What's great about The Incident is how its strips bare so many pretenses, tears away the social order, and lets the chips fall where they may. The subway car where the meat of the action takes place might as well be the jungle--a merciless, survival of the fittest kind of place. The two thugs are the embodiment of the civilized man's worst nightmare. Strong, aggressive, amoral males with a thirst for blood and domination. The frail bonds of society--that keep the strong from throttling the weak--are gone. No police, no laws, no manners, and, most of all, no honor. Stripped to its essence, true nature reveals itself: the sex-starved woman who wants a domineering macho man; the slick, handsome guy who had no true feelings for his pretty date, just for himself; the soldier whose uniform hides his cowardice; the list goes on and on.
This is a great film. Inspired, gripping, and razor-like in its insight. Sure, it isn't perfect. But it's says something important in an incredibly powerful way. If you don't see yourself in it, or some part of you, you're probably deluding yourself--especially these folks who say, "I would have taken care of these thugs!" Maybe these, but at some point that bravado falls away.

"The Incident" is the other kind of movie. The photography is fuzzy, the characters are gold-plated stereotypes, the plot is obvious and advances automatically. But the movie works; it delivers the goods. It creates the suspense and fear it tries for.
Maybe that's because the subject matter -- violence on the subway --touches a responsive nerve right now. Society has always been pretty much divided up between those who are capable of sudden, senseless violence, and those who are not. This is a movie about what happens when the two types are pushed together and the outlaws terrorize the citizens. Sort of an urban Western.
The outlaws are two suitably tough hoods who roll a guy in an alley and then take the subway to Times Square. The citizens are average citizens indeed; they could have been chosen from old Gallup Polls to represent the various Official Man on the Street stereotypes.
There are a young married couple with a daughter, two necking teenagers, two soldiers home on leave, a Negro couple (she a social worker, he fed up with Whitey), an elderly Jewish couple, a gentle former alcoholic, a homosexual, a nagging wife and her henpecked husband and a bum (asleep). They only forgot the Indian, the hillbilly, the Irishman and the cop.
The characters are introduced in short scenes before they get on the subway car (the teenagers neck, the married couples quarrel, etc.). Then the terrorists move around the car, duly terrorizing each character by turn. They start with the easy ones (the bum and the homosexual) and move up to the tough cases (the soldiers).
Some of the confrontations work pretty well, as when the soldier from Oklahoma, who has his arm in a cast, balances neatly between his Southwestern pride and the clear realization that New York subways are of another universe. But other scenes don't work so well; the Negro man (Brock Peters) allows his anger to rise magnificently to their taunts, but then the script calls for him to back down, and this is not at all convincing. I think he would have hit them.
Nobody does, though, until the end. So the point is pretty obvious: The average American, of whatever walk of life, class, race or religion, doesn't want to get involved. Perhaps that is not quite true, but there are enough true stories like the fictional one in "The Incident" to suggest that sometimes it might be. That is probably the source of the fascination in this movie and the reason it works even though it isn't done very well.

Christmas Every Day is a 1996 American television movie, based on William Dean Howells's 1892 short story, "Christmas Every Day". It was directed by Larry Peerce, starred Erik von Detten, and originally broadcast on The Family Channel during their first 25 Days of Christmas programming block.
Plot:
Set in the fictional town of Greenwood Falls, Virginia (just outside of Washington, D.C.), the film stars Erik von Detten as Billy Jackson, a selfish teenager forced to relive the same Christmas every day. At night on Christmas Day, Billy's sister (Yvonne Zima) wishes that it was Christmas every day. And thereafter he has to keep repeating Christmas Day until he realizes the true meaning of the holiday season.
The movie also stars Robert Hays and Bess Armstrong as Billy's parents.
Billy finds the entire experience to be really a nightmare. "My life is on rewind," he moans. Each December 25, he must face the school bully (Tyler Mason Buckalew), get involved in his grocer father's dispute with his fat-cat uncle (Robert Curtis Brown) who wants to build a mega-store and ruin the local merchants. Then there's Billy's Christmas pageant prank that goes horribly awry, and the destitute old lady who needs the bag of food he forgets to bring her.

Lawrence "Larry" Peerce (born April 19, 1930) is an American film and TV director whose work includes the theatrical feature Goodbye, Columbus, the early rock and roll concert film The Big T.N.T. Show, One Potato, Two Potato (1964), The Other Side of the Mountain (1975), and Oscar nominee Two-Minute Warning (1976).
Life and career
The son of operatic tenor Jan Peerce and talent agent Alice (Kalmanowitz) Peerce, Larry Peerce was born in The Bronx, New York City, New York. He attended the University of North Carolina. He made his directing debut with One Potato, Two Potato, released in 1964 by the distributor Cinema V. The groundbreaking drama about an interracial marriage between a white divorcee (played by Barbara Barrie, who won the Best Actress award at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival for the role) and an African-American office worker (Bernie Hamilton) was the first U.S. movie to portray such an interracial relationship.
Peerce went on to direct several episodes of the Western television series Branded and the campy superhero series Batman, among other shows, before directing the early rock and roll concert film The Big T.N.T. Show, released in 1966 by American International Pictures and featuring such performers as The Byrds, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Donovan, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Ronettes and The Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

Two-minute warning
In the National Football League (NFL), the two-minute warning is given when two minutes of game time remain on the game clock in each half of a game, i.e. near the end of the second and fourth quarters. There is an additional two-minute warning in the rare event only two minutes remain in an overtime period. If the football is in play when the clock reaches 2:00, the two-minute warning is called immediately after the play concludes, when the ball is declared dead. The two-minute warning stops the game clock in all cases.
History
The origins are from the days in the NFL when the official game time was kept by a member of the officiating crew, with the stadium clock being unofficial. Its purpose was a checkpoint to ensure that the teams knew how much time remained in the game. Since the late 1960s the NFL stadium clock has been official, but by then television was an important factor in the NFL, so the two-minute warning was retained as a commercial break and to serve as "tension building" time, and thus has become an important part of the game's flow.

Christmas Every Day is a 1996 American television movie, based on William Dean Howells's 1892 short story, "Christmas Every Day".
It was directed by Larry Peerce, starred Erik von Detten, and originally broadcast on The Family Channel during their first 25 Days of Christmas programming block. and was also shown on UK television on QVC Extra (True Entertainment) on November 28, 2015.
The movie was remade into an ABC Family TV movie in 2006 titled Christmas Do-Over.

What's great about The Incident is how its strips bare so many pretenses, tears away the social order, and lets the chips fall where they may. The subway car where the meat of the action takes place might as well be the jungle--a merciless, survival of the fittest kind of place. The two thugs are the embodiment of the civilized man's worst nightmare. Strong, aggressive, amoral males with a thirst for blood and domination. The frail bonds of society--that keep the strong from throttling the weak--are gone. No police, no laws, no manners, and, most of all, no honor. Stripped to its essence, true nature reveals itself: the sex-starved woman who wants a domineering macho man; the slick, handsome guy who had no true feelings for his pretty date, just for himself; the soldier whose uniform hides his cowardice; the list goes on and on.
This is a great film. Inspired, gripping, and razor-like in its insight. Sure, it isn't perfect. But it's says something important in an incredibly powerful way. If you don't see yourself in it, or some part of you, you're probably deluding yourself--especially these folks who say, "I would have taken care of these thugs!" Maybe these, but at some point that bravado falls away.

"The Incident" is the other kind of movie. The photography is fuzzy, the characters are gold-plated stereotypes, the plot is obvious and advances automatically. But the movie works; it delivers the goods. It creates the suspense and fear it tries for.
Maybe that's because the subject matter -- violence on the subway --touches a responsive nerve right now. Society has always been pretty much divided up between those who are capable of sudden, senseless violence, and those who are not. This is a movie about what happens when the two types are pushed together and the outlaws terrorize the citizens. Sort of an urban Western.
The outlaws are two suitably tough hoods who roll a guy in an alley and then take the subway to Times Square. The citizens are average citizens indeed; they could have been chosen from old Gallup Polls to represent the various Official Man on the Street stereotypes.
There are a young married couple with a daughter, two necking teenagers, two soldiers home on leave, a Negro couple (she a social worker, he fed up with Whitey), an elderly Jewish couple, a gentle former alcoholic, a homosexual, a nagging wife and her henpecked husband and a bum (asleep). They only forgot the Indian, the hillbilly, the Irishman and the cop.
The characters are introduced in short scenes before they get on the subway car (the teenagers neck, the married couples quarrel, etc.). Then the terrorists move around the car, duly terrorizing each character by turn. They start with the easy ones (the bum and the homosexual) and move up to the tough cases (the soldiers).
Some of the confrontations work pretty well, as when the soldier from Oklahoma, who has his arm in a cast, balances neatly between his Southwestern pride and the clear realization that New York subways are of another universe. But other scenes don't work so well; the Negro man (Brock Peters) allows his anger to rise magnificently to their taunts, but then the script calls for him to back down, and this is not at all convincing. I think he would have hit them.
Nobody does, though, until the end. So the point is pretty obvious: The average American, of whatever walk of life, class, race or religion, doesn't want to get involved. Perhaps that is not quite true, but there are enough true stories like the fictional one in "The Incident" to suggest that sometimes it might be. That is probably the source of the fascination in this movie and the reason it works even though it isn't done very well.

Plot:
Set in the fictional town of Greenwood Falls, Virginia (just outside of Washington, D.C.), the film stars Erik von Detten as Billy Jackson, a selfish teenager forced to relive the same Christmas every day. At night on Christmas Day, Billy's sister (Yvonne Zima) wishes that it was Christmas every day. Billy finds the entire experience to be really a nightmare. "My life is on rewind," he moans. Each December 25, he must face the school bully (Tyler Mason Buckalew), get involved in his grocer father's dispute with his fat-cat uncle (Robert Curtis Brown) who wants to build a mega-store and ruin the local merchants. Then there's Billy's Christmas pageant prank that goes horribly awry, and the destitute old lady who needs the bag of food he forgets to bring her.

At night on Christmas Day, Billy's sister (Yvonne Zima) wishes that it was Christmas every day. And thereafter he has to keep repeating Christmas Day until he realizes the true meaning of the holiday season.
The movie also stars Robert Hays and Bess Armstrong as Billy's parents.
Billy finds the entire experience to be really a nightmare. "My life is on rewind," he moans. Each December 25, he must face the school bully (Tyler Mason Buckalew), get involved in his grocer father's dispute with his fat-cat uncle (Robert Curtis Brown) who wants to build a mega-store and ruin the local merchants. Then there's Billy's Christmas pageant prank that goes horribly awry, and the destitute old lady who needs the bag of food he forgets to bring her.

Based on one of author Phillip Roth's shorter works, Goodbye Columbus stars Richard Benjamin as Neil, a young man of humble means who falls in love with Jewish-American-princess Brenda (Ali MacGraw). Their romance is out of the question so far as Brenda's suburbanite parents are concerned, so Neil and Brenda rendezvous in some of the sleaziest motels ever seen in a 1960s film (and that assessment includes The Bates Motel). Unwilling to take birth control pills because they upset her tummy, Brenda opts for a diaphragm, which unfortunately is discovered by her mother.
