and now night editor for Kidspot. She believes that being a mum is both the best and worst job ever and that imperfections are to be embraced.
Lara’s experience extends from TV, radio and digital for the ABC, Channel Ten’s The Project and Broadsheet Melbourne. In her spare time, she’s a food writer (and consumer). Originally from Melbourne, brunch and coffee are always on her radar.
