In what's become an annual tradition for the club, the 2016 MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC unveiled a new uniform combination on Thursday.

The new white "Heritage" kit "celebrates the new heights achieved by Sounders FC in 2016 while hearkening back to the club's origins and proud soccer history," according to a release from the team. The redesigned secondary uniforms come a year after the team introduced a "Pacific blue" third kit that paid homage to the club's decade-long run in the old North American Soccer League.

Features of the new white kit include a polo collar, a throwback crest from the NASL Seattle Sounders on the back of the neck and a jock tag that reads "Born in 74" in reference to the team's first year in Seattle. The jerseys also follow the soccer tradition of honoring a major title, with a gold star and the number "16" emblazoned above the team's crest in honor of the 2016 championship run.

The team will continue to wear it's "Rave Green" uniforms as its primary kit, with the Pacific Blue combo as the third option.

The Sounders faces Columbus Crew SC on Saturday in their final match of 2017 preseason as part of the Carolina Challenge Cup in South Carolina. Playing mostly subs, Seattle lost a 4-2 decision to the expansion Atlanta United FC on Wednesday.

The Sounders kick off their MLS Cup title defense on Saturday, March 4 with a road test versus the Houston Dynamo.
