Accessibility

We aim to make visiting BATS as easy as possible for everyone. If you need support with access, audio, visual needs, or with reserving an easy access seat in the theatre we encourage you to contact us prior to your visit and discuss your individual needs with our friendly Box Office team.

You can email the BATS Box Office on book@bats.co.nz or call 04 802 4175.

Our three performance spaces have different access

The Propeller Stage on the ground floor
The ground floor at BATS is fully wheelchair accessible with a ramp at the north end of the building, which provides direct access to the foyer and bar area, and a wheelchair accessible Box Office counter and bathroom on the ground floor. The Propeller Stage is located on the ground floor.

The Heyday Dome on the first floor
The Heyday Dome is located on the first floor of the venue with two sets of stairs required to access the space. If the show you are attending is in The Dome you will need to arrive 45 minutes prior to the start time.

The Studio on the top floor
The Studio is located on the top floor of the building and takes some time to reach using the stairclimber. Due to the fact that we have multiple shows per night, and the extended time required to reach The Studio, we will need to work closely with you to arrange a suitable arrival time so we can ensure we can make the process as smooth as possible.

Wheelchair Access & The Stairclimber

BATS has a stairclimber machine and we prefer that wheelchair users make use of this device when ascending or descending the stairs. BATS staff are trained in operating the device but to ensure two trained staff are available to assist you on your visit, please provide 24 hours notice.

How the Stairclimber works
Your wheelchair attaches to the stair climber which is then operated by two BATS staff to ensure a safe and comfortable journey. The combined person and wheelchair weight restriction for the stair climber is 150kgs, so if you have a motorised wheelchair you may need to transfer to the manual wheelchair that BATS can provide.

Other arrangements for ascending and descending the stairs require approval with the BATS team to ensure health and safety requirements are met. If you intend to make your own arrangements please contact us in advance so we can understand and work with you to try and accommodate them.

Audio
BATS does not have a hearing loop installed but in some cases we are able to provide scripts of the work being performed. If you wish to have a script of the production we recommend you get in contact with us seven days prior to your attendance so that we can ascertain availability from the show.

Vision
If you are vision impaired you are welcome to request assistance from our friendly Box Office staff.

Service Animals
If you have service animal you are welcome to bring them along with you.

Support Person
BATS offers concession prices to your support person, just notify the Box Office of the support person’s role.
