Italy (i/ˈɪtəli/; Italian: Italia [iˈtaːlja]), officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Italiana), is a unitary parliamentary republic in Europe. Italy covers an area of 301,338 km2 (116,347 sq mi) and has a largely Mediterranean and temperate climate; due to its shape, it is often referred to in Italy as lo Stivale (the Boot). With 61 million inhabitants, it is the 4th most populous EU member state. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy shares open land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and Vatican City.
Since ancient times, Greeks, Etruscans and Celts have inhabited the south, centre and north of the Italian Peninsula respectively. Rome ultimately emerged as the dominant power, conquering much of the ancient world and becoming the leading cultural, political, and religious centre of Western civilisation. The legacy of the Roman Empire is widespread and can be observed in the global distribution of civilian law, Republican governments, Christianity and the latin script.

Paolo dashes to the hospital but the doctor doesn't want to tell him anything because Paolo isn't a "real" relative. Luca dies. Paolo starts walking in the streets of the town, where his loneliness will be ever misunderstood. A barman tries to comfort him supposing he was discharged by his girlfriend. Luca's mother orders Paolo to leave the house. A guy takes Paolo to him's, looking for a partner in the night. Paolo runs away from everybody, also from his friend Francesca: she says she is understanding but she can't. While the dawn is coming, Paolo reads about the murders on the newspapers, and realizes that what happened was reality.

For the past 4 and a bit months I have been travelling Europe. Armed with only my Sony A7s and the Canon 24-105, I set out to capture a snippet of each country and complete a video showing what I saw along the way. This is the first in a series of short videos and explores Italy, in particular: Rome, Florence and Venice. This footage was captured over 3 separate days with filming time desperately limited. Capture: Sony A7s + Canon 24-105mm f/4L (XAVC S, 25fps, 1080p) Edit: Adobe Premiere Pro CC Song: Flume - Holdin On (Kaytranada Edit)
Venice is becoming one of the most visited cities in the world. Its few remaining habitants struggle everyday with large crowds of tourists, brought by massive transatlantics that continuously strike the city. In this short film I tried to avoid this overwhelming atmosphere and decided to go for a more subtle, quiet style that brought to live the original beauty of the city of canals. Filmed on the Sony a7s with a Canon 24-105 lens. Music by Matt LL - Pokhara Graded with Impulz LUTS and Filmconvert.

Former first lady Michelle Obama reared her ugly head in Italy in an attempt to upstage Melania Trump, who was accompanying her husband on their first international trip. The attempt backfired, and Michelle was panned by the Italian media. The Obamas touched down at a Tuscan military base last Friday, but they kept a low profile until the presidential family arrived on Tuesday to meet with Pope Francis. Sweden is set to deport 80,000 migrants, or immigrants, who have applied for VISAS that have been rejected. This number is a little more or less than half of the total number of people that have been taken in recently, overall. It's also a number that makes Sweden the highest per-capita in accepting refugees from Muslim countries in recent times. This en masse importation of "refugees" is not without consequence. From the beginning of their humanitarian efforts to accept war refugees, they have been inundated with many people who wish to simply leech off of the state and cause harm to the native people. There has been a skyrocket in the amount of reported rapes. Petty theft, assault, general discontent and a lack of social cohesion is happening. Many common citizens feel like they a...
Most of the millions of overwhelmingly male migrants who have come to Europe in the past two years are not refugees fleeing war zones. How to promote fiction on a factual channel like Current Italy? This was one of the most delicate and complex promotional operation in Current History. We decided to show it from our angle: the fiction and mini-series we choose, are to be taken as another way to see the world. You don't just rely on Information. Information, Journalism, are not enough, because they put a filter, a distance between you, the viewer, and the ral core of a fact. We show you another way to approach reality: by living it, like you are here, and no news reports can do it. Only fiction. So, also from a creative point of view, the promo was meant to be evocative, pulsing, storytelling rather than content-providing. Fiction liberates you, so you can see the world. That's the brilliant paradox and provocation of the ...
Our second film in the product series is about leather. Our hero, our best. Further product development in this area lead us now to source the highest quality leather, from one of the oldest family run traditional tannery’s in southern Italy. All our current collection is Aniline leather. This is a type of leather dyed exclusively with soluble dyes without covering the surface with a topcoat paint or insoluble pigments. The resulting product retains the hide's natural surface with the ‘grain’ leaving visible pores, marks & character. The best leather we can source to offer, value craft and style. Much more exciting news to come from Blanco leather. Wear your second Skin now…. Blanco.
Hearing about the EU's plan to ban operation Mare Nostrum, Ben Falk and John McCarthy travelled to Italy last year to try and meet some of the people making the crossing from North Africa. They wanted to get their stories, their true motivation for making such a perilous journey and try to gauge what effect the end of search and rescue operations might have. They have recently finished this small documentary of the footage they came back with and interviews with some key people working in the field of migration. (WARNING: Contains graphic scenes) With the current tragic news of more drownings and EU policy makers meeting to discuss the situation we thought it important to get, in any way possible, their voices and stories into the discussion. So we're making this public today.

Max Civili Press TV, Rome The latest study by CGIA, an association of artisans and small businesses, warns that about 166,000 businesses operating in the retail and artisan sectors shut down in Italy in 2014.The study shows that over 130,000 small businesses opened in the same period, translating into a negative balance of more than 34,000 and about 93,000 jobs lost. According to the study by CGIA Association, small businesses and artisan workshops are closing down in big numbers for a series of reasons including a drop in sales, recent tax increases and strong competition from supermarkets and discount stores. Italy has put forward the Neapolitan pizza as a candidate for inclusion in UNESCO’S cultural heritage list for next year. It voted unanimously to protect the Neapolitan pizza as part of the country’s cultural and gastronomic tradition, the national commission for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) said in a statement. If UNESCO accepts the bid, it will win a place on the world body’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as The Traditional Art of Neapolitan Pizza Makers. Traditional Neapolitan Pizza has a relatively thin crust — with the exception of the rim, which bloats like a tiny bicycle tyre when baked. It is religiously made in a wood-burning brick oven and has two classic versions: Marinara (tomato, garlic, oregano and oil) and the m...

Examining themes of fashion and consumption, we will present durational performances and installation works in this former furniture store's windows. Questions regarding the relationship of art and commerce today are myriad, and while there are no simple answers, most observers agree that there are many troubling implications of the influences of speculation, branding and celebrity on the current climate. Giving away the aesthetic experience through such a temporary event is a return to earlier, more idealistic times, yet placing the work within a shopping district anchors it to the realistic present. We imagine this to be an exciting event which will attract art audiences, as well as provide an unusual experience to passers-by. Jordan Biren and Corrina Peipon present a tableau/performan...

The national health care system aims to improve the health and lives of citizens through care activities, education and prevention. Italy has a publically owned health system, offering a high level of training for people involved in medical, nursing and research fields. These data emerges in comparison with other countries of the European Union. The system’s professionalism is reflected in the quality of the infrastructure and services offered but as we were browsing thorough the data we had the impression that the health system was revealing geographical differences. So our research was born out of questions like these: are we dealing with a national health care system or are we dealing with a regional or local health care systems? Why these differences? attempts to describe the economi...

I was hired by the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform -EMSP- to coordinate a group of photographers to achieve a broad panorama of what is life like if you have MS in Europe. According to the Eurobarometer, there are substantial differences in terms of access to diagnosis, treatment, drugs, and general empowerment. Walter Astrada, Lurdes R. Basolí, Max Braun, Fernando Moleres and myself, treveled to 12 countries, and shot about 40 people in their context. We did dozens of interviews among people with MS and their relatives, friends, carers, and specialists. The UNDER PRESSURE project has its own dedicated site, where still photos, videos and a lot of useful information can be viewed, and more is about to be added in the coming months. The context we are working within is the relationship between poverty and food. The Calvert-Henderson Quality of Life Indicator for Health* focuses on three basic questions: "Who gets a chance at life?", "How long will that life last?" and "How healthy will that life be?” Instead of analyzing the extreme cases of food poverty like starvation, we looked towards a notion that is commonly accepted. More money means better food. You are quite familiar with the large supermarket chains. As a consumer have you ever tried to understand the differences between the vegetables you might find in the street market versus the megastores? What are you really paying for? Simply potatoes or potatoes plus something else? There a way to buy only what you need? This vido hopes to provide the answers to som...

Well what can we say, Richard (Aurora Wedding Films) and I had an amazing time capturing David and Laura’s wedding at this 13th century Castle located in the heart of Malcesine, on the edge of Lake Garda, Italy. We arrived a couple of days before the wedding and immediately we were in love with the town and we immediately got some aerial footage of the fantastic lakeside town. The day prior to their wedding we headed up to the top of the mountain using the towns cable car, with Phil (Lens Monkey), as David and Laura did their pre-wedding shoot. It was very “Sound of Music” up there. Finally the day had arrived. Richard and I headed over to the salon and captured a little bit of Laura and her bridesmaids getting ready. I then managed to capture David with his best man as they headed to me...
Wilhelm von Gloeden (Mecklenburg, Northern Germany, 1856 - Taormina, Italy 1931. In 1878 he went to Italy, hoping to cure his lung problem. He settled in Taormina, a small seaside town in Sicily, which he was to call his 'heaven on earth'. There he regained his health, quite likely also as a result of the erotic fulfillment he found. From the early 1880s on, he specialized in photographs of naked boys in bucolic settings, becoming a pioneer of open air photography. Gloeden's talent in getting his models to pose gracefully when composing scenes, as well as the use of special filters and tints to enhance the effect of the pictures, added to the quality of his achievements. Thematically similar works by contemporaries, like his cousin Wilhelm von Plüschow, who lived in Rome, and his sometime...

Watch highlights of the match between Italy and Uruguay from the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic.
In 2002, Korea and Japan were given the chance to host the FIFA World Cup. What was supposed to be a beautiful sporting event that consisted of flying colors from a variety of nations turned into an infamous plot to derail the hopes and dreams of the nations cheated. During the tournament, South Korea defeated giants Italy and Spain through dirty tactics consisting of playing rough football and having advantages from the referees (No cards given, no fouls given, no suspensions, cards and fouls given to the opposing team, goals disallowed for the opposing team, offside calls). Here is my highlight reel of what occurred during those infamous days. Disgrace of a sport. Music: 1. Opening Music: Aegukga - South Korean National Anthem 2. Rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon is the Italian city of Venice, a city like no other. Begin your visit in the central district of San Marco, and walk upon one of the world’s great squares, St Mark’s Square. The square is surrounded by some of the city’s finest jewels such as St Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile and Doge’s Palace. Just outside stand the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro. As legend has it, Rome, Italy, was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, in 700 B.C. The former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration. No Rome tour is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Get in touch with your inner gladiator and stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman. Continue your Rome sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, design...

Around six hundred years ago, Tuscany changed the world forever when economic, cultural and political forces collided, sparking the Renaissance. It was a new way of th...

Toronto is Canada's largest and North America's fourth-largest city. Its multi-cultural population is spread out over the Megacity, but neighborhoods such as China Town, Greektown and Little Italy retain some of their original character. A typical "Hogtown" treat is the Peameal sandwich, available at the Saint Lawrence Market in the Old Town. The city's landmark CN Tower stands in stark contrast to another local icon: The castle-like Casa Loma. Some other famous architectural feats are the Royal Ontario Museum and the Gehry-designed Art Gallery of Ontario. Kensington Markets is an art-loving, 70s-inspired neighborhood full of shops. Upscale fashion stores surround Dundas Square, the downtown end of Yonge Street. During colder months, the city's huge underground mall, the PATH, offers hou...

Fascism in Italy Fascism in Italy Fascism in Italy Fascism in Italy
So there we were in the heart
Where everything that we know got its start
Then it all fell apart
Well I guess that's what you get
When you spread yourself too thin
But we had bigger fish to fry
Like findin' a place to sleep at night
I'd bought a slice of pizza
Just to try and kill some time
And for a minute everything was fine
We had a number in our notebook
But it was way too late to call
It was well after midnight
When our train passed through the city walls
We didn't know this girl at all
So we got out our travel book
To read about the neighborhood
Said it wasn't very good
But it felt alright to me
All I wanted to do was go to sleep
So we walked around the corner
And we found a cheap motel
We knew we couldn't afford it
But we said, "Oh well"
When you've been on the train all day
You're in a big city in a new country
You're real tired and it's late
Sometimes it's better just to pay
That's the way it goes
Sometimes you know
It'd be okay
And after all we were in Rome
Well it had been a long time
Since we had slept inside
We woke up late the next day
And the sun was shining bright
We paid our bill, we cried, we went outside
They got their bread and circus
And I guess so do we
But they got theirs for free
I think that we're gettin' ripped off
We must destroy all empires at any cost
When you're standin' in a temple
Of a long-gone God it seems so simple
Everybody dies, no matter who you are
From far enough away our sun is just another star
And the statue of Moses that we saw
Had horns on his head and was eight feet tall
Maybe that was the case,
No it's not our place to say
Maybe some things just don't translate
We called up this girl
Who had ordered a CD
She was the first from Italy
When we asked for hospitality
She said we could stay at her parents' place
They were so sweet to us
It was so nice to meet a punk
She took good care of you and me
She bought us soy ice cream
Her mom cooked dinner every night
It was so hard for us to leave
And the stray dogs of Pompey
Were our guides that day
They became our friends,
We were a lot like them
They taught us many things
And all they wanted was some food for their pay
Then we went to the coast
Where the roads are wound so close
And the buses bounce from side-to-side
We thought that we might die
We couldn't find a place to sleep at all that night
The city filled with scooters
Held so many mysteries
I saw the weirdest thing there
That I think I'll ever see
It was a pizza topped with octopus,
A whole one on each slice
But I got my dinner there
It was a pizza topped with fries
And Italy was nice
Made us feel right at home
Our money's in the fountain
