News reports emerged Tuesday indicating the confessed shooter outside a lecture by a Breitbart News editor at the University of Washington on Inauguration Day is an enrolled student at the college.

The same student reporter wrote in both the UW Daily and South Seattle Emerald that UW Police Major Steve Rittereiser claimed -- in an apparent slip-up -- that "the Student Conduct Code office has been notified" about the incident.

The victim's attorney confirmed that the protestor shot was not a student, leaving the 29-year-old shooter as the only other party that could be affected by the Student Conduct Code, the reports say.

The shooting occurred during a Red Square scuffle outside Kane Hall, where conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos was speaking to a handful of ticket holders before police blocked entry for the rest of the hopeful attendees amid anti-Donald Trump and anti-Yiannopoulos protests.

The shooter, who has not been charged with a crime, reportedly fired at a protester for Industrial Workers of the World during the heated exchanges among pro- and anti-Yiannopoulos camps.

The IWW and General Defense Committee, on behalf of the 34-year-old victim, claimed that the protester was there to oppose Yiannopoulos's hate speech and de-escalate confrontations.

The victim was shot in the abdomen and admitted to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. The Daily reports that he has been in and out of intensive care and has undergone several surgeries.

The shooter turned himself in later that night, but was released after claiming self-defense. Authorities continue to investigate the matter.

The victim has expressed wishes that the shooter not be charged.

Carrying a firearm onto the UW campus is reportedly against school rules, but not state law. If the case was indeed referred to the  Community Standards and Student Conduct office, an administrative investigation into the incident will occur parallel to the criminal inquiry.
