Everything might be shut down, our mosques might be closed, but we prioritize each other and we place our hope and fears with Allah. Ibadah’ orients the heart and nourishes us for the days to come, and for the duties we must fulfill towards others. Tawakkul asks no less.

No time to tolerate incompetency and utterly pathetic attitudes towards preserving life. No faith in leaders who have no concern for the well-being of their people and sow constant fear.

The recent Delhi pogrom - Muslims set on fire, their bodies thrown in sewage drains - and incompetent leaders in the bloody aftermath have left thousands in relief camps. Now they face a pandemic.

We - in our quarantine - begin to glimpse what restriction of movement and curfews feel like, but with the promise of benefit and an end. Imagine them imposed by cruel regimes, or being rendered stateless - the degree of corruption, treated as lesser than beasts.

May Allah forgive inaction. At the very least, make fierce dua for the people of Syria, Uyghurs, the Rohingya, Kashmiris, Palestinians, and more who are caged in, facing nightmare conditions. If the virus hasn’t already spread to them imagine the destruction if (when?) it does.
