Ellenbrook father Paul Cosgrove, who confessed to killing his seven-month-old baby Lily, was on Tuesday sentenced to seven years behind bars.

The 24-year-old, who was originally charged with GBH before it was upgraded, will be eligible for parole after five years.

Lily died in hospital on September 16, last year, from grievous injuries inflicted by her father.

Police reviewed the case, following a post-mortem, and subsequently changed the original charge of GBH to "unlawfully killing another under such circumstances as not to constitute murder".

Cosgrove pleaded guilty to the charge on August 31 this year.

At the time of Lily's death, her mother Emma Jane Cosgrove, spoke of her heartbreak at her baby's death.

"I still can't believe my baby girl's not here... that this morning I didn't see her face looking at me with a smile... smiling at me because it was morning and she was just so happy to be alive to see her mummy," she said.

"I'm always going to remember that she loved me more than anyone and I loved her more than anyone. We were best mates. I just loved every minute of being her mum."

"That's why she went. She was just too perfect and too happy and too good [for this world]. She just didn't belong here.

"I want everyone to pray that she's okay. That she's happy and not fretting for me and that she and I will be together again when it's my turn and we will never, ever be apart again."

Ms Cosgrove told reporters the day after Lily died she had put Lily to bed on the previous Sunday night, September 14, and did not disturb her before leaving for work on Monday morning.

When she returned home Monday night and found Lily unconscious, she called an ambulance.

Lily was taken to Swan Districts Hospital and then transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital.

Major Crime Squad detectives were called to investigate Lily's injuries later that night.

She died two days later.
