SUMMARY: India won by 75 runs

Well it was a great Test match which swung this way and that, but in the end a comprehensive win for the home side, Australia not even getting near a modest target of 188, wickets falling steadily at the top of the order then in an almighty rush at the end. In fact, 16 wickets fell for the day on a pitch that seemed to deteriorate very quickly. Australia looked set to make it 2-0 when Josh Hazlewood and Mitch Starc ripped through the India batting, Hazlewood finishing with 6/67, but in the end the 118-run partnership between Pujara and Rahane proved the difference. Australia looked comfortable with Dave Warner and Steve Smith at the crease, but first paceman Yadav and then spinner Ashwin sparked a collapse of epic proportions, the Aussies losing 6/11 from the time Mitch Marsh was out shortly before tea. With a near 100-run lead on the first innings, Australia would have been expecting a much better result than this, and any confidence India lost in Pune has been well and truly restored now. And it's set up what should be an enthralling final two Test matches, with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy still on the line. WICKET!

That's it! India win by 75 runs. Ashwin finishes with six wickets as Lyon drives one straight back to the bowler! Absolute carnage at the end there, Australia lost 6/11 after looking very well-placed in a chase for a very gettable 188.

Now Handscomb's gone, and with him, all hope. Loses patience and tries to hoik Ashwin down the ground. Gets a massive edge straight up in the air, and keeper Saha camps underneath it and takes the catch comfortably. Just one to go now. Australia has lost 5/9 in a pretty insipid collapse.

WICKET!

And now he gets a scalp! O'Keefe is bowled, another delivery which keeps very low and sneaks under the batsman's defences. It's 8/110, still 78 required, Nathan Lyon to the crease and India looking likely to wrap this up pretty quickly.

Surviving

The runs have dried to a trickle, but O'Keefe and Handscomb remain defiant, the target now down to 78. And a bowling change again, Jadeja to replace Yadav. Into his eighth over now, has conceded only three runs.

O'Keefe to face the music

More good bowling from Yadav, a maiden to Handscomb puts O'Keefe on strike to Ashwin. He gets a single straight away, though, and Handscomb takes another, plenty of faith in the tailender's ability.

WICKET!

Starc's gone! Bowled through the gate by Ashwin, takes off stump, and that might be Australia's hopes done and dusted right there. Just three wickets to get for India, Steve O'Keefe is the new batsman.

Yadav again

Starc survives that delivery from Ashwin, it's Yadav again, has bowled well today, taking two big wickets. Handscomb deflects a single to third man. Now Starc's off the mark with a single to mid-wicket. Rest of the over is seen off, Australia 6/103, 85 required.

Final session

India on top now and going for jugular. But Handscomb is still there, and Mitch Starc has for a long time now provided valuable runs down the order. Can they pull it off the Aussies still? Let's find out. Starc has one ball left in this successful Ashwin over, Let's play....

what a shot!

TEA: Australia 6/101 (need 87 runs to win)

Unbearable tension in that session, with fortunes twisting this way and that, but India now firmly on top, removing Mitch Marsh and then Matt Wade with the last ball before tea. Yadav and Ashwin have taken some big scalps, with none bigger than Warner and Smith, both of whom looked set before getting out. Even after they departed, Mitch Marsh and Peter Handscomb were looking good, the target under 100 with six wickets in hand. But Ashwin struck with a wicket in each of his last two overs before the break. So India need just four wickets, Australia another 87 runs, Handscomb the last recognised batsman. We'll see you shortly for the final session.

WICKET!

Wade's gone, right on tea! Ashwin strikes again, big edge from Wade on to his pad, it bobs up in front of him and Saha races around from behind the stumps to take a great diving catch! Those last couple of minutes before the break might just have decided this match!

WICKET!

Marsh is gone! Bit of bounce for Ashwin, it's glove on to thigh pad and into the hands of Nair at short-leg. Dare we say that happened with - you guessed it - 87 runs required. Oh boy, is this going down to the wire. 87 runs to get, five wickets left, three minutes until tea.

Ashwin back on

Replacing Jadeja, Handscomb flicks him away to leg for a couple, and that brings up the 100, 88 more runs to get now.

And again!

Marsh just dabs at Sharma, it goes along the ground past slips down to third man for another four. This pair have added 24 in even time, refusing to be shackled even with the tension so unbearable.

Marsh again!

Fantastic straight drive! Races past the stumps and the despairing man at mid-on for another four! Australia 4/94.
