Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek.
First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum.
Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them!
It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls.
Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war.
We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time.
And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union.
As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us.
With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. A cargo plane on a flight from Hong-Kong has crashed near Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the coutry's Emergency Ministry reported. According to the ministry, the flight has belonged to a Turkish company.

Turkish Mycargo plane crashed when approaching to landing today at about 7.10 a.m. close to Manas airport.
According to preliminary information, the cargo aircraft did not reach the runway.
The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Ambulance, rescue and emergency services arrived at the scene.
The place is cordoned off.
The plane has crashed during landing approach due to bad weather conditions, the ministry noted. There are no reports on the casualties yet.
More than 30 people died, 15 houses were destroyed as a result of the collapse of Turkish Boeing nearby Manas airport not far from the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.
According to preliminary data, the fire at the crash site was brought under control.
The First Vice Prime Minister Mukhammetkaliy Abulgaziev, Emergency Situations Minister Kubatbek Boronov and the head of the Ministry of Transport and Roads Zhamshit Kalilov left for the plane crash site- Dacha- Suu village of Sokuluk district.

Boeing 747 crashes in Kyrgyzstan
In the crush of the cargo "Boeing-747" near Manas airport three pilots died, one crew member survived, First Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammetkaly Abulgaziev said.
According to him, all services are working at the crash site. Operational headquarter of the representatives of Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Roads, local authorities is formed.
"There are victims among the local population. The plane crashed near the airport, in the area of summer houses. The number of victims is being specified," Mukhammetkaly Abulgaziev said.
UPDATE: At least 5 injured, 3 of them children and adolescents aged 7, 13 and 15 years, hospitalized, the Ministry of Health reported.
Almost all of them have polytraumas (burns, head trauma, spinal cord injuries). Injured taken to Bishkek Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics, urban children's hospital of Bishkek.
The body of the deceased pilot of the aircraft delivered to the national morgue.
32 people died, of whom 9 adults and 6 children from the local community

After traveling around Kyrgyzstan we finished our trip off in Bishkek where we rented an apartment for several days. In this video we give you a full Bishkek apartment tour of our place. I think you'll see that it has a lot of character and the security system is particularly fascinating as is the old Soviet feel of the building.

Bishkek Apartment Tour in Kyrgyzstan travel video transcript:
So it is time for another apartment tour. Right now we're in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We've been traveling around the country for three weeks and we've spent ten of those days here in the capital. Yes, and this happens to be our favorite spot out of the two or three different places we've stayed in the city. So we're going to show you around. Let's go.
So getting in here is like going into Fort Knox. So much security but we feel really safe even with all of these keys and special magnets.
But before we give you the apartment tour we need to have breakfast and they make a delicious breakfast over here. Yeah, we've been having basically a feast every morning. Uh-huh. And today they switched it up a little bit which is cool. We've been having omelets previously and kind of rolled up crepes with jam but if you take a look down here you can see we've got fried eggs, it looks like we have some ham, tomatoes, cucumber and then we have a different style of pancake here and it looks like little dollops of jam. We have toast, we have orange juice. Juice.
And coffee.
Okay, grabbing some egg and a bit of ham.
So now that we've had our breakfast it is time for the grand tour so we're going to show you around our one bedroom apartment. So come in. This is like I guess our little lobby area. Do you have a lobby area in an apartment. It is probably called something else. Hahaha.
The cloakroom area. So this is where the shoes are kept. Shoes, umbrellas and you can hang up your coats over here.
And then it kind of goes straight into the kitchen and we actually have a pretty nice modern kitchen. I really like it. Yeah. And we've got a washing machine. We do. That is like. When we decide to rent an apartments as opposed to staying in a hotel that is like the number one feature. It is one of the best things aside from having our own fridge of course too.
So we have an electric range so we can cook. We have a kettle, no microwave but we haven't really needed that. We've mostly been eating out.
So yeah, this is our little breakfast nook. This is where we have breakfast every morning. Yeah, as you can see the dirty dishes.
Okay, next we'll show you the bathroom since it is right across from the kitchen.
So we kind of have like this walk in shower.
This shower, I have to say is like. Open it up for us. It is almost like a 5 star shower. Like the quality is incredible. The water pressure. Like check out that thing. It is huge.
So yeah, I guess you could call this like the bedroom slash living area. So we have a double bed but we also have some couches over here where we can work do our thing on the computer.
Um, so yeah I mean it is enough space for two people. It is really all you need and we have a bit of storage as well.
We've got storage, a TV and we have a little balcony. I'll show you that.
So that is a wrap for our little Bishkek apartment tour. Yeah, so basically it was really cool staying here because I felt like we got to a little bit of window into the culture. The Soviet Era complex apartment buildings. Like these massive buildings. We're getting to stay in here and even though we're like on the first or second level. First level. We're not near the top it is still really cool and it is just like whenever you can stay in apartments as opposed to a hotel.

По данным МЧС Киргизии, самолет упал в районе дачного поселка в окрестностях аэропорта Манас. В результате падения загорелись два дома. Bishkek
Bishkek (in Kyrgyz and Russian: Бишкéк), formerly Pishpek and Frunze, is the capital and the largest city of Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is also the administrative centre of Chuy Province which surrounds the city, even though the city itself is not part of the province but rather a province-level unit of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the post-Soviet ideology, the name is thought to derive from a Kyrgyz word for a churn used to make fermented mare's milk (kumis), the Kyrgyz national drink, which is rather debatable. Founded in 1825 as a Khokand fortress of "Pishpek" to control local caravan routes and to get tribute from Kyrgyz tribes, on 4 September 1860 the fortress was destroyed by Russian forces led by colonel Zimmermann, with approval of the Kyrgyz. In 1868 a Russian settlement was founded on the fortress's spot, adopting its original name - Pishpek, within the General Governorship of Russian Turkestan and its Semirechye Oblast.
In 1925 the Kara-Kirghiz Autonomous Oblast was created in Russian Turkestan, promoting Pishpek as its capital. In 1926 the city was given the name Frunze, after the Bolshevik military leader Mikhail Frunze, who was born here. In 1936 the city of Frunze became the capital of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic during the final stages of the national delimitation in the Soviet Union.

Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines (Turkish: Türk Hava Yolları) (BİST: THYAO) is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered at the Turkish Airlines General Management Building on the grounds of Atatürk Airport in Yeşilköy, Bakırköy, Istanbul.As of February 2015, it operates scheduled services to 280 destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, making it the fourth-largest carrier in the world by number of destinations. History
Early years
Turkish Airlines was established on 20 May 1933 as State Airlines Administration (Turkish: Devlet Hava Yolları) as a department of the Ministry of National Defence. The initial fleet consisted of two five-seat Curtiss Kingbirds, two four-seat Junkers F.13s and one ten-seat Tupolev ANT-9. In 1935, the airline was turned over to the Ministry of Public Works and was subsequently renamed General Directorate of State Airlines. Three years later, in 1938, it became part of the Ministry of Transportation.

Boeing 747
The Boeing 747 is a wide-body commercial jet airliner and cargo aircraft, often referred to by its original nickname, Jumbo Jet, or Queen of the Skies. Its distinctive "hump" upper deck along the forward part of the aircraft makes it among the world's most recognizable aircraft, and it was the first wide-body produced. Manufactured by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in the United States, the original version of the 747 had two and a half times greater capacity than the Boeing 707, one of the common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.
The four-engine 747 uses a double deck configuration for part of its length. It is available in passenger, freighter and other versions. Boeing designed the 747's hump-like upper deck to serve as a first class lounge or extra seating, and to allow the aircraft to be easily converted to a cargo carrier by removing seats and installing a front cargo door. Boeing did so because the company expected supersonic airliners (development of which was announced in the early 1960s) to render the 747 and other subsonic airliners obsolete, while the demand for subsonic cargo aircraft would be robust well into the future. The 747 was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold, but it exceeded critics' expectations with production passing the 1,000 mark in 1993. By January 2016, 1,520 aircraft had been built, with 19 of the 747-8 variants remaining on order.

Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek. First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum. Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them! It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls. Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war. We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time. And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union. As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us. With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park. And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. Right now we're in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We've been traveling around the country for three weeks and we've spent ten of those days here in the capital. Yes, and this happens to be our favorite spot out of the two or three different places we've stayed in the city. So we're going to show you around. Let's go. So getting in here is like going into Fort Knox. So much security but we feel really safe even with all of these keys and special magnets. But before we give you the apartment tour we need to have breakfast and they make a delicious breakfast over here. Yeah, we've been having basically a feast every morning. Uh-huh. And today they switched it up a little bit which is cool. We've been having omelets previously and kind of rolled up crepes with jam but if you take a look down here you can see we've got fried eggs, it looks like we have some ham, tomatoes, cucumber and then we have a different style of pancake here and it looks like little dollops of jam. We have toast, we have orange juice. Juice. And coffee. Okay, grabbing some egg and a bit of ham. So now that we've had our breakfast it is time for the grand tour so we're going to show you around our one bedroom apartment. So come in. This is like I guess our little lobby area. Do you have a lobby area in an apartment. It is probably called something else. Hahaha. The cloakroom area. So this is where the shoes are kept. Shoes, umbrellas and you can hang up your coats over here. And then it kind of goes straight into the kitchen and we actually have a pretty nice modern kitchen. I really like it. Yeah. And we've got a washing machine. We do. That is like. When we decide to rent an apartments as opposed to staying in a hotel that is like the number one feature. It is one of the best things aside from having our own fridge of course too. So we have an electric range so we can cook. We have a kettle, no microwave but we haven't really needed that. We've mostly been eating out. So yeah, this is our little breakfast nook. This is where we have breakfast every morning. Yeah, as you can see the dirty dishes. Okay, next we'll show you the bathroom since it is right across from the kitchen. So we kind of have like this walk in shower. This shower, I have to say is like. Open it up for us. It is almost like a 5 star shower. Like the quality is incredible. The water pressure. Like check out that thing. It is huge. So yeah, I guess you could call this like the bedroom slash living area. So we have a double bed but we also have some couches over here where we can work do our thing on the computer. Um, so yeah I mean it is enough space for two people. It is really all you need and we have a bit of storage as well. We've got storage, a TV and we have a little balcony. I'll show you that. So that is a wrap for our little Bishkek apartment tour. Yeah, so basically it was really cool staying here because I felt like we got to a little bit of window into the culture. The Soviet Era complex apartment buildings. Like these massive buildings. We're getting to stay in here and even though we're like on the first or second level. First level. We're not near the top it is still really cool and it is just like whenever you can stay in apartments as opposed to a hotel. So now if you're thinking of traveling to Bishkek (Бишкек) or perhaps moving here now you have a better idea of what the apartments look like. Yeah, exactly. 15 things to do in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek.
First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum.
Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them!
It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls.
Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war.
We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time.
And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union.
As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us.
With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. Turkish Mycargo plane crashed when approaching to landing today at about 7.10 a.m. close to Manas airport.
According to preliminary information, the cargo aircraft did not reach the runway.
The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Ambulance, rescue and emergency services arrived at the scene.
The place is cordoned off.
The plane has crashed during landing approach due to bad weather conditions, the ministry noted. There are no reports on the casualties yet.
More than 30 people died, 15 houses were destroyed as a result of the collapse of Turkish Boeing nearby Manas airport not far from the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.
According to preliminary data, the fire at the crash site was brought under control.
The First Vice Prime Minister Mukhammetkaliy Abulgaziev, Emergency Situations Minister Kubatbek Boronov and the head of the Ministry of Transport and Roads Zhamshit Kalilov left for the plane crash site- Dacha- Suu village of Sokuluk district.

In the crush of the cargo "Boeing-747" near Manas airport three pilots died, one crew member survived, First Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammetkaly Abulgaziev said.
According to him, all services are working at the crash site. Operational headquarter of the representatives of Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Roads, local authorities is formed.
"There are victims among the local population. The plane crashed near the airport, in the area of summer houses. The number of victims is being specified," Mukhammetkaly Abulgaziev said.
UPDATE: At least 5 injured, 3 of them children and adolescents aged 7, 13 and 15 years, hospitalized, the Ministry of Health reported.
Almost all of them have polytraumas (burns, head trauma, spinal cord injuries). Injured taken to Bishkek Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics, urban children's hospital of Bishkek.
The body of the deceased pilot of the aircraft delivered to the national morgue.
32 people died, of whom 9 adults and 6 children from the local community

Por el momento se informa de al menos 30 víctimas mortales, de los cuales casi todos serían habitantes de las viviendas de la zona, incluyendo 6 niños. Otras cinco personas han resultado heridas.
A bordo de la aeronave solo se encontraban cuatro miembros de la tripulación, uno de los cuales ha sobrevivido, de acuerdo con el Ministerio de Emergencias.
El Boeing se accidentó debido a las condiciones climáticas adversas cuando se preparaba para el aterrizaje, a entre 5 y 15 kilómetros del aeropuerto internacional de Manas, donde se sitúa una zona de casas de campo.

So it is time for another apartment tour. Right now we're in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We've been traveling around the country for three weeks and we've spent ten of those days here in the capital. Yes, and this happens to be our favorite spot out of the two or three different places we've stayed in the city. So we're going to show you around. Let's go.
So getting in here is like going into Fort Knox. So much security but we feel really safe even with all of these keys and special magnets.
But before we give you the apartment tour we need to have breakfast and they make a delicious breakfast over here. Yeah, we've been having basically a feast every morning. Uh-huh. And today they switched it up a little bit which is cool. We've been having omelets previously and kind of rolled up crepes with jam but if you take a look down here you can see we've got fried eggs, it looks like we have some ham, tomatoes, cucumber and then we have a different style of pancake here and it looks like little dollops of jam. We have toast, we have orange juice. Juice.
And coffee.
Okay, grabbing some egg and a bit of ham.
So now that we've had our breakfast it is time for the grand tour so we're going to show you around our one bedroom apartment. So come in. This is like I guess our little lobby area. Do you have a lobby area in an apartment. It is probably called something else. Hahaha.
The cloakroom area. So this is where the shoes are kept. Shoes, umbrellas and you can hang up your coats over here.

When we decide to rent an apartments as opposed to staying in a hotel that is like the number one feature. It is one of the best things aside from having our own fridge of course too.
So we have an electric range so we can cook. We have a kettle, no microwave but we haven't really needed that. We've mostly been eating out.
So yeah, this is our little breakfast nook. This is where we have breakfast every morning. Yeah, as you can see the dirty dishes.
Okay, next we'll show you the bathroom since it is right across from the kitchen.
So we kind of have like this walk in shower.
This shower, I have to say is like. Open it up for us. It is almost like a 5 star shower. Like the quality is incredible. The water pressure. Like check out that thing. It is huge.
So yeah, I guess you could call this like the bedroom slash living area. So we have a double bed but we also have some couches over here where we can work do our thing on the computer.
Um, so yeah I mean it is enough space for two people. It is really all you need and we have a bit of storage as well.
We've got storage, a TV and we have a little balcony. I'll show you that.
So that is a wrap for our little Bishkek apartment tour. Yeah, so basically it was really cool staying here because I felt like we got to a little bit of window into the culture. The Soviet Era complex apartment buildings. Like these massive buildings. We're getting to stay in here and even though we're like on the first or second level. First level. We're not near the top it is still really cool and it is just like whenever you can stay in apartments as opposed to a hotel.

Bishkek Apartment Tour in Kyrgyzstan travel video transcript:
So it is time for another apartment tour. Right now we're in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We've been traveling around the country for three weeks and we've spent ten of those days here in the capital. Yes, and this happens to be our favorite spot out of the two or three different places we've stayed in the city. So we're going to show you around. Let's go.
So getting in here is like going into Fort Knox. So much security but we feel really safe even with all of these keys and special magnets.
But before we give you the apartment tour we need to have breakfast and they make a delicious breakfast over here. Yeah, we've been having basically a feast every morning. Uh-huh. And today they switched it up a little bit which is cool. We've been having omelets previously and kind of rolled up crepes with jam but if you take a look down here you can see we've got fried eggs, it looks like we have some ham, tomatoes, cucumber and then we have a different style of pancake here and it looks like little dollops of jam. We have toast, we have orange juice. Juice.
And coffee.
Okay, grabbing some egg and a bit of ham.
So now that we've had our breakfast it is time for the grand tour so we're going to show you around our one bedroom apartment. So come in. This is like I guess our little lobby area. Do you have a lobby area in an apartment. It is probably called something else. Hahaha.
The cloakroom area. So this is where the shoes are kept. Shoes, umbrellas and you can hang up your coats over here.

My name is Jonny Bealby, I founded Wild Frontiers, and in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kyrgyzstan.
Although small, Kyrgyzstan is perfectly formed. The Tien Shan – or Mountains of Heaven – that stretch across its length and breadth are lush and green, high and wild, dissected by sweeping steppe lands, primal forests, crystal streams, turquoise lakes and lofty snow-capped peaks. I first rode through here on horseback in 1999 while writing a book and making a Discovery Channel film, and I thought then it really was one of the most beautiful countries I had ever visited.
The country is primarily a mountainous land rising in altitude from 400 metres in the Ferghana Valley to over 7,400 metre on the summit of Peak Pobeda. More than half of the country is over 3,000 metres high, while a third is permanently covered in snow. But despite the immense natural beauty of this landlocked Central Asian, Silk Road republic, it is the people themselves that bring Kyrgyzstan to life, and on many of our tours to the country you will stay with local families with whom we have developed special friendships.
So to the country and the main sites you’ll see. Heading east out of the leafy, tree-lined streets of the capital Bishkek – a place renowned for its markets, monuments and excellent museum – you’ll first pass the imposing 11th century Borana Tower, before skirting the edge of Lake Izzy Kul. Here, in the far northeast of the country, you can spend a couple of days on the lake, visit the interesting town of Karakol or head to Karkara Mountain Camp for a bit of helicopter assisted glacier trekking, available every year on our Celestial Mountain Action Adventure.
From here you’ll probably move on around the southern shores of the lake, visiting one of the famous eagle hunters, and possibly trek over the one of the many magnificent passes, before hitting the main road south towards China, and one of the last remaining ancient Silk Road caravanserais at Tash Rabat. Here you can go for walks, or ride one of the local’s horses, all the while staying in one of the traditional yurts while Nazira and her family look after you. People often ask me, where is my favourite place in the world – well, this is right up there; sitting on the hills above the valley is one of the most peaceful settings I know.
From here most will either head over the border to China and the famous Silk Road crossroads town of Kashgar or west across the mountains to another jewel in the Kyrgyz crown, Lake Son Kul. A 3,000 metre high glacial lake, some 40 kilometres in length, again it offers a great place to walk or ride among the hills and meet more of the locals.
As you head further west so you can cross the sensational Ferghana range and visit the region around the Tajik border – particularly travelling up to Peak Lenin base camp – or head down into the Ferghana Valley and the ancient Silk Road town of Osh. Many of our trips come this way as they head into neighbouring Uzbekistan, but continuing on the circuit back round towards Bishkek and you come to yet another wonderful region of natural beauty, Sary Chelek National Park.
At Wild Frontiers we run both small group tours and tailor-made holidays to Kyrgyzstan. While some trips focus solely on this country, others take in Kyrgyzstan on longer journeys through this Silk Road region. It’s also the place that we run one of our best horse riding adventures; loosely following the route I took back in 1999, for those interested in equine holidays, this trip is simply sensational.

Day 1
Bishkek city.
Full day city tour in Bishkek. Visit main square Ala Too and see guardians of honor, Manas and Kurmandjan Datka monuments, Oak park and fine art gallery under clear sky.
Also visit State Historical Museum
Day 2
Bishkek city – Son Kul Lake.
Morning transfer to Son Kul Lake. En route visit Burana Tower Historical complex. Lunch in Kazakh family in Tokmok town.
Transfer to Son Kul. Arrival and accommodation in yurts. Inspection the camp and territory around.
Dinner and overnight in yurt camp.
Day 3
Son Kul Lake – Tash Rabat caravanserai.
Morning at leisure on Son Kul Lake. Walking around the area and still time for 2 hours horse riding before we continue.
Lunch in camp and transfer to Tash Rabat caravanserai. Transfer via Moldo Ashuu pass and arrive to Naryn town, then proceed closer to the border with China.
Stop in Kara Koum canyon, near Tash Rabat caravanserai. Accommodation in yurt camp. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Tash Rabat caravanserai – Karakol town.
Long driving day. Transfer first to Kochkor village. Stop for a lunch. See famous souvenir shop museum and demonstration of producing felt.
Continue drive to Karakol town. Reach south shore of the Issyk Kul Lake and transfer along. Arrival to Karakol town. Accommodation in a hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5
Karakol town – Karkara valley.
Early morning transfer to Karkara valley. Stop in Karkara tent camp and get helicopter excursion to South Inylchek glacier to the Khan Tengri base camp. That was our plan, because some rain and many clouds we had to skip the helicopter flight for that day and waiting for better weather.
Lunch and plenty of time to walk around Karkara valley, only 12m apart from the border to Kazakhstan. We even had a swim in the border river after our sauna.
Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 6
Karkara valley – Khan Tengri base camp – Bishkek city.
The day started with wonderful sunshine and clear sky. So we were ready for our helicopter ride to South Inylchek glacier and Khan Tengri base camp.
Unexpected our helicopter broke down at the base camp and we were not able to leave. Lunch at South Inylchek glacier, Khan Tengri base camp.
After approx 5 hrs. waiting (doing some sightseeing and walk around at the base camp) a second helicopter arrived with all necessary tools for repairment. Meanwhile we took the second helicopter back to Karkara valley and even got a spezial VIP flight back to Bishkek.
Wonderful scenic flight across the north shore of the Issyk Kul Lake.
Evening arrival on Military airport transfer to downtown and accommodation in a hotel. Dinner and rest. – Well deserved!
Day 7
Bishkek city – airport. Flight to Osh city.
Full day in Bishkek city, sightseeing and shopping at the market.
Evening flight to Osh city. Arrival, transfer to hotel. Rest. Lunch and dinner in cafes..
Day 8
Osh city.
Full day city tour in Osh. Visit Osh Bazaar and it’s handicraft rows.
After visiting bazaar visit Sulaiman Mount. On the mount first you visit historical museum. Follow the way of all pilgrims up to the top of the hill where you watch a little mosque of Babur.
Dinner in a local café. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 9
Osh city – Achick Tash base camp.
In the morning we start visiting the cattle and horse market. Than we continue our route to Pamir mountain ridge.
Lunch en route.
Arrival to Achick Tash base camp. Accommodation in tents. Dinner and overnight in BC.
Day 10
Achick Tash BC – Osh city.
Transfer back to Osh city. Lunch en route.
Arrival to Osh.
Overnight in a hotel. Rest.
Day 11
Osh city – airport.
Early morning transfer to the airport. Flight back home via Istanbul.
Arrival back in Frankfurt early afternoon.
