José Gervasio Viera Rodríguez (27 February 1948 – 28 October 1990), also simply known as Gervasio, was an Uruguayan singer who achieved popularity in Chile in 1983, when he won the international competition of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, with the song "Alma, Corazón y Pan". One of Gervasio's most famous compositions is "Con Una Pala y Un Sombrero", which he wrote in honour of his father, who died of lung cancer.
José Gervasio was born in Cerro Largo, Uruguay, on 27 February 1948. During his first years of life, he stayed in a children's home, and left school at 9 years old. His first public appearance as singer was in 1965, and "he did not leave music anymore, because through it he could interact with people from the upper class of Uruguay," Canal 13 reported.
Gervasio emigrated to Santiago de Chile in 1967, participating in Mario Kreutzberger's TV show Sábados Gigantes. Shortly afterwards, he already had some radio hits in Chile: "La Mujer Esdrújula" (which he performed in Sábados Gigantes), and "La Azafata". Gervasio left Chile for some time, and in Argentina he formed the band Los Náufragos, with which he had hits such as "Linda Chiquilina."
Viña del Mar (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbiɲa ðel maɾ] meaning "Vineyard of the Sea"), is a city and commune on central Chile's Pacific coast. Often referred as "La Ciudad Jardín" ("The Garden City"), Viña del Mar is located within the Valparaíso Region, and it's Chile's fourth largest city with a population of 324,836 (according to the 2012 census). Viña del Mar is also part of the Greater Valparaíso area, the country's third largest metropolitan area (pop. 803,683, 2002 census), after the Metropolitan areas of Santiago and Concepción. The Greater Valparaíso Area is home to 5 municipalities: Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Concon, Quilpue, and Villa Alemana.
Viña del Mar is known for its placid resorts, malls, extensive coastal high buildings, hotels and various entertainment venues. The city attracts an important influx of national as well as international visitors throughout the year.
The valley where Viña del Mar was founded was known as the valley of Peuco by the Changos, native inhabitants of the area dedicated to fishing. With the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores the valley was divided into two large haciendas. North of the Marga Marga creek up to the current location of Reñaca, Viña del Mar, and to the south up to the current Cerro Barón (Baron Hill), the Hacienda Las Siete Hermanas (The Seven Sisters).

Plot: One morning, Javier Ponce ('Joaquín Cordero' (qv)), a young unemployed lawyer, is buying the newspaper when he hears a gunshot in a cafe nearby. He enters and sees a middle-aged man with a gun in his hand, who demands the services of a lawyer. Javier offers his services to the man, who turns out to be wealthy businessman Don Carlos Narváez ('Carlos Orellana') and claims just having shot his best friend, yet he won't explain his motivations and wants to avoid any further investigations. Soon, Don Carlos' son Ricardo ('Armando Calvo' (qv)) steps in, and behaves very arrogantly to Javier. The young lawyer gets Don Carlos absolved, and he in turn makes Javier his administrator, much to Ricardo's disgust. Some time later, Javier discovers a lonely house where a strange woman plays the piano, and starts getting obsessed with her. When Don Carlos dies he leaves a letter to Javier explaining him that he accused himself of the crime to avoid a scandal for Gabriela, the deceased man's daughter, whom Ricardo had had sex with and then left without marrying her (something unacceptable for Mexico in the 1950s), so Don Carlos is leaving all his inheritance to Gabriela. Now, Javier must find Gabriela, whose current location is unknown, before Ricardo does...

This was the second song of the set at Churchill's - I tested the limits of looping technology by syncing Ableton Love loops controlled by an Akai APC40 with a pedal looper by Pigtronix called the "Infinity Looper". The result is that you can do solos on top of your freshly recorded chords. The trick is that the chords are in sync with the loops so the beat one of the next measure if where you recorded loop starts playing and you start wailing on the acoustic. I added some weird octave effects created by an Earthquaker Devices Organizer on some of the solos I took. The Epiphone has D-Tar piezo/condenser pickup. Enough gear mumbo jumbo. Listen and enjoy. One of my favorite tunes from the second album - The first line in particular I enjoy singing: " I can change it. In my mind there is a hole to forget things I don't really want to know". I have been trying to change that denial aspect of my life and I guess performing the song helps me notice that denial really only hides the dust under the rug ( while the rug gets dirty ). It was funny to notice that on my first album I had a song called "Can't Change" and now I sing " I can change it ". Maybe the third one will have a track titled: " I have changed already, I told you I could ". The performance was done entirely with a drum loop from Ableton Live ( controlled by an Akai APC40 ) and a Pigtronix Infinity Looper. I used the simple chord sequence to be repeated over the drums loops. The ...
This was the previous to last song of the set while opening for Jacob Acosta. I love playing this song live. I think it works perfect for a solo set since in the original version it only has acoustic guitar and vocals. There is something about this chords that moves me. I guess that is why I recorded it in the first place. Solos done with some live guitar looping on the Pigtronix Infinity Looper. Special FX on the acoustic guitar done with an Earthquaker Devices Organizer. This is the first time I ever performed this song live. I recorded it in 2002 and since I had never figured out what tuning I had on when I created. I finally figured it out ( it was a matter of really listening to the record ) - EBDGAD - that's it ! This was the first song I played at Churchill's and the only one I did with an electric guitar. The guitar was sent to me by some Korean Manufacturer. It plays pretty well, but it is obviously a PRS copy cat. The loops used are from my first album "Little Boy" and I triggered them from Ableton Live. Born blind in the winter with an empty head
The snow covered up the Camry the whole house slept
Drawing pictures in the bed
Waking up and racing down the stairs trying to catch my breath
It's so simple, superman, trick or treat, wet socks
Bike rides in the summer to the best spots
Coulda sworn I was king of the best odds
Runnin round with the dogs in the back yard
Growin never knowin what the past done
Livin life like the mystery of packed lunch
Getting whooped in the playground slashed up
Comin home after school on the last bus
Back then it was all about last
Hit the corner store for the new Fleer packs
Mom was a religion and happiness was a fact
It's a shame how the time goes past
Movin so fast
Its like im movin at lightspeed
Slow down
You need to slow down
Every once in a while sometimes
You'll see how the world goes round
You need to slow down every once in a whiiiiiile
Cuz you don't know you don't know
You don't need to goooo so fast
Things changed in the pop shop got an offer
Packed up moved out down to Colorado
Sunshine clean air not a lot of problems
And that's when I discovered pogs and tamagachi
Time past and the friends found punk yah
Oh whatever man a lot of it was junk
But we loved it made us feel cool little dumb kids
Runnin round just for fun doin dumb shit
I was lightin all my candles on both ends
Warren lake getting drunk wit the friends
I was tryin to stay positive even though I pretended it
It helped cause at home I was lackin a happy ending
For all, saw a lot of tall trees fall
In the name of an addiction my sister taught me to follow
I cracked cleaned up and got the backpack
I swore that I would never go back
Movin so fast
Its like im movin at lightspeed
Slow down
You need to slow down
Every once in a while sometimes
You'll see how the world goes round
You need to slow down every once in a whiiiiiile
Cause you don't know you don't know
You don't need to goooo so fast
Eighteen I decided I was done with it
Hit Seattle with a head full of drum rhythms
Falling in and out of love with these young women
Thinkin they could make a change of the blood given
Nah I was too young too face it
Workin two jobs still thinking I could make it
Local all star still singin from his basement
Finally got a shot and ive been workin everyday since
Found love in a city where the angels fly
Put a record out with josh one made out clime
Came home after two years and playin out rhymes
Just to find my little angel was no more mine
Parted ways with a friend was not easy
Made a leap to the future it got queasy
Started workin on the things that had lost reason
Now im sittin with a pad Movin so fast
Its like im movin at lightspeed
Slow down
You need to slow down
