Neo Arya: Entre L'Amour Et La Haine mLP, 1984 Play It Again Sam

Η αναζήτηση πληροφοριών για αυτή την ανάρτηση του Βελγικού post punk σχήματος Neo Arya αποδείχθηκε σχετικά άκαρπη, εκτός από ελάχιστα δεδομένα με τα οποία θα προσπαθήσουμε να ολοκληρώσουμε την εικόνα του συγκροτήματος.
Προφανώς ο κιθαρίστας Eric Delcroix πρώην μέλος του επίσης Βελγικού punk σχήματος Spermicide σχημάτισε τους Neo Arya μαζί με τους Chris Altree στο μπάσσο και τον Paul Hamesse στα τύμπανα. Μοναδική τους κυκλοφορία ήταν το μίνι άλμπουμ "Entre L'Amour Et La Haine" μέσω της θρυλικής 'Play It Again Sam' το 1984 και αποτελεί μία από τις πρώτες κυκλοφορίες της δισκογραφικής.  Κάτι παράξενο που κάνει τον δίσκο να ξεχωρίζει είναι πως η πρώτη πλευρά παίζει στις 45 στροφές και περιέχει τα δύο πρώτα κομμάτια, η δεύτερη πλευρά παίζει στις 33 στροφές και περιέχει τα υπόλοιπα πέντε.
Παρ' όλα αυτά ο δίσκος περιέχει κλασικά post punk κομμάτια, που ενίοτε μοιάζουν κάπως πρόχειρα. Το παίξιμο του μπάσσου είναι χαρακτηριστικό και δικαίως αποτελεί τη ραχοκοκκαλιά κάθε κομματιού με την κιθάρα να είναι σε δεύτερη μοίρα.
Αν και οι Neo Arya ήταν ένα βραχύβιο σχήμα, τα μέλη του πρόσφεραν ακόμη περισσότερα στην Βελγική punk και rock σκηνή. Την επόμενη χρονιά της κυκλοφορίας του "Entre L'Amour Et La Haine", οι Chris Altree και Paul Hamesse προχώρησαν στη δημιουργία των Revenge (είχαμε κάνει σχετική ανάρτηση) και αργότερα το 1989 τους Chainsaws.

ENG: Searching for info on Belgian punk rock/post punk band Neo Arya, there wasn't much to find other than scattered fragments of data which we'll try to put together.
Apparently, it was guitarist Eric Delcroix, a former member of Belgian punk band Spermicide who formed Neo Arya with Chris Altree on bass and Paul Hamesse on drums. They released only the mini album "Entre L'Amour Et La Haine" through the legendary 'Play It Again Sam' label in 1984. In fact it was one of the first releases of the label. Similarly, the band must've been creative if you consider that the mini LP has two songs on the first side playing at 45 rpm and five songs on the second side playing at 33 rpm. That's an oddity, isn't it?
Nevertheless, the album contains a few classic post punk songs that are enjoyable, even though they sound somewhat rudimentary. The bass line is being played in a distinct way while the guitar is a runner up.
Despite Neo Arya having a short life they were an important part of the Belgian punk and rock scene. A year after the release of "Entre L'Amour Et La Haine", Chris Altree and Paul Hamesse went on to form Revenge (remember them from an earlier post?) and The Chainsaws in 1989.

Esquisses: Esquisses mLP, 1984 Soundworks

Αν και αρχικά ήμαστε διστακτικοί όσον αφορά την ανάρτηση του mini LP "Esquisses" του ομώνυμου σχήματος/project, η εύρεση της σημασίας της λέξης "esquisses" μάς έδωσε περισσότερο θάρρος. Ακόμη και αν δεν είμαστε εντελώς σίγουροι για το ακριβές νόημα και περιεχόμενο της λέξης, πιστεύουμε πως σημαίνει "σκίτσο", ή "υπόνοια" και το συγκεκριμένο mini LP φαίνεται πως αντιπροσωπεύει και τις δύο έννοιες. Πρώτα-πρώτα είναι "σκίτσο" επειδή τα κομμάτια μοιάζουν να είναι ημιτελή και έπειτα είναι "υπόνοια" γιατί ο σκοπός και το νόημα των "μισοτελειωμένων" τραγουδιών παρέμεινε ασαφής. Χωρίς όμως να έχουμε την πρόθεση να φιλοσοφήσουμε περισσότερο, θεωρούμε ως ανάγκη μας να προσθέσουμε πως αρχικά μάθαμε για αυτό το επίτηδες πρόχειρο και ατελές διαμάντι (όπως κι πολλά άλλα) στο blog Phoenix Hairpins. Αν και η ανάρτηση είναι ακόμη εκεί, το αρχείο όμως λείπει και παρ' όλη τον αρχικό δισταγμό μας αισθανθήκαμε πως αυτό το υποδειγματικό άλμπουμ αξίζει μια νέα ψηφιοποίηση καθώς και νέα ανάρτηση.
Εννοείται πως όσοι από εσάς είστε ήδη λάτρεις των Tuxedomoon γνωρίζετε πως ο Steven Brown έπαιξε alto σαξόφωνο σε τρία κομμάτια του δίσκου, πιο συγκεκριμένα στα "No Sin", "First Things First #3" και "Last Time". Πέρα από το γεγονός αυτό, γενικότερα σε ολόκληρο το mini LP είναι κυρίαρχη η αίσθηση της επιρροής των αγαπημένων μας Tuxedomoon, χωρίς όμως να έχουμε την πεποίθηση πως αυτό έγινε εσκεμμένα, αντίθετα πρόκειται για μια έντιμη δημιουργία σε κοινό ύφος με των Tuxedomoon.
Όπως και αναφέρει η ανάρτηση του Phoenix Hairpins, οι Esquisses φαίνεται πως κατάγονται από το Βέλγιο, καθώς το άλμπουμ ηχογραφήθηκε σε studio στις Βρυξέλλες. Όπως επίσης είναι γνωστό, τα μέλη των Tuxedomoon ήδη κατοικούσαν στις Βρυξέλλες εκείνο τον καιρό, πράγμα που δικαιολογεί και την συμμετοχή του Steven Brown. Πάντως ο βασικός πυρήνας των Esquisses ήταν οι μουσικοί των οποίων τα "ονόματα" ήταν Mike Shelter και SPY. Επιπλέον η ηχογράφηση στελεχώθηκε και από άλλους μουσικούς.
Για όσους από εσάς αναρωτιούνται, μια τέτοια δημιουργία δεν θα σας απογοητεύσει επειδή αν και είναι μικρής διάρκειας (σχεδόν 32') στα τραγούδια αυτά είναι κυρίαρχη μια ανεπιτήδευτη μελαγχολία σε ισορροπία με το ειλικρινές σκοτάδι των δημιουργών. Επιπλέον, ενώ τα κομμάτια αυτά είναι χτισμένα κάπως μινιμαλιστικά και λιτά, έχουν μια ξεχωριστή ποιητική δυναμική. Εννοείται πως θα θελήσετε να το ξανα-ακούσετε αρκετές φορές. Για εμάς η μουσική αυτή πρέπει να ντύνει φθινοπωρινά απογεύματα και μας κάνει να νιώθουμε ωραία καθώς ξυπνά την νοσταλγία. Καλή σας ακρόαση.

ENG: Though initially hesitant about posting "Esquisses" mini LP by the band/project of the same name, we became bolder after looking up the meaning of "esquisses". Even though we're not quite certain about its context, we think it might be that of a sketch or a hint of something. To our mind, it couldn't be truer than this because this particular mini LP is both; first of all a 'sketch' because its songs seem as if they were barely finished, and secondly a 'hint' because of them not being finished, therefore their meaning and purpose remained vague. However not wanting to be any more philosophical, we need to say that the first time we've become aware of the existence of this deliberately sketchy gem was through Phoenix Hairpins' blog. The blogpost is still there, but the download link isn't, and despite still being hesitant, we felt that this excellent mini LP deserved a new digitization and a repost as well.
Definitely most of you who are Tuxedomoon fans are already aware that Steven Brown played alto sax on three songs of the album ("No Sin", "First Things First #3" and "Last Time"), but besides that there is a discreet Tuxedomoon feel to the whole musical outcome, albeit not an effort to copy Tuxedomoon, but an honest creation in similar vein.
Similarly mentioned in Phoenix Hairpins' post, the band seems to be of Belgian origin, as the songs were recorded in a studio in Brussels. Additionally it's known that Tuxedomoon members were Brussels residents at the time and Steven Brown should have been around. Anyway, Esquisses' two main members were Mike Shelter and SPY; both must've been pseudonyms. Apart from Steven Brown there were a few musicians who aided in creating this beautiful record.
For those who wonder how the music of Esquisses is like, you won't be disappointed because even though it's a mini LP (approx 32 mins) it is glazed with non-pretentious melancholia and tuned with sincere darkness. The songs are rather minimal, unadorned and austere but they are overly solid and satisfactory with lyrical power. You will definitely want to listen to it a few times. To us, this is music for autumn afternoons and music that makes you feel good because it evokes nostalgia. We hope you enjoy its listen.

The Spectors: Main Tracks cdr, 1998 Self-Released

Με καθυστερημένες ευχές για τη νέα χρονιά, ξεκινάμε το 2017 με μια ξεχωριστή ανάρτηση. Έχουμε μια ελληνική γκαραζο-ψυχεδελική μπάντα τους Spectors που κατάγονται από το Αμύνταιο στον βόρειο νομό της Φλώρινας. Πρόκειται για μια ανάρτηση που μας πήρε αρκετό χρόνο, αλλά είναι και μια ευκαιρία για εμάς να 'μοιραστούμε' το cdr "Main Tracks" των Spectors μαζί σας.
Εξίσου σημαντικό είναι το γεγονός πως δεν ήταν εύκολο να εντοπίσουμε πληροφορίες για τους Spectors, οπότε το μεγαλύτερο μέρος τους προέρχεται από μια σύντομη βιογραφία στο εξώφυλλο του cdr, αλλά και από πληροφορίες που μας παρείχε ο φίλτατος blogger 'giusurum', τον οποίο και ευχαριστούμε θερμά.
Ας ξεκινήσουμε με τα μέλη της μπάντας όπως αναφέρεται στο εξώφυλλο του cdr: Κώστας Χατζής (φωνητικά και κιθάρα), Κώστας Μίχος (μπάσσο), Θεόδωρος Φιλίππου (πλήκτρα και σαξόφωνο), Χρήστος Χατζηιωάννου (φωνητικά) και Κωστής Χατζηιωάννου (κιθάρα και μπάσσο). Επιπλέον, χρησιμοποιήθηκε drum machine σε όλα τα κομμάτια. Αναφέρεται και ένας ντράμερ ονόματι Νίκος Νικολαΐδης από τα πρώτα μέλη της μπάντας αλλά δεν συμμετέχει σε κανένα τραγούδι του "Main Tracks". Αργότερα, στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '90 ο Κώστας Χατζής δημιούργησε το garage σχήμα Unknown Passage, ενώ το 2008 πριν πεθάνει έκανε το project Dead Tymes .
Εκτός από το πασίγνωστο κομμάτι "Photogrey" που βρίσκεται στην συλλογή "Το Μαγικό Βοτάνι" της Wipe-Out, οι Spectors δεν είχαν καμία ολοκληρωμένη κυκλοφορία σε βινύλιο. Είχαν όμως κυκλοφορήσει υλικό τους σε κασέτες, όπως π.χ. τη ζωντανή ηχογράφηση του 1985 "Οι Spectors ζωντανά στο Ξινό Νερό", ένδειξη πως η μπάντα ήταν αρκετά δραστήρια κυρίως στην Βόρεια Ελλάδα. Το 1987 κυκλοφόρησαν επίσης σε κασέτα τη στουντιακή ηχογράφηση "Sorry For You".
Όσον αφορά το cdr "Main Tracks" φαίνεται να αποτελεί την ολοκληρωμένη συλλογή τραγουδιών και δείχνει την ικανότητά τους να φτιάχνουν εκπληκτική μουσική σε garage-psychedelic κατεύθυνση. Εδώ όλα τα τραγούδια έχουν γραφτεί από τους Spectors και ηχογραφήθηκαν στο σπίτι του Θόδωρου Φιλίππου στο χρονικό διάστημα από το 1986 έως το 1993. Θα ακούσετε αρκετά ενδιαφέροντα τραγούδια σε ελληνικό και αγγλικό στίχο, μεταξύ αυτών και την εκπληκτική μελοποίηση του ποίηματος του E.A. Poe "The Raven", αλλά και μια διαφορετική εκτέλεση του "Photogrey".

ENG: Delayed happy new year wishes to everybody and we're kicking off 2017 with a special treat for you. Here's the greek garage/psychedelic band Spectors that originated from the city of Amyntaio in the northern prefecture of Florina. Note that this post has been a long time waiting one and an opportunity for us to share the "Main Tracks" cdr with you.
It's equally important to note that it wasn't easy to find much info about the Spectors, so all the feedback we post comes from a short biography note on the cdr cover as well as some info provided by fellow blogger 'giusurum' whom we wholeheartedly thank.
To begin with, the Spectors members according to the cdr info were Costas Hatzis (vocals, guitar), Costas Michos (bass guitar), Theodoros Filippou (keyboards, saxophone), Christos Hatziioannou (vocals) and Costis Hatziioannou (guitar, bass guitar). Additionally a drum machine was used in all the songs. A drummer by the name Nikos Nikolaides is mentioned as one of the early members but isn't present in any of the songs. It must've been late 90s when Costas Hatzis created the garage band Unknown Passage and in 2008, before he died, he had another project called Dead Tymes.
Apart from their song "Photogrey" that is featured in Wipe-Out's "Magico Votani" [Magic Herb] the band didn't have any other proper vinyl releases. They did have some tapes released though, for instance there's a live tape recorded in 1985 entitled "The Spectors live In Ksino Nero" and a studio recorded tape entitled "Sorry For You" in 1987.
As far as the "Main Tracks" cdr is concerned, it seems to cover the band's entire studio recording history and exhibits their skill at building songs in a unique style of garage-psychedelic orientation. All the songs were composed by the Spectors and were recorded in Theodoros Filippou's house from 1986 to 1993. So get ready to listen to some very interesting pieces both in Greek and English lyrics, among them an amazing version of  E.A. Poe's "The Raven" and a different version of "Photogrey". If you don't know the Spectors, this is the opportunity to find out about them. Have a good listening to "Main Tracks" and enjoy.

Tactics: The Great Gusto LP, 1990 Regular Records

Ξορκίζουμε το 2016 μέσω του αισιόδοξου και ταυτόχρονα κυνικού τρόπου των Αυστραλιανών Tactics.
Σχεδόν μια δεκαετία μετά από τις πρωτοποριακές και παγερές συγχορδίες του "My Houdini" αλλά και στο μεταξύ την κυκλοφορία μερικών άλμπουμ, οι Tactics έκλεισαν τον κύκλο τους με το άλμπουμ "The Great Gusto". Αναπόφευκτα, αυτό το τελευταίο άλμπουμ δεν έμοιαζε καθόλου σαν το διθυραμβικό ξεκίνημα του "My Houdini". Ίσως δεν είναι υπερβολή εδώ να σημειώσουμε πως το "The Great Gusto" δεν είναι εύκολο να το εντοπίσει κανείς για να το ακούσει έστω μέσω κάποιου download. Ο πιο προφανής λόγος που συμβαίνει αυτό είναι βέβαια ότι επισκιάστηκε από όλα τα προηγούμενα άλμπουμ των Tactics, μηδενός εξαιρουμένου, και για αυτό το λόγο και δεν είναι γνωστό. Μια άλλη αιτία είναι ίσως η φήμη πως ο αρχηγός του σχήματος David Studdert έχει "αποκηρύξει" την ύπαρξη του άλμπουμ.
Παρά το γεγονός ότι η εν λόγω κυκλοφορία είναι πράγματι από μουσικής άποψης κάπως συμβατική, κοινότυπη ή και ήπια σε σχέση με τους παλιότερους δίσκους τους, παραμένει ένα χαρακτηριστικό άλμπουμ των Tactics πιστό στη φλέβα των προηγούμενων, αν και σχετικά αδύναμο άλμπουμ. Τα τραγούδια περιέχουν στοιχεία από σχεδόν κάθε άλλο τραγούδι που έχουν γράψει ο David Studdert και η παρέα του, οπότε το αποτέλεσμα δεν ξενίζει. Ιδιαίτερα όσοι από εσάς είστε ήδη εξοικειωμένοι με τη μουσική τους θα συμφωνήσετε στα παραπάνω. Ελπίζουμε να απολαύσετε αυτήν την ξεχασμένη και σκόπιμα παραγκωνισμένη δουλειά των καταπληκτικών Tactics, η ανάρτηση της οποίας αποτελεί και την τελευταία για το 2016.

ENG: We exorcise the year 2016 by means of the optimistic yet cynical way of the Australian band Tactics.
Almost a decade and a few albums after the groundbreaking chilling chords of "My Houdini", the Tactics released their final work entitled "The Great Gusto". Inevitably, that final album was nothing like the long-praised and critically acclaimed first toil. It can't be an exaggeration to note here that "The Great Gusto" is an album hard to listen to or get to through download of any sort. The most apparent reason for that is, of course, that all the previous great Tactics LPs from "My Houdini" to "Blue And White Future Whale" cast a long shadow upon "Gusto". Another reason might be a rumour that David Studdert has renounced this LP.
Now, despite the fact that "The Great Gusto" is kind of mainstream or mellow or watered down as many people would propose, it still remains a Tactics album, yet not as strong as the previous ones. The songs contain elements of almost every other song having been written by Studdert and his band. Those of you who are familiarized with the style of this amazing band definitely will agree on that. Also, we hope you enjoy this forgotten and deliberately sidelined work that also serves as the last post of Ten Thousand Eyes for 2016.
We wish you a happier and, in any aspect, a better 2017.

1. Ellery Bop: Fire In Reflection 12" ep [Desire-1983]
Οι Ellery Bop ήταν post punk/indie σχήμα από το Liverpool της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Πραγματικά δεν έχουμε βρεί πολλά για αυτούς, αλλά θα τους ακούσετε και θα βγάλετε τα συμπεράσματά σας. Στη σελίδα της wikipedia αναφέρει πως στις ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις ήταν περισσότερο δραστήριοι και δυναμικοί. Χωρίς φυσικά να έχουμε προσωπική άποψη επ' αυτού, έχουμε μόνο το ep τους "Fire In Reflection" στο οποίο περιέχονται μερικά αξιοπρόσεκτα και 'ζωηρά' κομμάτια τους. Απολαύστε το!
ENG: Ellery Bop were a post punk/indie band from Liverpool, UK. Actually there isn't much info about them, but you can listen for yourselves what their sound was like. Wikipedia mentions that they sounded more energetic on stage. Not knowing whether that is a fact, "Fire In Reflection" ep contains a few notable and lively songs. Enjoy!

2. Bone Orchard: Princess Epilepsy 12" ep [Jungle-1985]
Οι Bone Orchard ήταν ένα βραχύβιο, post punk/gothic rock (batcave) σχήμα με θηλυκή παρουσία στα φωνητικά με καταγωγή από το Brighton της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Παρά τη αρκετά σύντομη δραστηριότητά τους από το 1983 έως το 1985, κατάφεραν να εδραιώσουν το μοναδικό ύφος τους αν και συχνά τους σύγκριναν με τους Birthday Party. Η πρώτη πλευρά του 12ιντσου ep "Princess Epilepsy" έχει έντονο, σκοτεινό και παθιασμένο ύφος. Ομοίως ενδιαφέρον είναι και το "Same Old Ball and Chain", ένα αργόσυρτο blues κομμάτι που καλύπτει την δεύτερη πλευρά που ίσως αποτελεί τη δική τους εκδοχή στο "Ball and Chain" της Big Mama Thornton. ENG: Bone Orchard were a short-lived, female fronted, post punk/gothic rock (also labeled as 'batcave') band from Brighton, U.K. Despite their short term activity (1983-1985) they managed to establish a unique style for themselves even if they were often compared to Birthday Party. The first side of the 12" e.p. "Princess Epilepsy" sounds intense, dark and passionate too. Equally intriguing is the song "Same Old Ball and Chain", a slow blues-like song - perhaps their version of Big Mama Thornton's "Ball and Chain". Enjoy!

3. Furyo: Furioso 12" ep [Anagram-1984]
Οι Furyo ήταν μουσικό σχήμα από το Luton της Μ. Βρετανίας και δημιουργήθηκαν τους Steve Abbot και Steve Harle, πρώην μέλη των U.K. Decay. Αρχικά ονομαζόντουσαν Meat of Youth και αφού προσχώρησε και ο Albie de Luca από τους Gene Loves Jezebel, τότε μετονομάστηκαν σε Furyo. Το ενδιαφέρον με τους Furyo ήταν πως το ύφος τους ήταν αρκετά διαφορετικό από αυτό των U.K. Decay ή των Gene Loves Jezebel, ή οποιουδήποτε άλλου σχήματος που αναφέρεται ως 'batcave'. Ειδικότερα, είχαν μια έντεχνη και θεατρική προσέγγιση στη μουσική τους με πολλά κλασικά και μπαρόκ στοιχεία. Όσοι από εσάς δεν γνωρίζετε τους Furyo θα σας ξαφνιάσει το πόσο πολύ εξέλιξαν την post punk/gothic μουσική τους. Μην το χάσετε!
ENG: Furyo was a band from Luton, U.K. and was created by Steve Abbot and Steve Harle after U.K. Decay had stopped existing. At first they were called Meat of Youth, and after Albie de Luca from Gene Loves Jezebel joined the band, they renamed themselves Furyo. What's very interesting about Furyo is that their style was quite different from that of U.K. Decay or Gene Loves Jezebel or even any other 'batcave' band. More specifically, Furyo had an artistic and theatrical approach with many classical and baroque music elements. For those of you unfamiliar with the band, you'll be amazed how these musicians took their punk/post punk/gothic style lots of steps further. Definitely this one is not to be missed out. Enjoy!

4. Dustdevils: The Dropping Well 12" ep [Rouska-1987]
Οι Dustdevils ήταν ένα Νεοϋορκέζικο post punk/noise rock σχήμα με θηλυκή παρουσία στα φωνητικά με διάρκεια ζωής πάνω από μια δεκαετία. Μέλη των Dustdevils έχουν συνεργαστεί και με άλλα γνωστά σχήματα όπως οι Pavement και οι Sonic Youth. Εδώ φιλοξενούμε το πρώτο τους 12" ep με τίτλο "The Dropping Well" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1987 και αποτυπώνει τον χαρακτηριστικό τους θορυβώδη ήχο που επιτυγχάνεται με τη χρήση ενός τείχους παραμορφωμένης κιθάρας. ENG: The Dustdevils were a female fronted post punk/noise rock band from in New York City, U.S. and they were active for more than a decade. Members of the Dustdevils have also worked with Pavement and Sonic Youth. In today's post there's "The Dropping Well", their first 12" ep, which was released in 1987 and illustrates their characteristic noisy sound utilising a wall of distorted guitar. Lach'n Jonsson, Songs From The Cities Of Decay LP, 1989 Bauta Records

Έχουμε άλλη μία υπερ-καθυστερημένη ανάρτηση με αρκετά ενδιαφέρουσα μουσική από τον 'Unspeakable'. Αφορά σε έναν όχι τόσο γνωστό καλλιτέχνη που ονομάζεται Lach'n Jonsson και το δεύτερο προσωπικό του δίσκο κυκλοφορίας 1989 που τιτλοφορείται "Songs From The Cities Of Decay".
Ο (Lars) Lach'n Jonsson είναι ένας πολυτάλαντος μουσικός από την Σουηδία. Παραθέτουμε κάτι σχετικά από τη σελίδα www.progarchives.com: "... πολυπράγμων μουσικός που τραγουδά, παίζει έγχορδα, πλήκτρα, κιθάρα, τύμπανα και ούτω καθ'εξής. Είναι συνθέτης και παραγωγός, διδάσκει μουσικό πολιτισμό, γράφει δισκοκριτικές, και διοργανώνει συναυλίες και φεστιβάλ στην γενέτειρά του, την πόλη Ostergotland. Είναι ιδιοκτήτης του 'Forest Studio' και της δισκογραφικής Bauta." Προφανώς τα παραπάνω μας λένε πως πρόκειται για ένα ικανότατο και πολυτάλαντο καλλιτέχνη αφού μπορεί να ερμηνεύει ολόκληρο άλμπουμ μόνος του.
Συνεπώς το "Songs From The Cities Of Decay" δεν είναι απλά πλούσιο σε ήχους και ιδέες αλλά είναι εξίσου ευχάριστα μελαγχολικό καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια του. Με ατμοσφαιρικά και 'εύθραυστα' μουσικά θέματα συχνά θυμίζει κινηματογραφική μουσική. Η πρώτη πλευρά του δίσκου είναι χωρισμένη σε οκτώ κομμάτια διαφορετικού ύφους και ρυθμού. Αντίθετα η δεύτερη αποτελείται από ένα μακροσκελές 'έπος' διάρκειας 23 λεπτών με ομαλά εναλλασσόμενα θέματα, κάποια από τα οποία είναι έντονα και επιβλητικά. Στο σύνολό του το άλμπουμ είναι πράγματι ένα καλοδουλεμένο 'κολάζ' διαφορετικών στυλ και ιδεών με όμορφες 'γέφυρες' στο πιάνο, μελωδικά μέρη με έγχορδα, όπως και απόκοσμων φωνητικών αποδόσεων ιδιαίτερα στο "Monuments" οι οποίες θυμίζουν χορικό αρχαίας τραγωδίας. Είναι δύσκολο να βάλει ταμπέλα στην δουλειά του καλλιτέχνη αυτού, αν και θα μπορούσαμε να την κατατάξουμε ως "RIO" [Rock In Opposition]. Ο όρος αυτός αναφέρεται κυρίως σε μουσικούς ή μουσικά σχήματα των οποίων το μη συμβατικό ύφος δεν αναγνωρίζεται από την κυρίαρχη, συμβατή εμπορική μουσική βιομηχανία.
Αν και δεν έχουμε ακούσει το πρώτο solo άλμπουμ του Jonsson "Music For The Dying Forest" (1985), ή το τρίτο "Songs Between Cities and Waterholes" (1992), μας φαίνεται πως το σύνολο των τριών αυτών κυκλοφοριών αποτελεί ένα είδος τριλογίας γύρω από μια συγκεκριμένη θεματολογία. Όπως και νά'χει, θέλουμε να πιστεύουμε πως θα ταυτιστείτε με την εκφραστική μουσική του "Songs From The Cities Of Decay" ιδιαιτέρως όσοι εντρυφείτε σε πειραματικά ηχοτοπία. Απολαύστε το!

ENG: Now that's another overdue post with more intriguing music introduced to you by The Unspeakable. Here's a not so well known artist by the name Lach'n Jonsson and his second and wonderful LP from 1989 entitled "Songs From The Cities Of Decay".
Lars Lach'n Jonsson is an multitalented artist from Sweden. Quoting from progarchives, "...he is a multi-instrumentalist who sings, plays strings, keyboards, guitar, drums, tuned percussion and so on. He is a composer and producer, a teacher of soundculture, a music critic, and an arranger of concerts and festivals in his native region of Ostergotland. He owns The Forest Studio and runs Bauta Records." That all says he is a skillful and versatile artist as he performs the whole album by himself.
Consequently, the music of "Songs From The Cities Of Decay" not only is rich in sounds and ideas but also pleasantly moody throughout. The themes are atmospheric and fragile and often similar to film music. The first side is conventionally divided into eight themes with varied style and pace. On the contrary, the second side consists of one lengthy 23-minute epic with smoothly alternating themes; some of them are quite strong and influencing. The whole LP is in fact a collage of different styles and ideas, with beautiful piano bridges and melodic string parts, as well as otherworldly vocals; especially in "Monuments" the vocals bring to mind chorales from an ancient greek tragedy. What's more, you can't really tag Jonsson's style. His creative work could be categorized as "RIO" [Rock In Opposition].(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_in_Opposition) The term refers to artists/groups whose diverse and unconventional style isn't recognised by the dominant, conventional and commercial music industry.
While not having listened to Jonsson's first solo LP "Music For The Dying Forest" (1985) or the third one "Songs Between Cities and Waterholes" (1992), it somehow feels like these three albums were meant to be a kind of informal trilogy related to certain themes. Whatever the case is, we believe that you'll relate to the expressive music of "Songs From The Cities Of Decay", especially those of you who indulge yourselves in experimental soundscapes. Enjoy.

Blue China: Spiritual Beauty LP, 1983 Electric Unicorn

Σχεδόν ένα χρόνο πριν αναρτήσαμε τη 12ιντση συλλογή "Tomorrow Never Knows" των Blue China. Μέχρι αυτή τη στιγμή δεν έχουμε βρει καινούργιες πληροφορίες για το σχήμα αυτό, οπότε ισχύει ό,τι γράψαμε προηγουμένως, σε περίπτωση που θα θέλατε να φρεσκάρετε τη μνήμη σας. Στη σημερινή ανάρτηση έχουμε το μοναδικό LP των Blue China με τον τίτλο "Spiritual Beauty" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1983 και αυτό από την Electric Unicorn.
Κατ' αρχήν το ολοκληρωμένο άλμπουμ "Spiritual Beauty" σε σύγκριση με το 12ιντσο "Tomorrow Never Knows" είναι φυσικά πιο πλήρες και αποδίδει καλύτερα τις δυνατότητες του ξεχωριστού αυτού Ελβετικού σχήματος. Τα οκτώ κομμάτια του δίσκου είναι αψεγάδιαστα, ατμοσφαιρικά και αναμφισβήτητα γεμάτα πρωτοτυπία καθώς δονούνται στο οικείο mid-tempo ύφος με λίγες και περιστασιακές εξάρσεις. Κάποια από αυτά είναι διανθισμένα με εξωτικές μελωδίες που τείνουν να είναι σχεδόν σε ψυχεδελικό στυλ, εάν προσέξετε ιδιαίτερα τα "We Talk" και "Dwarf" και ακόμα πιο προφανείς στο "Calls". Επίσης, ορισμένα κομμάτια είναι ορχηστρικά, όμως αυτό δεν αφαιρεί τίποτα από το έξοχο αποτέλεσμα.
Εάν δώσετε επιπλέον προσοχή στην δομή και άλλων τραγουδιών, πιο συγκεκριμένα τo "Solitude", το "Italian Kill Birds", ή το "Uncle Fear" θα συνειδητοποιήσετε ότι οι Blue China είχαν πολλές δυνατότητες αλλά για τους όποιους δικούς τους λόγους δεν επέκτειναν την σύντομη δισκογραφία τους. Απολαύστε το "Spiritual Beauty" καθώς αποτελεί εξαιρετική προσπάθεια.

ENG: Almost a year ago we posted Blue China's "Tomorrow Never Knows" 12" compilation. Up until the present time we haven't unearthed any further info on the band, so you can go ahead and read the previous post on Blue China to refresh your memory. Anyway, today we've got a post about their sole LP entitled "Spiritual Beauty", released in 1983 through the Electric Unicorn label.
First of all, compared to the 12inch "Tomorrow Never Knows" compilation, the "Spiritual Beauty" album is fuller and gives the listener a better perspective of what this unique Swiss band were capable of. The eight songs consisting the album are flawless, atmospheric and undoubtedly original. They pulsate in the familiar mid-tempo style of the band with the exception of few minor peaks here and there. Some of them are interspersed with exotic tunes in a kind of psychedelic manner, if you notice "We Talk" and "Dwarf", even more apparent in "Calls". Some of the songs are instrumentals, but that does not detract from being the same as excellent.
Should you pay extra attention to the structure of other songs, especially "Solitude", "Italian Kill Birds", or "Uncle Fear", you might realise that Blue China would have had great potential, but they never expanded on their short discography apparently for their own reasons. Enjoy "Spiritual Beauty" as it is an outstanding effort.

Spacelings: 2000 Megatons Of Love LP, 1988 Voices Of Wonder Records

Σήμερα παρουσιάζουμε μια νεο-ψυχεδελική μπάντα από την Νορβηγία οι οποίοι ονομάζονται Spacelings και με το μοναδικό τους LP με τίτλο "2000 Megatons Of Love" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1988 από την Voices Of Wonder Records. Δυστυχώς δεν υπάρχει καμία πληροφορία για το εξαιρετικό συγκρότημα της ανάρτησής μας εκτός από το discogs, όπου βλέπουμε πως πριν από το "2000 Megatons Of Love" ευθύνονται για την κυκλοφορία ενός 7" single και ενός  12" e.p.
Τώρα όσον αφορά τη μουσική αυτή καθεαυτή, το σύνολο του δίσκου αποτελεί ένα εξαιρετικό δείγμα δουλειάς και περιέχει αρκετά διαμάντια που κυριολεκτικά θα σας ενθουσιάσουν, ιδιαίτερα σε όσους/όσες αρέσει η νεοψυχεδελική και νεο-garage αναβίωση αλλά και σε όσους/όσες το όνομα Spacelings είναι άγνωστο. Ανάμεσα στα οκτώ κομμάτια του άλμπουμ βρίσκονται κάποια με ακουστικό ξεκίνημα και διαδοχικά ηλεκτρικά ξεσπάσματα, όπως άλλωστε συμβαίνει κυρίως στο "Not So Long Ago" και στο "Pictures". Ακόμα υπάρχει και το "Perils Of Pursuit" με έντονο garage ύφος αλλά και το "The Eye" που θα σας κεντρίσει την περιέργεια με το διακριτικό 'γέμισμα' της τρομπέτας. Τα πιο αγαπημένα μας είναι βέβαια τα "Book Of Lies" και "The Snake", τα οποία αποδίδονται με ένα μοναδικά ενισχυμένο και εξηλεκτρισμένο τρόπο. Τέλος, το "Wildside" ακολουθεί κατά πόδας στο ίδιο ύφος με μόνη διαφορά την βαριά μελωδία, αλλά και το "Jupiter Day" που συμπληρώνει το δίσκο. Ελπίζουμε πως οι Spacelings δεν θα αφήσουν κανέναν δυσαρεστημένο. Καλή ακρόαση!

ENG: Today's post is about a neo-psychedelic band from Norway called Spacelings, and their only full-length LP entitled "2000 Megatons Of Love" and released in 1988 via the Voices Of Wonder Records. Unfortunately there is absolutely no information concerning this outstanding band except on discogs where we find that they have been responsible for releasing a 7" single and a 12" e.p. prior to the "2000 Megatons Of Love".
Now as far as the music itself, the whole album is an outstanding piece of work, containing a few gems that will literally blow your mind - especially those of you who are enthusiasts of the neo-psychedelic and neo-garage revival and those to whom the name Spacelings doesn't sound familiar. Among the eight songs, there are acoustic ones with consecutive electric breakouts as it happens on "Not So Long Ago" and "Pictures", or pure garage-style tracks such as "Perils Of Pursuit". "The Eye" is another stand out song with a distinctive trumpet fill. Our favourite ones are "Book Of Lies" and "The Snake" both of which are exceptionally delivered in an intensified and electrified manner. Finally, "Wildside" follows suit with a slightly heavier tune, and "Jupiter Day" completes the LP. Hope the Spacelings won't disappoint you. Enjoy!

Accustomed to bereavement / Έγινε η απώλεια συνήθειά μας...

Χθές, Σάββατο 3 Σεπτέμβρη 'έφυγε' μετά από πολύμηνη μάχη με τον καρκίνο ο Θάνος Ανεστόπουλος, τραγουδιστής αλλά και συνθέτης και στιχουργός των Διάφανων Κρίνων, ενός συγκροτήματος που από το 1991 έως το 2009 έδωσαν νέα πνοή στην γηγενή ροκ σκηνή και κατάφεραν να αποκτήσουν οπαδούς και εκτός των συνόρων. Ήμουν, είμαι και θα είμαι ένθερμος οπαδός του συγκροτήματος αυτού που με όχημα τη βελούδινη και σκοτεινή μουσική τους έφεραν το στίχο και την ποίηση πάλι στο προσκήνιο. Ήταν πρωτοπόροι σε αυτό που έκαναν, το μόνο αντίστοιχο που μπορώ να σκεφτώ από ξένα συγκροτήματα είναι οι Tindersticks. Τα Διάφανα Κρίνα με επικεφαλής τον Θάνο και την εκφραστικότητα του έφεραν εικόνες από το σκοτάδι της ανθρώπινης ψυχής στο φως της καθημερινότητας μας, σκιές που περπάτησαν ανάμεσά μας, συμφιλιωθήκαμε μαζί τους και έγιναν φίλοι μας. Η μουσική και οι στίχοι αυτοί συντρόφεψαν τους έρωτες, τις ανησυχίες και τις σκοτεινές στιγμές του παρελθόντος και θα μας συνοδεύσουν και στο μέλλον. Αν και η μουσική των "Κρίνων" έχει μια έντονα μελαγχολική και απαισιόδοξη ματιά, δεν είναι μουσική παραίτησης από τα εγκόσμια, αντίθετα λειτουργεί παρηγορητικά και αγωνιστικά. Τα Διάφανα Κρίνα αλλά και ο ίδιος ο Ανεστόπουλος είχαν λάβει μέρος σε πλήθος αντιφασιστικών και αντιρατσιστικών εκδηλώσεων υπέρ των μεταναστών, των προσφύγων, κτλ.
Τους έχω δει αρκετές φορές σε ζωντανές εμφανίσεις, η πρώτη από τις οποίες ήταν στο "Μπαρ Των Ασωμάτων" στο Θησείο, έπισης και σε μία σημαντική εμφάνισή τους στο πρώτο Rockwave Festival το 1996 στο γήπεδο της Ριζούπολης (μαζί με Flowers Of Romance, Love In Sadness, New Model Army και Sisters Of Mercy). Αυτή όμως που θα μου μείνει αξέχαστη ήταν μια εμφάνιση στο Gagarin 205, εκεί προς το τέλος της βραδιάς που έπαιζαν τον "Μπλέ Χειμώνα" σε μια εκτέλεση που ήδη είχε ήδη φτάσει τα 30 λεπτά και ενώ ο Θάνος έβλεπε πολλούς να φεύγουν από τον χώρο αφού είχε περάσει και η ώρα, τους προέτρεπε επανελειμμένα να επιστρέψουν.
Καλό σου ταξίδι Θάνο, σε ευχαριστούμε που μας έδωσες την ψυχή και την καρδιά σου και που ήσουν ένας από εμάς. Μας άφησες τη φωνή σου, τη μουσική σου και την ποίηση και έτσι θα σε θυμόμαστε.

ENG: Yesterday, Saturday September 3, Thanos Anestopoulos died after months of battling with cancer. He was the frontman, composer and lyricist of Diafana Krina (Diaphanous Lillies), a group of musicians who gave a breath of life to the greek rock scene from 1991 to 2009. The band had lots of fans both in Greece and abroad. I have been and will always be a huge fan of the band especially because their velvety music managed to bring poetry back in the spotlight. What they did was important and pioneering under the circumstances in the greek rock scene. To give our non speaking readers an analogy of their music, my humble opinion is they were similar to The Tindersticks.
Diafana Krina with Thanos's expressive voice on vocals, managed to liven up images from the darkness of the psyche into the light of our daily existence. They made our shadows come alive to walk among us, to reconcile and be our friends eventually. Their music accompanied our romances, our worries from the past and it is still capable of accompanying the future too. Do not fool yourselves from their melancholic and pessimistic compositions because their music doesn't promote resignation. On the contrary, it offers consolation and the will to fight back. It is a fact that Diafana Krina as well as Thanos Anestopoulos being a solo artist have participated in numerous antifascist and antiracist events and demonstrations in favour of immigrants, refugees, etc.
I've been witness to lots of their performances, the first of which was at the "Bar Ton Asomaton" in Thisseion, Athens, or their performance in the first Rockwave Festival of Athens in 1996 which took place in the Rizoupoli football court along with Flowers Of Romance, Love In Sadness, New Model Army and The Sisters Of Mercy. An unforgettable live was at Gagarin 205, especially near the end of their performance as they were jamming on a 30 min version of one of their songs called "Mple Heimonas" [Blue Winter]. Apparently it was pretty late and the fans started to leave the venue. Then Thanos urged them to return until the performance was finished.
Farewell Thanos, thank you for giving us your heart and soul and for being one of us. You left us with your voice, your music and poetry to remember you.

Οι Mushrooms ανήκουν στα συγκροτήματα για τα οποία μπορεί κανείς να βρεί πλείστες πληροφορίες στο διαδίκτυο. Πολλά μουσικά blog έχουν ήδη αναφερθεί σε αυτή την θρυλική garage rock μπάντα, εμείς όμως δεν κάνουμε την ανάρτηση για να προσθέσουμε κάτι καινούργιο, απλά καταγράφουμε την άποψη μας για τη μουσική τους. Ειλικρινά το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ θα μπορούσε και θα έπρεπε να ήταν στις πρώτες αναρτήσεις μας το 2010. Δεν είμαστε σίγουροι γιατί έμεινε απέξω, όμως κάποια στιγμή συνειδητοποιήσαμε πως η μουσική τους ήδη λατρευόταν από χιλιάδες οπαδούς. Οπαδοί τους και εμείς, πιστεύουμε πως τώρα είναι η στιγμή να αναρτήσουμε τον πρώτο τους δίσκο με τίτλο "Taste Of ..." που πρωτοκυκλοφόρησε το 1986 για να ανανεώσουμε το ενδιαφέρον των παλιών οπαδών του group και να μυήσουμε νέους οπαδούς παγκοσμίως.
Οι Mushrooms λοιπόν ήταν ένα πολλά υποσχόμενο Θεσσαλονικιώτικο σχήμα που κυκλοφόρησε δύο ολοκληρωμένους δίσκους και μερικά τραγούδια σε συλλογές όπως η "Cicadas (An Electric Guide To The Greek Underground)". Παρεπιπτόντως, στο blog των urban aspirines θα βρείτε και το "Scarecrow Princes" το δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Mushrooms. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από το ένθετο του "Taste Of ..." το συγκρότημα απαρτιζόταν από τους Purple Jelly ή Pluto (Γιώργο Αντωνιάδη) στα φωνητικά και τους στίχους, τους Ασκληπιό (Ασκληπιό Ζαμπέτα) και Grandfather (Γιώργο Κυριάκο) στις κιθάρες και τα δεύτερα φωνητικά, τον Tripmaker (Κώστα Τρυψάνη) στο μπάσσο και τέλος τον Atmas (Γιώργο Ατματζίδη) στα τύμπανα. Μη νομίσετε όμως πως οι παραπάνω μουσικοί ήταν άπειροι, αφού είναι γεγονός πως πριν από τους Mushrooms είχαν ήδη θητεύσει σε σχήματα όπως οι International Comedy, Silent Moves, κ.α. Με τη διάλυση των Mushrooms κατά το 1991, τα περισσότερα μέλη προχώρησαν σε νέες μουσικές συνεργασίες. Δυστυχώς ο τραγουδιστής-στιχουργός Γιώργος Αντωνιάδης που είχε χρόνιο πρόβλημα με τα ναρκωτικά πέθανε από υπερβολική δόση το 2004.
Ακούγοντας προσεκτικά το "Taste Of ..." συνειδητοποιεί κανείς πως συνδυάζει ποικιλόμορφα στυλ και επιρροές σε μόλις δέκα αυθεντικά garage rock τραγούδια, κάποια από αυτά με ψυχεδελική θεματολογία (π.χ. "Child Of The Tide", "Yard Of My Head"). Η μουσική τους έχει διαχρονική απόχρωση και αποπνέει τη φρεσκάδα του καινούργιου ακόμη και σήμερα αφού βρίθει από καταπληκτικές ιδέες που διαποτίζουν ολόκληρο το άλμπουμ με ενέργεια και πάθος. Επιπλέον διαβάστε και τους στίχους του Γιώργου Αντωνιάδη όπου ενώ υπάρχει η αναμενόμενη ψυχεδελική θεματολογία, τα περισσότερα τραγούδια μιλούν και για το (υποκριτικό) ήθος της κοινωνίας, την μοναξιά και την αποξένωση. ENG: The Mushrooms are a band about which you can find a lot on the web. Several music blogs have already mentioned this legendary Greek garage rock band, yet we're not adding anything new but our own perspective on their music. Honestly, their first album should have been one of our first posts back in 2010. For what reason we left it aside we can't really say now, but at some point we realised that The Mushrooms' two albums had already been celebrated by thousands of fans. We ourselves love their music too, so we think that the present could be the time to bring a new rip of their first LP "Taste Of ..." that was released in 1986 and in this way we renew the interest of old fans and initiate new fans worldwide.
The Mushrooms were a promising garage rock band from Thessaloniki, Greece and survived enough to deliver two full LPs and a few songs scattered among various artists compilations such as "Cicadas (An Electric Guide To The Greek Underground)". In the same blog you'll find "Scarecrow Princes", the band's second LP too. As noted on the first album's inner sleeve, the band consisted of Purple Jelly/Pluto (Giorgos Antoniadis) on vocals and lyrics, Asklipios (Asklipios Zampetas) and Grandfather (Giorgos Kyriakos) on guitars and backing vocals, Tripmaker (Kostas Trypsanis) on bass and finally Atmas (Giorgos Atmatzidis) on drums. Do not concider the aforementioned musicians to be amateurs because by the time they assembled The Mushrooms, they had already been members of other known bands like International Comedy and Silent Moves among few. After The Mushrooms' demise in 1991 they went on to form new or join existing bands. Unfortunately, the singer Giorgos Antoniadis who had chronic drug abuse issues died in 2004.
Upon listening to the "Taste Of ..." it really grabs you because it combines several music styles and influences into ten original and authentic garage-driven songs, few of which deal with psychedelic themes (e.g. "Child Of The Tide", "Yard Of My Head"). The music sounds fresh even today and the songs are all-time classics with great ideas that permeate the album throughout, vibrating with energy and passion. Additionally, the lyrics written by Giorgos Antoniadis (Purple Jelly/Pluto) are worth mentioning too. Besides the expected psychedelic-related themes, the songs speak of the (hypocritical) morals, loneliness and alienation. We believe that most of you will relate to their ideas and love their music if you haven't done so already! Enjoy The Mushrooms!

Sativa Luv Box: The Bad Sleep Well LP 1989, Splat-Co Records

Χωρίς την ακούραστη συνεισφορά του Unspeakable, αυτό το blog θα ήταν σίγουρα φτωχότερο. Ένα από πιο πρόσφατα που μάς έστειλε ήταν το άλμπουμ "Bad Sleep Well" του 1989 από τους Sativa Luv Box. Αυτό το Καλιφορνέζικο σχήμα με το παράξενο όνομα δημιουργήθηκε από τον μουσικό (τραγουδιστή και κιθαρίστα) Patrick Mata μετά την διάλυση των Kommunity FK. Λέγεται πως Sativa ήταν και το όνομα της κοπέλας του Mata εκείνο τον καιρό. Οι Sativa Luv Box συχνά χαρακτηρίζονται ως acid-punk, κατά κάποιο τρόπο ψυχεδελικό punk σχήμα. Πράγματι, η μουσική τους έχει αναφορές σε punk, psychedelic rock, hard rock, ακόμα και glam rock γενικά της δεκαετίας του '70.

Ας πούμε λοιπόν ότι υπάρχει κάτι από όλα: ένα μείγμα από το παλιό και το καινούργιο, από όπου αναδύεται μια αίσθηση οικειότητας όσον αφορά τον ήχο τους συνολικά. Φυσικά υπάρχει μεγάλη απόκλιση από ο,τιδήποτε θα μπορούσε να θυμίζει τους Kommunity FK, καθώς οι S.L.B. δεν ακούγονται σαν καμία άλλη σύγχρονή τους μπάντα. Όντες ανοιχτόμυαλοι δεν έμειναν προσηλωμένοι σε κάποιο συγκεκριμένο ύφος, πράγμα που μας κάνει να τους αποδίδουμε σεβασμό. Ακούγοντας το άλμπουμ ίσως να τα αναρωτιέστε και εσείς αυτά. Πιστεύουμε πως πρέπει να τους ακούσετε χαλαρά και να μην τους παρεξηγήσετε. Είναι ενα παράξενο άλμπουμ που οπωσδήποτε θα απολαύσετε.

ENG: If it wasn't for The Unspeakable's tireless supply, the blog wouldn't have as much to offer. One of the vinyl-rips he's sent us recently, is Sativa Luv Box's 1989 LP entitled "Bad Sleep Well". The peculiar named California band was created in Los Angeles, U.S., by the vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mata after the demise of Kommunity FK. Rumor has it that Sativa was the name of Mata's girlfriend at that time. Sativa Luvbox are often portrayed as an acid-punk group, sort of a psychedelic act. In fact, their music style is based on punk, psychedelic rock, hard rock, glam rock and generally 70's rock music references.  Similarly, there's some of everything; a mixture of the old and the new, but altogether there's a deep sense of familiarity with their sound. They are much diverse than Kommunity FK, and it seems that Patrick Mata and his gang were trying hard not to sound like any other contemporary act. They spread out to a wide range of styles without any solid dedication to genres; that's why we respect them. Upon listening to "Bad Sleep Well" you may find yourselves pondering all that. We think you should just take it easy and don't get them wrong. It's an odd one that you'll definitely enjoy.

Din: Great Tradition mLP 1983, High Velocity

Η καθυστερημένη αυτή ανάρτηση αναφέρεται σε ένα Αμερικάνικο συγκρότημα που ονομάζεται Din με καταγωγή από την περιοχή Orange County της California. Κατά τη δεκαετία του 80 έβγαλαν δύο δίσκους από τους οποίους εμείς σήμερα αναρτούμε τον πρώτο με τον τίτλο "Great Tradition", που είναι στην πραγματικότητα mini LP. Θα ήταν χρήσιμο να δείτε και αυτή τη σελίδα με αρκετές πληροφορίες για την ιστορία των Din, όπου και περιγράφονται ως ένα σχήμα που έπαιζε ska-punk. Το συγκρότημα διέλυσε σχεδόν μετά την κυκλοφορία του δεύτερου (και περιπετειώδους) δίσκου, όμως μόλις πριν λίγα χρόνια αποφάσισαν να επανασυνδεθούν και να δώσουν νέα πνοή με την κυκλοφορία καινούργιου υλικού.
Η αλήθεια είναι πως στο πρώτο άκουσμα του  "Great Tradition" μας φάνηκε αρκετά new wave, αλλά με το δεύτερο άκουσμα βρήκαμε και κάποιες post punk αποχρώσεις. Προφανώς ο ήχος των πνευστών (σαξόφωνο) δίνει αυτή την ska-punk χροιά. Όπως και νά'χει αυτό το mini LP περιέχει αρκετά αξιόλογα κομμάτια όπως το ομότιτλο "Great Tradition" ή και το "Man & Woman". Ελπίζουμε πως θα το αξιολογήσετε με τα δικά σας κριτήρια. Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: This delayed post deals with a U.S. band called Din from Orange County, California. Back in the 80's they released two albums, the first of which we're posting today entitled "Great Tradition", which is a mini LP actually. You may want to check thegoldminemag webpage that features an detailed article on the band's story and describes them as a "ska-punk rock" band. Even though they had disbanded in the 80's, only a few years ago they decided to regroup and release new material.
To be honest when listening to the "Great Tradition" mLP, it sounded more new-wavish, but upon second listening, there was  a more post punk feel. Apparently, the brass sounds (saxophone) adds the ska feel throughout the record. Anyway, the mini LP contains a few notable songs such as the same titled "Great Tradition" or "Man & Woman". We hope you like it and enjoy listening to it.
