RENO, NV - The head of the Reno airport wants to call and apologize to a Florida man who faced obscenities and ethnic slurs by another passenger Thursday because he spoke Spanish to his mother on the telephone while waiting for a flight.
Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority President Marily Mora also wants to ask Hector Torres if he wants to file criminal charges against the airport passenger called Mike, who appears to strike Torres two or three times in an incident Torres captured on video.
But Torres brushed off any suggestion of an apology by the Reno-Tahoe International Airport..
“The Reno airport does not owe me an apology,” Torres said in a telephone interview as he prepared to fly back to Reno Sunday. “This has no reflection on them and their staff. Reno is a fantastic town. I’ve been treated like a king by each and every person I’ve encountered, except that one person.
“The only thing I need from Reno is to welcome me back with open arms,” Torres added.
He also praised two Reno airport police officers who responded to assist. “They handled the situation effectively,” Torres said.
Torres was waiting on Concourse C to fly to Los Angeles from Reno on Thursday night when he was talking to his Puerto Rican mother in Spanish. Torres said another man began complaining about his use of Spanish and Torres captured the confrontation on video. The man, called Mike on the video, uses obscene language towards Torres and also uses ethnic slurs.
At about the 1 minute, 8 second mark and again at 6 minute, 6 second mark of the video posted below, Mike appears to strike Torres. At the 7 minute, 18 second mark Mike appears to ram his wheelchair into Torres or his seat. Just then two Reno airport officers arrive. Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin said a third officer also responded.
The tirade is underscored by banal Reno airport flight announcements and WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE! audio from a nearby bank of slot machines.
A version of the video on WorldStar Hip Hop has more than 325,000 plays and a YouTube version has more than 175,000 plays. New York Daily News justice writer Shaun King Tweeted part of the video. It had more than 35,000 retweets. The BuzzFeed website has also written about it.
The airport authority said in a statement it continues to investigate the incident.

Upon being notified of the situation, Airport Police responded to the gate area on Concourse C within two minutes of being dispatched and spoke to both passengers involved as well as witnesses. The passenger who was the target of the discriminatory comments made a video of the incident, but when police arrived, he declined to press charges. The passenger who filmed the incident continued on his flight and the other passenger and his family did not fly that day.
“The security, safety and customer experience of all of our guests will always be our highest priority,” Marily Mora, President and CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority said. “The airport will be attempting to reach out to the passenger who made the video of the altercation to express our sincere apologies and support in the wake of the incident. We will also be conducting a thorough investigation into the events of that evening.”
“The Airport Authority is deeply saddened to see this type of situation occur at our airport. Every passenger, regardless of race, religion, the language they speak, nation of origin, sexual orientation, age or political belief is welcome at Reno-Tahoe International Airport,” said Mora.

Reno, Nevada
Reno is a city in the U.S. state of Nevada. It is located in the Northern portion of the state, approximately 36 miles (58 km) from Lake Tahoe. Known as "The Biggest Little City in the World", Reno is famous for its casinos and as the birthplace of Caesars Entertainment Corporation. It is the county seat of Washoe County, located in the northwestern part of the state. The city sits in a high desert at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and its downtown area (along with Sparks) occupies a valley informally known as the Truckee Meadows.
Reno is the most populous Nevada city outside of the Las Vegas–Paradise, NV MSA, with an estimated population of 233,294 in 2013, and is the third most populous city in the state after Las Vegas and Henderson.
Reno is part of the Reno–Sparks metropolitan area, which consists of all of both Washoe and Storey counties, and has a 2013 estimated population of 437,673, making it the second largest metropolitan area in Nevada.
History
Archaeological finds place the eastern border for the prehistoric Martis people in the Reno area.

Reno–Tahoe International Airport
Reno–Tahoe International Airport (IATA: RNO, ICAO: KRNO, FAA LID: RNO) is a public and military use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) southeast of downtown Reno, in Washoe County, Nevada. It is the state's second busiest commercial airport after McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The Nevada Air National Guard has the 152nd Airlift Wing southwest of the airport's main terminal.
History
Early years
The airport was built in 1929 by Boeing Transport Inc. and named Hubbard Field after Boeing Air Transport VP and air transport pioneer Eddie Hubbard. It was acquired by United Airlines in 1936 and purchased by the City of Reno in 1953. The August 1953 OAG shows 15 scheduled departures each weekday; ten years later there were 28. Jets (United 727s) arrived in 1964, but the airport didn't rate a nonstop to Los Angeles until 1969; a nonstop to Chicago began in 1970.
The first terminal building was completed in time for the 1960 Winter Olympics held in Squaw Valley, California in 1960. The current configuration of the ticketing lobby and concourses were built in 1979. The airport received its current name in 1994, when the terminal was named in honor of retired Air Force Reserve Major General and former U.S. Senator Howard Cannon. Prior to that the airport itself was named Cannon International Airport.

RENO, NV - The head of the Reno airport wants to call and apologize to a Florida man who faced obscenities and ethnic slurs by another passenger Thursday because he spoke Spanish to his mother on the telephone while waiting for a flight.
Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority President Marily Mora also wants to ask Hector Torres if he wants to file criminal charges against the airport passenger called Mike, who appears to strike Torres two or three times in an incident Torres captured on video.
But Torres brushed off any suggestion of an apology by the Reno-Tahoe International Airport..
“The Reno airport does not owe me an apology,” Torres said in a telephone interview as he prepared to fly back to Reno Sunday. “This has no reflection on them and their staff. Reno is a fantastic town. I’ve been treated like a king by each and every person I’ve encountered, except that one person.
“The only thing I need from Reno is to welcome me back with open arms,” Torres added.
He also praised two Reno airport police officers who responded to assist. “They handled the situation effectively,” Torres said.
Torres was waiting on Concourse C to fly to Los Angeles from Reno on Thursday night when he was talking to his Puerto Rican mother in Spanish. Torres said another man began complaining about his use of Spanish and Torres captured the confrontation on video. The man, called Mike on the video, uses obscene language towards Torres and also uses ethnic slurs.
At about the 1 minute, 8 second mark and again at 6 minute, 6 second mark of the video posted below, Mike appears to strike Torres. At the 7 minute, 18 second mark Mike appears to ram his wheelchair into Torres or his seat. Just then two Reno airport officers arrive. Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin said a third officer also responded.
The tirade is underscored by banal Reno airport flight announcements and WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE! audio from a nearby bank of slot machines.
A version of the video on WorldStar Hip Hop has more than 325,000 plays and a YouTube version has more than 175,000 plays. New York Daily News justice writer Shaun King Tweeted part of the video. It had more than 35,000 retweets. The BuzzFeed website has also written about it.
The airport authority said in a statement it continues to investigate the incident.

Upon being notified of the situation, Airport Police responded to the gate area on Concourse C within two minutes of being dispatched and spoke to both passengers involved as well as witnesses. The passenger who was the target of the discriminatory comments made a video of the incident, but when police arrived, he declined to press charges. The passenger who filmed the incident continued on his flight and the other passenger and his family did not fly that day.
“The security, safety and customer experience of all of our guests will always be our highest priority,” Marily Mora, President and CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority said. “The airport will be attempting to reach out to the passenger who made the video of the altercation to express our sincere apologies and support in the wake of the incident. We will also be conducting a thorough investigation into the events of that evening.”
“The Airport Authority is deeply saddened to see this type of situation occur at our airport. Every passenger, regardless of race, religion, the language they speak, nation of origin, sexual orientation, age or political belief is welcome at Reno-Tahoe International Airport,” said Mora.

5) Alien Black Mailbox in Area 51 to communicate with Aliens

Things to do in Nevada Travel Guide | USA Road Trip 2017 Video Transcript:
Our trip began in Las Vegas, but having already been there before, we wasted no time on the Strip. After a short night’s rest, we grabbed a hearty breakfast, hopped in our rental car, and hit the road for our first stop of the day: Lake Mead.
Hoover Dam is one of the most visited attractions in Nevada with as many as 1 million people taking the tour every year, and even more driving across the dam.
Fun fact: there is enough concrete in Hoover Dam to build a 4 foot wide sidewalk around the Earth at the Equator. That’s a whole lot of concrete!
Kayaking in Black Canyon was the highlight of the day. We lucked out with blue skies, calm waters, and the scenery was pretty spectacular - especially once we entered the canyon.
Halfway up stream we took a break from kayaking and went on a short hike.
We also stopped at the Emerald Cave, which gets it’s name from the bright emerald green colour reflected in the water.
We had an hour’s journey to reach the Valley of Fire that morning, and it was a very leisurely drive down some scenic stretches of road. We knew we were getting closer to the park when we noticed the landscape colours started becoming more saturated.
Once we entered Valley of Fire State Park, the fun began. This park is known for its rock formations, panoramic vistas, and hiking trails, so there was no shortage of things to see and do.
Back on the road, we hit our first stop on the ET Highway: ET Fresh Jerky! This is an alien-themed shop selling everything from martian soda to alien sunglasses, so we used this as an opportunity to load up on snacks.
After stopping for photos at the ET Highway marker which is covered in stickers, we journeyed on to the Alien Research Centre, which is pretty hard to miss considering they have a giant metal alien standing guard on a hill.
Out front, we spotted a UFO-towing pick-up truck and a green alien welcoming earthlings, while inside we were surrounded by Area 51 warning signs and all sorts of alien-themed souvenirs.
And then it was time to turn around, drive back to Vegas, and fly back home,.
A surprise addition to our Nevada travel guide was visiting Red Rock Canyon, which is just a 20-minute drive from the Vegas Strip.
Our final thoughts? There are way more things to do in Nevada than just Las Vegas and we’re glad we got to experience a mix of nature and quirky attractions on this mini USA road trip! Once we entered Valley of Fire State Park, the fun began. This park is known for its rock formations, panoramic vistas, and hiking trails, so there was no shortage of things to see and do.
Back on the road, we hit our first stop on the ET Highway: ET Fresh Jerky! This is an alien-themed shop selling everything from martian soda to alien sunglasses, so we used this as an opportunity to load up on snacks.
After stopping for photos at the ET Highway marker which is covered in stickers, we journeyed on to the Alien Research Centre, which is pretty hard to miss considering they have a giant metal alien standing guard on a hill.
Out front, we spotted a UFO-towing pick-up truck and a green alien welcoming earthlings, while inside we were surrounded by Area 51 warning signs and all sorts of alien-themed souvenirs.
And then it was time to turn around, drive back to Vegas, and fly back home,.
A surprise addition to our Nevada travel guide was visiting Red Rock Canyon, which is just a 20-minute drive from the Vegas Strip.
Our final thoughts? There are way more things to do in Nevada than just Las Vegas and we’re glad we got to experience a mix of nature and quirky attractions on this mini USA road trip!
