A mother in the US has been charged months after her three-month-old baby suffocated on a changing table.
The tragedy happened in September 2016 when Laci Lynn Taylor, 26, left her baby unattended.
Court documents say that while Taylor was out of the room the baby rolled over on the changing table. Her neck became compressed and cut off her airway.
Although the incident sounds like a terrible accident, police say that it is a criminal offence because Taylor left the baby alone for an extended period of time.
The court documents also show that Taylor knew her child was capable of rolling over.
Taylor was charged with child endangerment resulting in death. The maximum penalty for the charge is 25 years in prison.
Taylor's husband Don Taylor told the press that he is distraught that his wife is sitting in jail and doesn't blame her at all.
"They can say whatever they want, but it was an accident," Don Taylor said. "That's the thing."
"She was actually getting my daughter a bottle, and that's what happened, and that's why she wasn't in the room at that point."
Don Taylor also said that Laci is an excellent mother who doted on her two children.
The Taylors now have had memorial tattoos to honour their deceased baby.
"There is not one day that we both don't think about her, and the memories of that day is still in our head," Don Taylor said.
"I wake up every morning … in a panic attack because I hear my wife screaming my daughter's name. That's what I have to live with every day."
