Howard William Cosell (/koʊˈsɛl/; born Howard William Cohen; March 25, 1918 – April 23, 1995) was an American sports journalist who was widely known for his blustery, cocksure personality. Cosell said of himself, "Arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, verbose, a showoff. There's no question that I'm all of those things." In its obituary for Cosell, The New York Times described Cosell's effect on American sports coverage: "He entered sports broadcasting in the mid-1950s, when the predominant style was unabashed adulation, [and] offered a brassy counterpoint that was first ridiculed, then copied until it became the dominant note of sports broadcasting."
In 1993, TV Guide named Howard Cosell The All-Time Best Sportscaster in its issue celebrating 40 years of television.
In 1996, Howard Cosell was ranked #47 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time.
Cosell was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to accountant Isidore Cohen and his wife Nellie Cohen. The grandson of a rabbi, he was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from New York University, where he was a member of Pi Lambda Phi. He then earned a degree at New York University School of Law, where he was a member of the law review.

The Drama in Bahamas was Muhammad Ali's final and most infamous fight. But the battle that raged outside the ring was even more compelling. At the center of that drama was the fight's promoter, James Cornelius, a street-wise man from Atlanta who had to navigate the shark-infested waters of the fight game, and stay one step ahead of the authorities while doing so. Based on true events.

Plot: In 1964, a brash new pro boxer, fresh from his olympic gold medal victory, explodes on to the scene, Cassius Clay. Bold and outspoken, he cuts an entirely new image for African Americans in sport with his proud public self confidence with his unapologetic belief that he is the greatest boxer of all time. To his credit, he sets out to prove that with his highly agile and forceful style soon making him a formidable boxer who soon claims the heavyweight championship. His personal life is no less noteworthy with his allegiance to the Nation of Islam, his friendship with the controversial Malcolm X and his abandonment of his slave name in favour of Muhammad Ali stirring up controversy. Yet, at the top of his game, both Ali's personal and professional lives face the ultimate test with the military draft rules are changed, making him eligible for military induction during the Vietnam War. Despite the fact that he could easily agree to a sweetheart deal that would have meant an easy tour of duty for himself, Ali refuses to submit on principle to cooperate in an unjust war for a racist nation that treated his people so poorly. The cost of that stand is high as he finds himself unable to legally box in his own country while his case is contested in court. What follows is a battle for a man who would sacrifice so much for what he believes in and a comeback that would cement his legend as one of the great sports figures of all time.

Genres: Biography, Drama,"Howard Cosell: His Life and Times" aired on August 29, 1991 on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" series. This episode on Cosell was hosted by Robert Lipsyte, a New York Times sports columnist. The title is sometimes incorrectly cited as 'The Life and Times of Howard Cosell." Lipsyte examines Howard Cosell's impact on sports television in a way that hasn't been done previously, and in a way that clarifies Cosell's primary target, i.e. the listener. It was with the listeners that Cosell managed to transform sports. He coupled an attorney's gift for debate with a cutting-edge voice that made listeners believe there was nothing more important than the sporting event they were watching. Former ABC News chairman Roone Arledge said of Howard Cosell "He's the garlic that makes the stew work." Inclu...

Read your free e-book: http://copydl.space/mebk/50/en/B00BERRRNG/book This is the first full-length biography of the lawyer-turned-sports journalist whose brash style and penchant for social commentary changed the way American sporting events are reported. Perhaps best known for his close relationship with the world champion boxer Muhammad Ali, Howard Cosell became a celebrity in his own right during the 1960s and 1970s-the bombastic, controversial, instantly recognizable sportscaster everyone "loved to hate." Raised in Brooklyn in a middle-class Jewish family, Cosell carried with him a deeply ingrained sense of social justice. Yet early on he abandoned plans for a legal career to become a pioneer in sports broadcasting, first in radio and then in television. The first white Tv reporter to...
