Moab (/ˈmoʊæb/; Moabite: 𐤌𐤀𐤁 mʾb; Arabic مؤاب muʾāb; Hebrew: מוֹאָב, Modern mo'av, Tiberian mōʾāḇ ; "seed of father"; Greek Μωάβ Mōáb; Assyrian Mu'aba, Ma'ba, Ma'ab; Egyptian Mu'ab) is the historical name for a mountainous strip of land in Jordan. The land lies alongside much of the eastern shore of the Dead Sea. The existence of the Kingdom of Moab is attested to by numerous archaeological findings, most notably the Mesha Stele, which describes the Moabite victory over an unnamed son of King Omri of Israel. The Moabite capital was Dibon. According to the Hebrew Bible, Moab was often in conflict with its Israelite neighbours to the west.
The Moabites likely settled in the Transjordanian highlands. Whether they were among the nations referred to in the Ancient Egyptian language as Shutu or Shasu is a matter of some debate among scholars.
Despite a scarcity of archaeological evidence, the existence of Moab prior to the rise of the Israelite state has been deduced from a colossal statue erected at Luxor by Pharaoh Ramesses II, in the 13th century BCE, which lists Mu'ab among a series of nations conquered during a campaign.
Moab is a city in Grand County, in eastern Utah, in the western United States. The population was 5,046 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat and largest city in Grand County. Moab attracts a large number of tourists every year, mostly visitors to the nearby Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The town is a popular base for mountain bikers who ride the extensive network of trails including Slickrock Trail, and off-roaders who come for the annual Moab Jeep Safari.
The Biblical name Moab refers to an area of land located on the eastern side of the Jordan River. Some historians believe the city in Utah came to use this name because of William Pierce, the first postmaster, believing that the biblical Moab and this part of Utah were both "the far country". However, others believe the name has Paiute origins, referring to the word "moapa" meaning mosquito. Some of the area's early residents attempted to change the city's name because in the Christian Bible, Moabites are demeaned as incestuous and idolatrous. One petition in 1890 had 59 signatures and requested a name change to Vina. Another effort attempted to change the name to Uvadalia. Both attempts failed.
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.

Although the GBU-43 (MOAB) is officially called the Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, it picked up the nickname Mother of all Bombs due to its abbreviation and its giant size. Arguably one of the top mountain bike trails on the planet. Linking up several Moab favourites, this trail spans almost 30 miles and has a cumulative descent of over 8,000 feet. The beauty of this ride is not just the sheer scale of it - but its diversity. Starting in high alpine forest at Burro Pass, the ride transitions to aspens, high desert and finishes off plummeting down to the Colorado River on exposed singletrack. The type of riding if vastly diverse as well: from slow, steep and technical rocky singletrack to wide open high speed sections and everything in between. My first time doing this ride could only be described as 'complete sensory overload' Riders: Chad G, Steve Cooke, Tom Bishop, Adam Simpson and myself. Registration is now open for our Timelapse Moab 2016 Workshops http://www.TimelapseMoab.com This breathtaking time-lapse film was captured under the dark skies of Moab, Utah. What makes this film different is that it was captured by photographers new to time-lapses, attending a time-lapse workshop. The group had instruction over a 4-day period and were also given access to motion control gear. This film is the result of their work after just a day or two of instruction. To round out the film a couple of my clips are included as well. Two days before the start of the workshop the Government closed the National Parks as part of the Government shutdown. As a result, the group was led to other fantastic locations, which this film showcases. The true beauty of the area around Moab, Ut...
This is a video love letter to Moab, Utah and surrounding area to show my appreciation for how much I love the beauty of her landscapes and the dark skies above. I first visited Moab on a cross country trip with my parents in 1977. I have to admit that back then I had no idea where we were when we were driving by these red rock formations. However, in 1994 I rediscovered Moab and instantly fell in love with this incredible small town, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. I knew I had been there before, and it just felt like home to me. I feel privileged to feel at home in a place as vast and beautiful as Moab. It has been 37 years since my parents first took the family to Arches and Canyonlands, but since rediscovering it as an adult I have been back there 7 times, 5 in the last 3 years, ...

I used up your compassion, so I come to make a trade
You can ?leave/hate? me but just love me in return
And if I know where to find you, I'll stay out of your way
I won't come beg to borrow all the happiness you earned
I'll just slide back down to the bottom
While you make your place in the hills
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Washed under the black tar, gone beneath my wheels
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
¡Claro qué sí!
They say the sun won't burn forever but that's a science to exact
I can prove it, watch, we're crossing the state line
See those headlights coming towards us? That's someone going back
To a town they said they'd never, yeah, they swore it on their life
But you can't break out of a circle
That you never knew you were in
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Washed under the black tar, gone beneath my wheels
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Some will spend their precious time
Trying to decorate their lives
Taking measurements for some new look they want
So from one to ten, ten's exactly what I am
Zero being everything I'm not
Tell me what you like
Is it less than five
Is it less than five
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
When I make it to Moab I'll get my canteen filled
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Washed under the black tar, gone beneath my wheels
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
