'She saw this little black girl by herself': Keshia Knight Pulliam says she was mistaken for a poor mother by hospital worker after giving birth
Keshia Knight Pulliam says she had an awkward run-in with a hospital employee who thought she was poor and requiring financial assistance, after she delivered her baby girl Ella Grace in late January at an Atlanta hospital.
The 37-year-old actress opened up about the incident on her podcast Kandidly Keshia on Friday.
She said the woman - 'an old little white lady ... about 70 years old' - initially came in to speak with her on how to provide the child with mother's milk via lactation.
While Keshia, who played Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show from 1984 until 1982, said things were 'kept very private' in terms of her identity, the woman began rattling on about social services often made available to people who are poverty-stricken.

The Newark, New Jersey native, who delivered her first child via Cesarean section, said that the specialist told her, 'We have some great programs that you may want to take advantage of that you may need ... um, WIC is a great program.'
The woman then gave Keshia a paper with 'about 30 different numbers and resources' for her to reach out to.

'So I guess she saw this little black girl with the little baby by herself and on the door, I didn't realize that they'd put like a faux last name and the last name was Brown,' said Pulliam, who's also been seen on Tyler Perry's House of Payne. 'So I guess she saw "Miss Brown" and was like, 'She probably needs some WIC' and insurance services.
Pulliam said she cut the woman off in telling her, 'Ma'am, I have excellent insurance but thank you.'
Equally as off-putting, the one-time child star said, was the woman's reluctance to make physical contact with her despite the inherent physical nature of the lesson she was there to impart: learning how to breastfeed.
Radiant: The Emmy-nominated actress showed off her pregnancy fashions via social media
'She didn't want to touch me - [specialists will typically] guide your boob, show you how to hold it, put it in the baby's mouth, [but] this lady was not trying to touch my little brown boobie - not at all,' said Keisha, who has 1.2 million Instagram followers.
The Emmy-nominated actress noted that while she understands that the hospital workers have an obligation to communicate 'the services that are offered,' she was offended that the woman presumed she was in need of the specific options she mentioned.
Through her pregnancy coach, Keisha eventually requested a different lactation specialist.
Keshia's pregnancy previously made headlines when her estranged husband Edgerton Hartwell, an NFL veteran of eight seasons, filed to divorce her within days of her announcement that they were expecting a child.
Better times: Keshia was snapped with ex Edgerton Hartwell in June of 2016, about a month prior to their split
