Tom Pickett 'From The Heart'
Hi everyone. I'd like to share something very personal and very special with you all, some of my innermost thoughts and feelings. I hope it gives you an insight into my life and my world as we all travel down this exciting pathway called 'life.' I have worked as a land surveyor for the last 32 years enjoying every minute of it, but my passion and my love has always been Astronomy. Like you I guess, I just get lost in the stars! Back in June 2008 (when the economy crashed here in America) I lost my job. Since then I've been working odd jobs, just barely getting by and trying to keep my head above water. One night in September 2011 I was out on the front porch with my 5 inch refractor, just sweeping the sky, looking at whatever I could find through my 20mm window on the Universe. I glanced sideways and noticed this huge full moon rising above the horizon. Fantastic! I rushed to get my digital camera and decided to try a few shots. I got carried away, I was mesmerised. Throughout the night I must have taken over 50 images through my telescope before heading downstairs to download them on my computer. Quickly scanning through my collection I found one that was just spectacular. I just looked and looked and stared at that image for hours! The next morning I got up, downed a hurried breakfast and turned on my computer to look at my image of the moon again. What!! I took this? I was chuffed, it was beautiful. The image took me back to when I was 7 years old, looking through my first telescope. It opened up a whole new world for me and set me on a path that's taken me to where I am today, an adult, but still with that irrepressible 'little kid' sense of curiosity and wonderment. I was stoked at what I could see with such a small scope. I glimpsed the Universe, and I wanted more! A few days later I looked at the image of the moon again and a crazy thought crossed my mind...could I make a video of the solar system? Without hesitation I checked NASA's website and started looking at all the images of planets, moons and asteroids. Then it hit me, I could actually do this if I again found the right attitude from the same little boy that once challenged the Universe to give up its secrets with his 4.5 inch reflector. Putting the video together was a challenge to say the least. I was considering everything, thinking of this and thinking of that. I wanted it to be perfect. Overnight, my mind raced like it always does when you've got big plans. The next day I turned my computer on to view the video again, and hated it! I was devastated! All those hours of work, all that effort... and for what? Then I saw the problem, it was too cluttered. Excessive captioning, naming the planets, their sizes and the distance from the Sun was just too much. All my focus was on the text and not the beauty of the planets. So I went back and literally spent hours removing all the text and captioning. On review it suddenly came alive! This was what I was striving for - but it needed a music bed.
More hours pouring over countless music tracks I've heard over the years produced the haunting "New Sight" from Star Trek Insurrection by Jerry Goldsmith. It was perfect, I loved it! After tweaking the video to fit the mood of the music, I began reviewing it. I played it over and over, for hours, before telling myself the young 7 year old boy in me could at last get some sleep.
Before retiring I posted it on YouTube in the hope someone else might enjoy it. The next morning I got up to get some coffee and turned on YouTube to take a look. Wow! Am I seeing right? My video had over 2,000 views on it ...and over a hundred comments! Did I do this? I was in shock and overwhelmed, I just couldn't believe it. A few days later a teacher from South Korea sent me a text asking if she could share it with her students. I thought of the number of children in that class who were going to see it. My video! Folks, I broke down and cried that day. My dream and my passion for astronomy as a 7 year old boy was now coming alive in others. Since that moment I've received thousands upon thousands of emails from teachers, planetariums and others around the world thanking me for making the video and sharing it with them. Most of you may not know this but I have not made a single penny from this video, not one cent! I didn't want to, I just wanted to share it. Friends, I've gained so much joy and happiness knowing I have touched so many souls with my dream about science and astronomy, just like that 7 year old boy of so many years ago. It's spurned me on to do more so I'll be back for sure. I don't think it'll be too long to wait. Carl Sagan once said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." I know there is and that's what keeps me going. I hope my reach continues to exceed my grasp, and I hope too I can take you all along on my journey.

Solar System
The Solar System is the gravitationally bound system comprising the Sun and the objects that orbit it, either directly or indirectly. Of those objects that orbit the Sun directly, the largest eight are the planets, with the remainder being significantly smaller objects, such as dwarf planets and small Solar System bodies. Of the objects that orbit the Sun indirectly, the moons, two are larger than the smallest planet, Mercury.
The Solar System formed 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of a giant interstellar molecular cloud. The vast majority of the system's mass is in the Sun, with most of the remaining mass contained in Jupiter. The four smaller inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, are terrestrial planets, being primarily composed of rock and metal. The four outer planets are giant planets, being substantially more massive than the terrestrials. The two largest, Jupiter and Saturn, are gas giants, being composed mainly of hydrogen and helium; the two outermost planets, Uranus and Neptune, are ice giants, being composed mostly of substances with relatively high melting points compared with hydrogen and helium, called ices, such as water, ammonia and methane. All planets have almost circular orbits that lie within a nearly flat disc called the ecliptic.

The discography of Keke Palmer, an American R&B singer-songwriter, consists of one studio album, one extended play, three mixtapes and seven singles. In 2005, Palmer signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. Palmer released her debut album So Uncool on September 18, 2007. The album failed to chart on the US Billboard 200, but did chart at number 85 on the R&B chart. The album was preceded by the lead single "Keep It Movin'". In 2010, Palmer was signed by the Chairman of Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine, and began working on an album.
In January 2011, Palmer released her first mixtape Awaken. The mixtape was officially released on January 10, 2011, for downloads on mixtape-downloading websites. The first and only single released from the mixtape was "The One You Call". A music video was also released for the song. In July 2012, Palmer released the single "You Got Me" featuring Kevin McCall. The video for the single was released on July 11, 2012. Palmer released a self-titled mixtape Keke Palmer on October 1, 2012. It includes her new singles "You Got Me" & "Dance Alone" which have already been released. A system is a set of interacting or interdependent component parts forming a complex/intricate whole. Every system is delineated by its spatial and temporal boundaries, surrounded and influenced by its environment, described by its structure and purpose and expressed in its functioning.
The term system may also refer to a set of rules that governs structure and/or behavior. Alternatively, and usually in the context of complex social systems, the term is used to describe the set of rules that govern structure and/or behavior.
Etymology
The term "system" comes from the Latin word systēma, in turn from Greek σύστημα systēma: "whole compounded of several parts or members, system", literary "composition".
History
According to Marshall McLuhan,
"System" means "something to look at". You must have a very high visual gradient to have systematization. In philosophy, before Descartes, there was no "system". Plato had no "system". Aristotle had no "system".
In the 19th century the French physicist Nicolas Léonard Sadi Carnot, who studied thermodynamics, pioneered the development of the concept of a "system" in the natural sciences. In 1824 he studied the system which he called the working substance (typically a body of water vapor) in steam engines, in regards to the system's ability to do work when heat is applied to it. The working substance could be put in contact with either a boiler, a cold reservoir (a stream of cold water), or a piston (to which the working body could do work by pushing on it). In 1850, the German physicist Rudolf Clausius generalized this picture to include the concept of the surroundings and began to use the term "working body" when referring to the system.

Tom Pickett 'From The Heart' Hi everyone. I'd like to share something very personal and very special with you all, some of my innermost thoughts and feelings. I hope it gives you an insight into my life and my world as we all travel down this exciting pathway called 'life.' I have worked as a land surveyor for the last 32 years enjoying every minute of it, but my passion and my love has always been Astronomy. Like you I guess, I just get lost in the stars! Back in June 2008 (when the economy crashed here in America) I lost my job. Since then I've been working odd jobs, just barely getting by and trying to keep my head above water. One night in September 2011 I was out on the front porch with my 5 inch refractor, just sweeping the sky, looking at whatever I could find through my 20mm window on the Universe. I glanced sideways and noticed this huge full moon rising above the horizon. Fantastic! I rushed to get my digital camera and decided to try a few shots. I got carried away, I was mesmerised. Throughout the night I must have taken over 50 images through my telescope before heading downstairs to download them on my computer. Quickly scanning through my collection I found one that was just spectacular. I just looked and looked and stared at that image for hours! The next morning I got up, downed a hurried breakfast and turned on my computer to look at my image of the moon again. What!! I took this? I was chuffed, it was beautiful. The image took me back to when I was 7 years old, looking through my first telescope. It opened up a whole new world for me and set me on a path that's taken me to where I am today, an adult, but still with that irrepressible 'little kid' sense of curiosity and wonderment. I was stoked at what I could see with such a small scope. I glimpsed the Universe, and I wanted more! A few days later I looked at the image of the moon again and a crazy thought crossed my mind...could I make a video of the solar system? Without hesitation I checked NASA's website and started looking at all the images of planets, moons and asteroids. Then it hit me, I could actually do this if I again found the right attitude from the same little boy that once challenged the Universe to give up its secrets with his 4.5 inch reflector. Putting the video together was a challenge to say the least. I was considering everything, thinking of this and thinking of that. I wanted it to be perfect. Overnight, my mind raced like it always does when you've got big plans. The next day I turned my computer on to view the video again, and hated it! I was devastated! All those hours of work, all that effort... and for what? Then I saw the problem, it was too cluttered. Excessive captioning, naming the planets, their sizes and the distance from the Sun was just too much. All my focus was on the text and not the beauty of the planets. So I went back and literally spent hours removing all the text and captioning. On review it suddenly came alive! This was what I was striving for - but it needed a music bed. More hours pouring over countless music tracks I've heard over the years produced the haunting "New Sight" from Star Trek Insurrection by Jerry Goldsmith. It was perfect, I loved it! After tweaking the video to fit the mood of the music, I began reviewing it. I played it over and over, for hours, before telling myself the young 7 year old boy in me could at last get some sleep. Before retiring I posted it on YouTube in the hope someone else might enjoy it. The next morning I got up to get some coffee and turned on YouTube to take a look. Wow! Am I seeing right? My video had over 2,000 views on it ...and over a hundred comments! Did I do this? I was in shock and overwhelmed, I just couldn't believe it. A few days later a teacher from South Korea sent me a text asking if she could share it with her students. I thought of the number of children in that class who were going to see it. My video! Folks, I broke down and cried that day. My dream and my passion for astronomy as a 7 year old boy was now coming alive in others. Since that moment I've received thousands upon thousands of emails from teachers, planetariums and others around the world thanking me for making the video and sharing it with them. Most of you may not know this but I have not made a single penny from this video, not one cent! I didn't want to, I just wanted to share it. Friends, I've gained so much joy and happiness knowing I have touched so many souls with my dream about science and astronomy, just like that 7 year old boy of so many years ago. It's spurned me on to do more so I'll be back for sure. I don't think it'll be too long to wait. Carl Sagan once said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." I know there is and that's what keeps me going. I hope my reach continues to exceed my grasp, and I hope too I can take you all along on my journey. Have a good day and clear skies Tom Pickett -

Hi everyone. I'd like to share something very personal and very special with you all, some of my innermost thoughts and feelings. I hope it gives you an insight into my life and my world as we all travel down this exciting pathway called 'life.' I have worked as a land surveyor for the last 32 years enjoying every minute of it, but my passion and my love has always been Astronomy. Like you I guess, I just get lost in the stars! Back in June 2008 (when the economy crashed here in America) I lost my job. Since then I've been working odd jobs, just barely getting by and trying to keep my head above water. One night in September 2011 I was out on the front porch with my 5 inch refractor, just sweeping the sky, looking at whatever I could find through my 20mm window on the Universe. I glanced sideways and noticed this huge full moon rising above the horizon. Fantastic! I rushed to get my digital camera and decided to try a few shots. I got carried away, I was mesmerised. Throughout the night I must have taken over 50 images through my telescope before heading downstairs to download them on my computer. Quickly scanning through my collection I found one that was just spectacular. I just looked and looked and stared at that image for hours! The next morning I got up, downed a hurried breakfast and turned on my computer to look at my image of the moon again. What!! I took this? I was chuffed, it was beautiful. The image took me back to when I was 7 years old, looking through my first telescope. It opened up a whole new world for me and set me on a path that's taken me to where I am today, an adult, but still with that irrepressible 'little kid' sense of curiosity and wonderment. I was stoked at what I could see with such a small scope. I glimpsed the Universe, and I wanted more! A few days later I looked at the image of the moon again and a crazy thought crossed my mind...could I make a video of the solar system? Without hesitation I checked NASA's website and started looking at all the images of planets, moons and asteroids. Then it hit me, I could actually do this if I again found the right attitude from the same little boy that once challenged the Universe to give up its secrets with his 4.5 inch reflector. Putting the video together was a challenge to say the least. I was considering everything, thinking of this and thinking of that. I wanted it to be perfect. Overnight, my mind raced like it always does when you've got big plans. The next day I turned my computer on to view the video again, and hated it! I was devastated! All those hours of work, all that effort... and for what? Then I saw the problem, it was too cluttered. Excessive captioning, naming the planets, their sizes and the distance from the Sun was just too much. All my focus was on the text and not the beauty of the planets. So I went back and literally spent hours removing all the text and captioning. On review it suddenly came alive! This was what I was striving for - but it needed a music bed.
More hours pouring over countless music tracks I've heard over the years produced the haunting "New Sight" from Star Trek Insurrection by Jerry Goldsmith. It was perfect, I loved it! After tweaking the video to fit the mood of the music, I began reviewing it. I played it over and over, for hours, before telling myself the young 7 year old boy in me could at last get some sleep.
Before retiring I posted it on YouTube in the hope someone else might enjoy it. The next morning I got up to get some coffee and turned on YouTube to take a look. Wow! Am I seeing right? My video had over 2,000 views on it ...and over a hundred comments! Did I do this? I was in shock and overwhelmed, I just couldn't believe it. A few days later a teacher from South Korea sent me a text asking if she could share it with her students. I thought of the number of children in that class who were going to see it. My video! Folks, I broke down and cried that day. My dream and my passion for astronomy as a 7 year old boy was now coming alive in others. Since that moment I've received thousands upon thousands of emails from teachers, planetariums and others around the world thanking me for making the video and sharing it with them. Most of you may not know this but I have not made a single penny from this video, not one cent! I didn't want to, I just wanted to share it. Friends, I've gained so much joy and happiness knowing I have touched so many souls with my dream about science and astronomy, just like that 7 year old boy of so many years ago. It's spurned me on to do more so I'll be back for sure. I don't think it'll be too long to wait. Carl Sagan once said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." I know there is and that's what keeps me going. I hope my reach continues to exceed my grasp, and I hope too I can take you all along on my journey.

Hi everyone. I'd like to share something very personal and very special with you all, some of my innermost thoughts and feelings. I hope it gives you an insight into my life and my world as we all travel down this exciting pathway called 'life.' I have worked as a land surveyor for the last 32 years enjoying every minute of it, but my passion and my love has always been Astronomy. Like you I guess, I just get lost in the stars! Back in June 2008 (when the economy crashed here in America) I lost my job. Since then I've been working odd jobs, just barely getting by and trying to keep my head above water. One night in September 2011 I was out on the front porch with my 5 inch refractor, just sweeping the sky, looking at whatever I could find through my 20mm window on the Universe. I glanced sideways and noticed this huge full moon rising above the horizon. Fantastic! I rushed to get my digital camera and decided to try a few shots. I got carried away, I was mesmerised. Throughout the night I must have taken over 50 images through my telescope before heading downstairs to download them on my computer. Quickly scanning through my collection I found one that was just spectacular. I just looked and looked and stared at that image for hours! The next morning I got up, downed a hurried breakfast and turned on my computer to look at my image of the moon again. What!! I took this? I was chuffed, it was beautiful. The image took me back to when I was 7 years old, looking through my first telescope. It opened up a whole new world for me and set me on a path that's taken me to where I am today, an adult, but still with that irrepressible 'little kid' sense of curiosity and wonderment. I was stoked at what I could see with such a small scope. I glimpsed the Universe, and I wanted more! A few days later I looked at the image of the moon again and a crazy thought crossed my mind...could I make a video of the solar system? Without hesitation I checked NASA's website and started looking at all the images of planets, moons and asteroids. Then it hit me, I could actually do this if I again found the right attitude from the same little boy that once challenged the Universe to give up its secrets with his 4.5 inch reflector. Putting the video together was a challenge to say the least. I was considering everything, thinking of this and thinking of that. I wanted it to be perfect. Overnight, my mind raced like it always does when you've got big plans. The next day I turned my computer on to view the video again, and hated it! I was devastated! All those hours of work, all that effort... and for what? Then I saw the problem, it was too cluttered. Excessive captioning, naming the planets, their sizes and the distance from the Sun was just too much. All my focus was on the text and not the beauty of the planets. So I went back and literally spent hours removing all the text and captioning. On review it suddenly came alive! This was what I was striving for - but it needed a music bed.
More hours pouring over countless music tracks I've heard over the years produced the haunting "New Sight" from Star Trek Insurrection by Jerry Goldsmith. It was perfect, I loved it! After tweaking the video to fit the mood of the music, I began reviewing it. I played it over and over, for hours, before telling myself the young 7 year old boy in me could at last get some sleep.
Before retiring I posted it on YouTube in the hope someone else might enjoy it. The next morning I got up to get some coffee and turned on YouTube to take a look. Wow! Am I seeing right? My video had over 2,000 views on it ...and over a hundred comments! Did I do this? I was in shock and overwhelmed, I just couldn't believe it. A few days later a teacher from South Korea sent me a text asking if she could share it with her students. I thought of the number of children in that class who were going to see it. My video! Folks, I broke down and cried that day. My dream and my passion for astronomy as a 7 year old boy was now coming alive in others. Since that moment I've received thousands upon thousands of emails from teachers, planetariums and others around the world thanking me for making the video and sharing it with them. Most of you may not know this but I have not made a single penny from this video, not one cent! I didn't want to, I just wanted to share it. Friends, I've gained so much joy and happiness knowing I have touched so many souls with my dream about science and astronomy, just like that 7 year old boy of so many years ago. It's spurned me on to do more so I'll be back for sure. I don't think it'll be too long to wait. Carl Sagan once said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." I know there is and that's what keeps me going. I hope my reach continues to exceed my grasp, and I hope too I can take you all along on my journey.

One of eight new planets spied in distant solar systems has usurped the title of "most Earth-like alien world", astronomers have said.
All eight were picked out by Nasa's Kepler space telescope, taking its tally of such "exoplanets" past 1,000.
But only three sit safely within the "habitable zone" of their host star - and one in particular is rocky, like Earth, as well as only slightly warmer.
The find was revealed at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society.
Red sky
The three potentially habitable planets join Kepler's "hall of fame", which now boasts eight fascinating planetary prospects.
And researchers say the most Earth-like of the new arrivals, known as Kepler 438b, is probably even more similar to our home than Kepler 186f - which previously looked to be our most likely twin.
At 12% larger than Earth, the new claimant is bigger than 186f but it is closer to our temperature, probably receiving just 40% more heat from its sun than we do from ours.
So if we could stand on the surface of 438b it may well be warmer than here, according to Dr Doug Caldwell from the Seti (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) Institute in California.
"And it's around a cooler [red dwarf] star... so your sky would look redder than ours does to us," Dr Caldwell said.
That first-person encounter, however, is unlikely - both because the planet is 475 light-years away and because we still have essentially no idea what it's made of.
Images from the Kepler telescope, which trails behind the Earth and peers far into the distance as we orbit our own sun, are used to identify far-off planets by observing "transits".
This refers to the dimming of a star's light when a planet passes in front of it. A large team of researchers then uses additional data from Earth-bound telescopes to further explore these unfamiliar solar systems.
They try to calculate how big the planets are, and how closely they orbit their host stars.
Not everything that causes such a dimming eventually turns out to be a planet, however.
At the same time as the eight confirmed new exoplanets were announced by a 26-strong team spanning Nasa and multiple US institutions, the Kepler mission's own scientists released another tranche of more than 500 "candidate" planets.
"With further observation, some of these candidates may turn out not to be planets," said Kepler science officer, Fergal Mullally.
"Or as we understand their properties better, they may move around in, or even outside, the habitable zone."
'Star Trek' scenario
Even once scientists have anointed a candidate as a confirmed exoplanet, the question of whether or not it is "Earth-like" is a fraught one, with fuzzy boundaries.
The size of the habitable, or "Goldilocks" zone, where a planet is far enough from its sun to hold water but not so distant that it freezes, depends on how confident scientists want to be with their guess-work.
According to Dr Cardwell, just three of the eight new exoplanets can be confidently placed in that zone - and only two of those are probably rocky like the Earth.
More detailed description is very difficult.
"From the Kepler measurements and the other measurements we made, we don't know if these planets have oceans with fish and continents with trees," Dr Caldwell told BBC News.
"All we know is their size and the energy they're receiving from their star.
"So we can say: Well, they're of a size that they're likely to be rocky, and the energy they're getting is comparable to what the Earth is getting.
"As we fill in these gaps in our solar system that we don't have, we learn more about what it means to be Earth-like, in some sense."
Speaking at a related event at the conference, Prof Debra Fischer from Yale University said she remembered a time before the first exoplanet was discovered, more than two decades ago.
"I remember astronomers before that point being very worried," she said.
"We really had to step back and say: Maybe the Star Trek picture is wrong. That filled me with despair."
Prof Fischer said that sensitive telescopes like Kepler had ushered in an era of "amazing and impressive work".
"We're talking about a planet - and we can only see its star with a powerful telescope.
"And we can draw graphs and sketch its composition and have serious scientific discussions. This is incredible."
