This film is an investigation into the transformations that human relationships face when interacting in Virtual Worlds.
Love and sexuality are on an important factor in any human relationships. However, what is new in Virtual Worlds is the ability to exercise those relationships without any real risk, external censure or imposition from an internal "super-ego".
By means of my films and Second Life, I try to imagine how consciousness and the psyche of Man will evolve as a result of these new technologies.
To make this machinima, I was inspired by John Suler's book "Psychology of Cybersepace"

Tutsi
The Tutsi (/ˈtʊtsi/;Rwanda-Rundi pronunciation: [tūtsī]), or Abatutsi, are a population inhabiting the African Great Lakes region. Historically, they were often referred to as the Watutsi,Watusi,Wahuma or the Wahima. The Tutsi form a subgroup of the Banyarwanda and the Barundi peoples, who reside primarily in Rwanda and Burundi, but with significant populations also found in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania. They speak Rwanda-Rundi, a group of Bantu languages.
The Tutsi are the second largest population division among the three largest groups in Rwanda and Burundi; the other two being the Hutu (largest) and the Twa (smallest). Small numbers of Hema, Kiga and Furiiru people also live near the Tutsi in Rwanda. The Northern Tutsi that reside in Rwanda are called Ruguru (Banyaruguru), while southern Tutsi that live in Burundi are known as Hima, and the Tutsi that inhabit the Kivu plateau in the Congo go by Banyamulenge.
Origins and classification
The definitions of "Hutu" and "Tutsi" people may have changed through time and location. Social structures were not stable throughout Rwanda, even during colonial times under the Belgian rule. The Tutsi aristocracy or elite was distinguished from Tutsi commoners, and wealthy Hutu were often indistinguishable from upper-class Tutsi.

Second Life
Second Life is an online virtual world, developed by Linden Lab, based in San Francisco, and launched on June 23, 2003. By 2013 Second Life had approximately 1 million regular users, according to Linden Lab, which owns Second Life. Jury Prize (Cannes Film Festival)
The Jury Prize (French: Prix du Jury) is an award presented at the Cannes Film Festival, chosen by the Jury from the "official section" of movies at the festival. It is considered the third-most prestigious prize at the film festival, after the Palme d'Or and the Grand Prix.
History
From 1951 until 1966 the name Special Jury Prize was used for the second-most important award of the festival. In 1967 the second place was renamed "Grand Prize of the Jury", and the Special Jury Prize title was withdrawn. Then, in 1969, the Jury Prize was created separately from the Grand Prize, and both have been awarded yearly since. The Special Jury Prize reappeared twice in the 1990s, and one International Jury Prize was awarded in 1946.

This film is an investigation into the transformations that human relationships face when interacting in Virtual Worlds.
Love and sexuality are on an important factor in any human relationships. However, what is new in Virtual Worlds is the ability to exercise those relationships without any real risk, external censure or imposition from an internal "super-ego".
By means of my films and Second Life, I try to imagine how consciousness and the psyche of Man will evolve as a result of these new technologies.
To make this machinima, I was inspired by John Suler's book "Psychology of Cybersepace"
I wish to thank all the avatars appearing in this film. My sincere apologies to any avatar who appears but whom I have not credited. Please do not hesitate to identify yourself and I'll add your name below.

Who does not know of the myth of Narcissus?
The demi-god who from birth caused all to fall madly in love with him but who died tragically being in love only with his own image!
Less well-known is the prediction made by Tiresias, Nemesis' cursed intervention, the nymph Echo's love for Narcissus and the dramatic story of love and lose that follows.
It is a tale illustrating that death and revival are intertwined.
A mythological story retains its longevity because the truths it reveals are as relevant in contemporary times are they were in ancient times.

As impotent sleeping spectators we have stood by as multinational companies, bankers and traders have looted and pillaged the precious resources of our shared planet.
As a species and as individuals, we need to find the Wisdom and self-awareness to reflect upon who we are and what we can do to stop this tragic state of affairs.
In 2008 Iceland was dramatically made bankrupt by a series of selfish egocentric governmental and economic policies. However, in the last two years, Iceland has sought to bring those responsible for its downfall to justice. This has proven good for the country as a whole and is an effective form of cleansing. In this respect at least, Iceland should serve as an example to the rest of the Western world.

This machinima is a metaphorical tale, questioning relationships established between reality and virtuality through our avatars and the play on the double meaning of the word 'avatar' refering to its original Sanskrit meaning of a spiritual quest.
Ce film sous forme de conte métaphorique, est une interrogation sur les rapports qui s'établissent aujourd'hui entre la réalité et la virtualité par le truchement de nos avatars. C'est aussi un jeu sur le double sens du mot "avatar" qui nous renvoie à son origine sanskrite et à une recherche spirituelle.
Metaverse est un mot anglais, contraction de meta- univers. C'est un monde virtuel fictif décrit dans le roman Snow Crash (Le Samouraï virtuel) de Neal Stephenson. Ecris dans les années 1990.
Ce monde virtuel, créé artificiellement par un programme informatique, héberge une communauté d'utilisateurs présents sous forme d'avatars pouvant s'y déplacer, y interagir socialement et parfois économiquement. Ce cyberespace peut reproduire les lois physiques du monde réel telles que la gravité, le temps, le climat ou la géographie. Ou au contraire s'affranchir de ces limitations physiques.
Un roman visionnaire décrivant assez precisemment ce qui se passe aujourd'hui dans des mondes virtuels "online" tel que "Second Life" crées en 2003 par Linden Lab.
