Staying motivated and exited about your business and life is a something that eludes far too many people today. Our homes are bigger, we have more cars, we have more stuff and we have more choice – yet studies reveal depression is up to ten times more common than it was 50 years ago.

We’ve all heard the adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” but rest assured this adage holds much truth. Studies reveal that human beings process visuals 60,000 times faster than text. This is precisely why social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest are dominated by visuals.
People today are busy and distracted. As sales professionals, we have seconds compared to minutes to convey a compelling message that will help people make a decision that is in their best interest. And visuals – but not just any visuals as I will explain - allow us to do just this.
I’ve seen thousands of beautifully designed listing presentations and thousands of not so beautiful listing presentations – both with equal ineffectiveness. This is the first point I want to make -- beauty alone will not transform your listing presentation results.
Incorporating charts, graphs and high quality images into your presentation will help you communicate a message in far less time than text and even a conversation.
However to harness the real power of visuals which is to influence and help people make a decision – you need to incorporate contrasting or comparative visuals that tell a compelling, almost shocking, story.
Instead of telling them how many more homes you’ve sold than the average real estate agent: show them.
Instead of telling them that you sell 95% of your listings– compare this to the board average so they have a perspective of what that really means.
Instead of just saying that staging is important to getting a home sold, show them visual, and an example.

In the absence of clearly communicated value, commission will almost always be an issue. Learning to communicate your value to potential buyers and sellers has never been more crucial to your bottom line. Here are 5 steps designed to make the negotiation process easier and more successful.
Step 1
Pre-Qualify. Always, always, always prequalify your leads. Ask questions like: Where are you moving to? When would you like to be moved by? May I ask, why you are moving? The answers to these simple questions will reveal motivation so you can stop spending time with unmotivated prospects before you start.
Step 2
Start Delivering Value Before You Meet. What you do before you meet potential buyers and sellers is equally as important as the presentation you perform in person when it comes to the negotiation process. The process of clearly communicating your value begins the moment you speak. If you set an appointment, send a thank you note and consider sending an Informed Sellers Guide by courier to begin the education process while delivering value at the same time. Confirm your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to bring confidence to your potential new clients.
Step 3
Use Facts and Stats. Statistical based data is a black and white way to communicate your value, and one of the most successful, in my opinion. Remember, the secret to this idea is “don’t tell them what you can show them.” Most sellers and buyers have no idea how many homes the average agent sells, how long a home is usually on the market or what percentage of homes listed actually sell. Compare the current market averages to your stats or your company’s stats to clearly set yourself apart. Teaching your potential buyers and sellers something they didn’t know is one the most effective value-based communication tools you can use.
Step 4
Professionally handle the objection. This one is unavoidable. You must handle the objection when it comes to commission. There will always be people who ask you to reduce your commission. Be confident in yourself and the value that you bring to the table. This is another area where statistics are a great resource. Use the market stats to dollarize your negotiating expertise. For example, perhaps your listings are selling for 99% of list price vs. the market average of 96% This means you are negotiating 2% more than the market average for your sellers which translate to thousands of more dollars to their bottom line. Powerful information.
Step 5
Don’t Be Attached to the Outcome. Give every appointment 100% of you and at the end of each one, be proud of what you accomplished. Whether you get the listing or not, have confidence in your process and learn from every experience.

My daughter, Jaimie, started a blog (www.addalittlepolish.com) in January 2013 all about nail polish and committed to blogging every day for an entire year. Why nail polish? Because she loves every thing about it.
Well, Jaimie blogged every day. At first she had a few hundred readers but it wasn't really growing.
But she stayed in the game.
Then, in September traffic spiked to 3,116 views. In October it went to 5,792 and in November she had 7,480 views.
What did she do right? She finished.
A lot of people are great starters but they start too much. Jaimie started with one thing and she stuck with it.
So, pick just one thing for 2014 and then choose to finish it and then celebrate the results at the end of the year.

The Remains of the Day
The Remains of the Day (1989) is Kazuo Ishiguro's third published novel. The work was awarded the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1989. A film adaptation of the novel, made in 1993 and starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, was nominated for eight Academy Awards.
As in Ishiguro's two previous novels, the story is told from a first person point of view. The narrator, Stevens, a butler, recalls his life in the form of a diary while the action progresses through the present. Much of the novel is concerned with Stevens' professional and, above all, personal relationship with a former colleague, the housekeeper Miss Kenton.
Plot summary
The Remains of the Day tells, in first person, the story of Stevens, an English butler who has dedicated his life to the loyal service of Lord Darlington (mentioned in increasing detail in flashbacks). The novel begins with Stevens receiving a letter from a former colleague, Miss Kenton, describing her married life, which he believes hints at an unhappy marriage. The letter's receipt coincides with Stevens' having the opportunity to revisit this once-cherished relationship, if only under the guise of investigating the possibility of re-employment. Stevens' new employer, a wealthy American named Mr Farraday, encourages Stevens to borrow his car to take a well-earned break, a "motoring trip". As he sets out, Stevens has the opportunity to reflect on his immutable loyalty to Lord Darlington, on the meaning of the term "dignity", and even on his relationship with his late father. Ultimately, Stevens is forced to ponder the true nature of his relationship with Miss Kenton. As the book progresses, increasing evidence of Miss Kenton's one-time love for Stevens, and of his for her, is revealed.

My daughter, Jaimie, started a blog (www.addalittlepolish.com) in January 2013 all about nail polish and committed to blogging every day for an entire year. Why nail polish? Because she loves every thing about it. Well, Jaimie blogged every day. At first she had a few hundred readers but it wasn't really growing. But she stayed in the game. Then, in September traffic spiked to 3,116 views. In October it went to 5,792 and in November she had 7,480 views. What did she do right? She finished. A lot of people are great starters but they start too much. Jaimie started with one thing and she stuck with it. So, pick just one thing for 2014 and then choose to finish it and then celebrate the results at the end of the year.

Incorporating charts, graphs and high quality images into your presentation will help you communicate a message in far less time than text and even a conversation.
However to harness the real power of visuals which is to influence and help people make a decision – you need to incorporate contrasting or comparative visuals that tell a compelling, almost shocking, story.
Instead of telling them how many more homes you’ve sold than the average real estate agent: show them.
Instead of telling them that you sell 95% of your listings– compare this to the board average so they have a perspective of what that really means.
Instead of just saying that staging is important to getting a home sold, show them visual, and an example.

In the absence of clearly communicated value, commission will almost always be an issue. Learning to communicate your value to potential buyers and sellers has never been more crucial to your bottom line. Here are 5 steps designed to make the negotiation process easier and more successful.
Step 1
Pre-Qualify. Always, always, always prequalify your leads. Ask questions like: Where are you moving to? When would you like to be moved by? May I ask, why you are moving? The answers to these simple questions will reveal motivation so you can stop spending time with unmotivated prospects before you start.
Step 2
Start Delivering Value Before You Meet. What you do before you meet potential buyers and sellers is equally as important as the presentation you perform in person when it comes to the negotiation process. The process of clearly communicating your value begins the moment you speak. If you set an appointment, send a thank you note and consider sending an Informed Sellers Guide by courier to begin the education process while delivering value at the same time. Confirm your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to bring confidence to your potential new clients.
Step 3
Use Facts and Stats. Statistical based data is a black and white way to communicate your value, and one of the most successful, in my opinion. Remember, the secret to this idea is “don’t tell them what you can show them.” Most sellers and buyers have no idea how many homes the average agent sells, how long a home is usually on the market or what percentage of homes listed actually sell. Compare the current market averages to your stats or your company’s stats to clearly set yourself apart. Teaching your potential buyers and sellers something they didn’t know is one the most effective value-based communication tools you can use.
Step 4
Professionally handle the objection. This one is unavoidable. You must handle the objection when it comes to commission. There will always be people who ask you to reduce your commission. Be confident in yourself and the value that you bring to the table. This is another area where statistics are a great resource. Use the market stats to dollarize your negotiating expertise. For example, perhaps your listings are selling for 99% of list price vs. the market average of 96% This means you are negotiating 2% more than the market average for your sellers which translate to thousands of more dollars to their bottom line. Surviving Picasso is a 1996 Merchant Ivory Film starring Anthony Hopkins as the famous painter Pablo Picasso. It was shot in Paris and southern France.
Directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant and David L. Wolper. Screenplay by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala loosely based on the biography Picasso: Creator and Destroyer by Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington.
The film starts with Françoise meeting Picasso in Paris during the German occupation of the city, where Picasso is complaining that people broke into his house and stole his linen, rather than his paintings. It shows Françoise being beaten by her father after telling him she wants to be a painter, rather than a lawyer. Picasso is shown as often not caring about other people's feelings, firing his driver after a long period of service, and as a womanizer, saying that he can sleep with whomever he wants.
The film is seen through the eyes of his lover Françoise Gilot (Natascha McElhone). Because the producers were unable to get permission (as usual) to show the works of Picasso in the film, the film is more about Picasso's personal life rather than his works, and where it does show paintings, they are not of his more famous works. When Picasso is shown painting Guernica, the camera sits high above the painting, with the work only slightly visible.
The film depicts several of the women who were important in Picasso's life, such as Olga Picasso (played by Jane Lapotaire), Dora Maar (played by Julianne Moore), Marie-Thérèse Walter (played by Susannah Harker), and Jacqueline Roque (played by Diane Venora).

I was 24 when I started in real estate and I thought I knew everything. I quickly discovered I knew very little. Luckily, I was very fortunate to be invited into a group with six local business people who met every Friday to talk about business. These people inspired me because they were doing more than me. The more I was around them, the more possibility I saw for myself.
Another big influencer has been books. Biographies and non-fiction books have motivated me to think bigger and have changed and broadened my thinking on so many things.
If you have the ability to change your thoughts, you have the ability to change your life.
So, connect with people who are thinking big, people who want to help you grow and who will cheer you on. Read books in hard cover, on your tablet or listen to audio books while you're driving. Always be ready to be influenced by more positive things.
Get around great people and read great books and it WILL change your life.

What I Learned From My 21-Year-Old Daughter | Richard Robbins
My daughter, Jaimie, started a blog (www.addalittlepolish.com) in January 2013 all about nail polish and committed to blogging every day for an entire year. Why nail polish? Because she loves every thing about it. Well, Jaimie blogged every day. At first she had a few hundred readers but it wasn't really growing. But she stayed in the game. Then, in September traffic spiked to 3,116 views. In October it went to 5,792 and in November she had 7,480 views. What did she do right? She finished. A lot of people are great starters but they start too much. Jaimie started with one thing and she stuck with it. So, pick just one thing for 2014 and then choose to finish it and then celebrate the results at the end of the year.

I’ve seen thousands of beautifully designed listing presentations and thousands of not so beautiful listing presentations – both with equal ineffectiveness. This is the first point I want to make -- beauty alone will not transform your listing presentation results.
Incorporating charts, graphs and high quality images into your presentation will help you communicate a message in far less time than text and even a conversation.
However to harness the real power of visuals which is to influence and help people make a decision – you need to incorporate contrasting or comparative visuals that tell a compelling, almost shocking, story.
Instead of telling them how many more homes you’ve sold than the average real estate agent: show them.
Instead of telling them that you sell 95% of your listings– compare this to the board average so they have a perspective of what that really means.
Instead of just saying that staging is important to getting a home sold, show them visual, and an example.

In the absence of clearly communicated value, commission will almost always be an issue. Learning to communicate your value to potential buyers and sellers has never been more crucial to your bottom line. Here are 5 steps designed to make the negotiation process easier and more successful.
Step 1
Pre-Qualify. Always, always, always prequalify your leads. Ask questions like: Where are you moving to? When would you like to be moved by? May I ask, why you are moving? The answers to these simple questions will reveal motivation so you can stop spending time with unmotivated prospects before you start.
Step 2
Start Delivering Value Before You Meet. What you do before you meet potential buyers and sellers is equally as important as the presentation you perform in person when it comes to the negotiation process. The process of clearly communicating your value begins the moment you speak. If you set an appointment, send a thank you note and consider sending an Informed Sellers Guide by courier to begin the education process while delivering value at the same time. Confirm your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to bring confidence to your potential new clients.
Step 3
Use Facts and Stats. Statistical based data is a black and white way to communicate your value, and one of the most successful, in my opinion. Remember, the secret to this idea is “don’t tell them what you can show them.” Most sellers and buyers have no idea how many homes the average agent sells, how long a home is usually on the market or what percentage of homes listed actually sell. Compare the current market averages to your stats or your company’s stats to clearly set yourself apart. Teaching your potential buyers and sellers something they didn’t know is one the most effective value-based communication tools you can use.
Step 4
Professionally handle the objection. This one is unavoidable. You must handle the objection when it comes to commission. There will always be people who ask you to reduce your commission. Be confident in yourself and the value that you bring to the table. This is another area where statistics are a great resource. Use the market stats to dollarize your negotiating expertise. For example, perhaps your listings are selling for 99% of list price vs. the market average of 96% This means you are negotiating 2% more than the market average for your sellers which translate to thousands of more dollars to their bottom line. Powerful information.
Step 5
Don’t Be Attached to the Outcome. Give every appointment 100% of you and at the end of each one, be proud of what you accomplished. Whether you get the listing or not, have confidence in your process and learn from every experience.

The film starts with Françoise meeting Picasso in Paris during the German occupation of the city, where Picasso is complaining that people broke into his house and stole his linen, rather than his paintings. It shows Françoise being beaten by her father after telling him she wants to be a painter, rather than a lawyer. Picasso is shown as often not caring about other people's feelings, firing his driver after a long period of service, and as a womanizer, saying that he can sleep with whomever he wants.
The film is seen through the eyes of his lover Françoise Gilot (Natascha McElhone). Because the producers were unable to get permission (as usual) to show the works of Picasso in the film, the film is more about Picasso's personal life rather than his works, and where it does show paintings, they are not of his more famous works. When Picasso is shown painting Guernica, the camera sits high above the painting, with the work only slightly visible.
The film depicts several of the women who were important in Picasso's life, such as Olga Picasso (played by Jane Lapotaire), Dora Maar (played by Julianne Moore), Marie-Thérèse Walter (played by Susannah Harker), and Jacqueline Roque (played by Diane Venora).

Luckily, I was very fortunate to be invited into a group with six local business people who met every Friday to talk about business. These people inspired me because they were doing more than me. The more I was around them, the more possibility I saw for myself.
Another big influencer has been books. Biographies and non-fiction books have motivated me to think bigger and have changed and broadened my thinking on so many things.
If you have the ability to change your thoughts, you have the ability to change your life.
So, connect with people who are thinking big, people who want to help you grow and who will cheer you on. Read books in hard cover, on your tablet or listen to audio books while you're driving. Always be ready to be influenced by more positive things.

Tony Robbins: STAY HUNGRY (Tony Robbins Motivation)
"The best entrepreneurs on earth never lose that hunger--they are hungry to grow, hungry to give, hungry to contribute," Robbins says. "It's more important than intelligence. There's nothing that will stop a person who is hungry enough. A hungry person, failure doesn't stop them."
Tony would absolutely agree that strategies are important. But the best strategies stem from something greater. According to Tony, there wasn’t one strategy or practice that all successful people shared; it was a certain mindset that they all had in common. They were always hungry.
“Most people are hungry to achieve a certain amount, and then they get comfortable and relax,” Tony says. “But someone like Richard [Branson], he’s more hungry today than he was at 16.”
As Tony explains, if you can maintain a constant sense of hunger, you will be driven to achieve your most outlandish dreams. And with this dependable drive deep inside you, you will always be able to find the right strategies to bring those dreams to life.
“Hunger is the ultimate driver,” Tony says simply. “If you’re hungry, you can get the strategy, you can get the answer. If you can’t model it, you can find it.”
I love what Tony has to say about hunger, but I wanted him to go further. I wanted to know how he stays hungry.
Tony sat back for a second. Then he looked at me, chuckled, and said: “The best way to keep your hunger is to get around where it’s better and things will hit you. Who you spend time with is who you become.”
If we spend our time with incredible people, we have no choice but to step up our game. Yes, Tony has an incredible amount of wisdom to share with the people he coaches. But he also learns just as much from spending time with them. Coaching people such as Oprah Winfrey and Bill Clinton forces Tony to stay hungry. It forces him to grow.
If we spend our time with incredible people, we have no choice but to step up our game.
That was the biggest takeaway I learned from my time on Tony’s jet. We must continuously monitor whom we spend our time with. If we can surround ourselves with people who have achieved incredible things, not only can we soak up their habits, but we will also inherit their hunger.

How many times have you told yourself what you “should” do?
I should lose weight.
I should be more confident.
I should earn more money.
I should have a more passionate relationship.
People have an endless list of things they believe they should do or should follow through on. And these “shoulds” carry about the same weight as a New Year’s resolution — that is, if it happens, then that’s exciting. But if not, it won’t be too disappointing because you kind of knew it wasn’t really going to happen anyway.
But what happens when you decide something is an absolute “must?” What happens when you cut off any other possibility than you succeeding — when you decide that you are either going to find a way to make something happen or you’ll create the way yourself?
When you raise your standards and turn “should” into “must,” you are making an inner shift to take control over the quality of your life. Any area you are not getting what you want is because you haven’t raised your standards.
Take your relationship, for example. This is a direct reflection of your standards. Some people are in a relationship right now but they aren’t happy because their standard is that they must be in a relationship, not that they must have passion and excitement and pure joy and love. Others may not be in a relationship because their standard is that they must not be hurt.
If you want real change, you have to be willing to do your part. And it starts with asking yourself, honestly, who you are.
Are you a winner? Or are you always a step behind? Are you the life of the party? Or are you more reserved?
Answering this question and discovering what your true beliefs are about yourself is critical. Because this is your identity. And the fact is we are hard-wired to follow through on who we believe we are.
Consider someone who is trying to quit smoking. He may say to himself, “I’m going to do my best to stop smoking, but I’ve always been a smoker.” It doesn’t matter how hard he tries, if his identity is that he is a smoker, it’s futile. And the days until he is back smoking again are numbered. Because we act consistently with and ultimately become who we believe we are.
Most people, if they look at how they are living their lives today, will find that their identify is based on a set of standards and a set of beliefs they created 10, 20, 30 or more years ago. In fact, many of us made decisions when we were kids about what to believe, what we are capable, and who we are as a person, and that became the glass ceiling that controls us. But are you the same person you were back then? Are you the same person you were even a year ago?
Eventually, most people simply stop trying to break through that glass ceiling. They chock it up to “that’s just the way it is in my life,” or tell themselves “that’s just who I am.” But ironically, when you do this, you are actually denying who you really are. You are living under a false identity that is based off of false beliefs you adopted some time in the past.
So how do you define yourself? And when did you start to believe that? How many years ago did you decide what you could and could not do in your life? Don’t you think it’s time to raise your standards, turn your “shoulds” into “musts” and give yourself a new identity?
The strongest force in the human personality is the need to stay consistent with how we define ourselves. And you may just find that by making these changes, you can make lasting change in your quality of life.
