Threats made after Bunbury club advertises Schapelle Corby homecoming party

Show comments

A Bunbury nightclub's attempt to cash in on Schapelle Corby's homecoming media storm has resulted in threats being made against management.

Exit Nightclub advertised a 'Welcome Back Schapelle' night, to be held on Saturday June 3, complete with Bintangs, boogie board cocktails and a singlets and boardies dress code.

Advertising 'Bunno's only Corby party' with the tag line "12 years on – she's home", the event has caused a stir.

Club manager Lachie McAlister is behind the attempt to poke fun at Australia's current media obsession.

"To be honest, we really didn't expect this much attention," he said.

"Social media's our main way of reaching out to people, so it's usually a case of us whacking something together each week, getting it up on the social media channels and connecting with people.

"But this has just created so much controversy. We've had people threatening us and everything. So I have had to edit it a little, just to make sure everyone knows it's a joke."

Either way, Mr McAlister said he's glad the club has received attention.

"We didn't take it too seriously, so now we're going to have to think a bit more about it," he said.

That involves working out what a boogie board cocktail is made of.

"Look, to be honest, I'm not completely sure either," Mr McAlister said.

"But I'm in the venue tonight with the bar manager, so we're definitely going to spend a lot of time figuring that one out. Rest assured it'll probably be tropical."

"We're also providing free entry for the first hour – 10pm to 11pm – which is something we've never done before," Mr McAlister said.

"It's a special night."
