Fiji (i/ˈfiːdʒiː/ FEE-jee Fijian: Viti; Fiji Hindi: फ़िजी), officially the Republic of Fiji (Fijian: Matanitu Tugalala o Viti;Fiji Hindi: रिपब्लिक ऑफ फीजीFiji Hindi: Ripablik ăph Phījī), is an island country in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean about 1,100 nautical miles (2,000 km; 1,300 mi) northeast of New Zealand's North Island. Its closest neighbours are Vanuatu to the west, New Caledonia to the southwest, New Zealand's Kermadec Islands to the southeast, Tonga to the east, the Samoas and France's Wallis and Futuna to the northeast, and Tuvalu to the north.
Fiji is an archipelago of more than 332 islands, of which 110 are permanently inhabited, and more than 500 islets, amounting to a total land area of about 18,300 square kilometres (7,100 sq mi). The farthest island is Ono-i-Lau. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population of almost 860,000. The capital and largest city, Suva, is on Viti Levu. About three-quarters of Fijians live on Viti Levu's coasts, either in Suva or in smaller urban centres like Nadi (tourism) or Lautoka (sugar cane industry). Viti Levu's interior is sparsely inhabited due to its terrain.

At the very beginning of my travel gap year, I had the opportunity to fly with Fiji Airways from Los Angeles to Nadi, the capital of Fiji. Because of the frequent flyer miles I collected from my Alaska Airlines credit card, I was able to fly in business class for the 11 hour flight on an Airbus A330. It sure beat the economy seats in about every way. The food was great, comfortable seats, free alcohol, priority boarding. It was hard going back to economy seating after experiencing this. Business class with Fiji Airways is an awesome way to cross the Pacific Ocean. Bula! To see more content like this, hit the Subscribe button. To honor its cultural heritage, Fiji Airways has announced a new refreshed brand at a celebratory launch event at Los Angeles International Airport. American travelers will now see direct flights from Los Angeles to Fiji almost double by the end of the year, and they will travel in new, state-of-the-art A330s. The event retired its "Air Pacific" brand to align more closely with what makes Fiji unique, its people. With increased frequency of flights and new aircrafts, it will be even easier for Americans to get to the 333 islands of Fiji, home to happiness and rich culture. "We are honored to be Fiji's flying ambassador to the world—now the Fijian experience starts the moment you enter the plane," said Aubrey Swift, Fiji Airways Acting CEO. Fiji Airways flight experience, onboard the Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Nadi to Singapore. This long-haul red-eye flight departs Nadi at 11pm and arrives 10 hours and 18 minutes later in Singapore. On this flight, drinks are served before the hot meal service. Breakfast commences about 2.5 hours prior to landing. Throughout the flight, the friendly cabin crew offer Fiji Natural Artesian Water at regular intervals. Entertainment options are good as well, and I also like the flight tracking map feature. It has been a comfortable journey with Fiji Airways. Vinaka vakelevu, Fiji Airways. Thank you for watching this Fiji Airways flight experience on FlightTravels. Remember to subscribe! From the recent encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI to the speeches of Barack Obama, hope has emerged as a key concept in the political theology of the present moment. Dutch navigator Abel Tasman was the first European to encounter the Maori. Four members of his crew were killed in a bloody encounter in 1642. In 1769 British explorer James Cook established friendly relations with some Maori. By 1800, visits by European ships were relatively frequent. At this time, war and disease took their toll on the Maori till eventually their population dropped to about 100,000. In 1840 representatives of Britain and Maori chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi. This treaty established British rule, granted the Maori British citizenship, and recognized Maori land rights. Today many of the treaty's provisions are disputed and there ahs been and is an effort from the New Zealand Government to recompense Maori for some land that was illegally confiscated. Ma...

Earlier this summer I spent three and a half weeks in Fiji documenting a medical research project for USC. The research centered around the alarming rate of diabetes within the Fijian Islands, specifically the Mamanuca Islands in Northern Fiji. Currently 30% of the Fijian population will be or has been diagnosed with diabetes. This surge in diabetes stems from an amalgamation of reasons, including agricultural changes throughout the country, a lack of proper medical resources, and globalization. The majority of my trip consisted of documenting one on one interviews with Fijian children discussing their diets, understanding of health, and experiences with family members that have been diagnosed with diabetes. Enjoy this short film that condenses my experience visiting the Fijian villages...

Worldwide in excess of one billion people do not have an uncontaminated source of clean drinking water, this is in excess of 1/6 of the world population, yet we, as Americans, spend billions of dollars yearly for the convenience of drinking from a plastic bottle instead of a water tap. Shame on us. 1.5 million tons of plastic are used to bottle water every y...

LEADIN With its white sand beaches, tropical climate and relaxed pace, Fiji has rightfully earned a reputation as a South Pacific paradise. But while most tourist activities come with a price tag, there are plenty of things for adventurous travellers to do and see for free. STORYLINE: Think Fiji and the image that comes to mind is sun, sea and long white sandy beaches, but it's the friendliness of the people that makes travelling in these islands a real delight. Tourists quickly learn the ubiquitous word "bula" (pronounced boolah) which means hello and is usually accompanied with a broad smile. And while on average a hotel room will cost between $100 and $400 per night there are also plenty of interesting sights on the island that come for free. At the local produce markets, y...

Helllllllo Friends to travel video #1. Here is a documentation of my week long layover in Fiji. All Footage is taken on the Island of Viti Levu near Nandi. As you may have expected Fiji is..... nice, superb really, absoluty top notch. If you get the opportunity to visit you really should grab a coco nut, glue on your boardshorts and get ready to relax. To really do Fiji right you will want to hop around to some of the more remote northern Islands. This of course comes with a higher pricetag than the poor mans Fiji experience that I chose. My experience was indeed cheap but not one I would change for the world. I stayed at the Bamboo Hostel, about a 5-10 drive from the Nandi airport. After a free airport shuttle that the hostel provided I arrived to possibly the friendliest staff...

Fiji is an archipelago of more than 330 islands, of which 110 are permanently inhabited, and more than 500 islets, amounting to a total land area of about 18,300 square kilometers. The farthest island is Ono-i-Lau. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population of almost 860,000. The capital, Suva on Viti Levu, serves as Fiji's principal cruise port. About three-quarters of Fijians live on Viti Levu's coasts, either in Suva or in smaller urban centers like Nadi (tourism)] or Lautoka (sugar cane industry). Viti Levu's interior is sparsely inhabited due to its terrain.

https://www.expedia.com/Fiji.d6023598.Destination-Travel-Guides The locals in Fiji have a saying, “Bulla,” which means “life” and “good health.” You’ll hear it used frequently as a greeting when you arrive at the 330-strong islands that comprise this archipelago. You may even find yourself saying it before long! Any Fiji tour will highlight its magnificent, unspoiled waters and lush landscapes. Go snorkeling, swimming, diving, and sailing on turquoise waters. If you’d rather stay on dry land, you can zipline through rainforests or explore the windy plains of the highland area. Travel to the interior and learn about traditional Fijian culture, or visit the capital city of Suva and wander through its colonial buildings, bazaars, and the quiet harbor. The island nation Fiji lays in the South Pacific Ocean. Fiji is one of the friendliest places on Earth. Within moments of arriving, you'll hear the Fijian greeting "Bulla", and before long, you'll be calling it out too! The main island Vitu Levu is home to 85 percent of Fiji's population. Fiji's port capital, Suva, is a city filled with colonial architecture and bustling markets. Explore the Coral Coast, a 50-mile of stretch of beaches fringed by a coral reef that literally touches the shoreline. Inland, take in the scents of the Fiji Spice Gardens, zip-line through forests, or take a highlands adventure tour. To explore Fiji's smaller islands, head to Port Denarau, the gateway to the Mamanuca and Yasawa island groups. Choose from romantic 5-star hideaways, to family-friendly resorts...

It's hard to explain
The hardships and pain
That true lovers must endure
That's for sure
I have my regrets
But much more than that
This special love we must secure
More and more
There's no better feelin'
Than when I rise up to see the morning sun
And watch the sunrise in you eyes
You're like the summer breeze
When I'm going through my winter time
So baby take this love of mine
'Cause anything you want, girl
I will give it to you
Anything you need, girl
My heart will be so true
Anything you want, girl
I will give it to you
Anything you need, girl
My heart will always be true to you
They say once you're bit, you're twice as shy
I have no reason to ask you why, why oh why
We must understand the ultimate plan
Is that we live a happy life
In the by and by
There's no better feelin'
Than when I rise up to see the morning sun
And watch the sunrise in you eyes
You're like the summer breeze
That comes to me in the winter time
So honey, I hope you realize
'Cause anything you want, girl
I will give it to you
Anything you need, girl
My heart will always be true
Anything you want, girl
I will surely give it to you
Anything you need, girl
