Staff threatened during armed robbery at a Smithfield service station in the northern suburbs

STAFF members have been threatened by a man with a weapon during a robbery at a northern suburbs service station overnight.

Just before 2.50am, police were dispatched to the Main North Rd service station in Smithfield after receiving reports that a man armed with a sharp, pointed weapon had entered the store and threatened staff.

The offender verbally threatened two staff members before jumping the counter, stealing money from the cash register and running off.

No one was physically injured during the robbery.

Police searched the area but were unable to located the suspect.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, wearing gloves, a dark-coloured hooded jumper and a bandana over his face.
