Victoria Police is looking for a man who held a knife to a woman’s throat in a Malvern carpark

POLICE are searching for a man who held a knife to a woman’s throat in a failed carjacking in Melbourne’s southeast.

Victoria Police spokesman Luke Zammit said the would-be carjacker demanded the victim’s keys after approaching her at an underground carpark in Malvern East about 7.30pm on Monday.

The man punched the woman in the face when she tried to take refuge in her car, before holding a blade to her throat, police said.

The assailant fled into a shopping centre on Dandenong Rd after the woman beeped her horn for help.

Police have released a picture of a man they believe may be able to help with their investigation.
