Newspapers

The State Library of South Australia has the largest collection of the state's newspapers from 1836 to the present. In many cases there are no other copies of these newspapers in existence. Visit SA Memory to read the history of newspapers in South Australia.

The Library holds all major Australian newspapers from their earliest issues, usually in microfilm format, as well as major overseas newspapers of record, also on microfilm. The latest issues of newspapers from around the world, in a variety of languages are held in the Ron Boland Newspaper Reading area on level 1 Spence Wing.

To find newspapers in the Library catalogue, select Magazines, journals and newspapers from the drop-down View entire collection box.

Help Us

The State Library contributes to the Australian Newspaper Plan which is an ongoing project aiming to collect and preserve every newspaper published in Australia guaranteeing public access to them.

You can contribute to the Plan's Search and Rescue campaign in locating the nation's missing newspapers.
