UNESCO
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Its purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through educational, scientific, and cultural reforms in order to increase universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the United Nations Charter. It is the heir of the League of Nations' International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation.
UNESCO has 195 member states and nine associate members. Most of its field offices are "cluster" offices covering three or more countries; national and regional offices also exist.
UNESCO pursues its objectives through five major programs: education, natural sciences, social/human sciences, culture and communication/information. Projects sponsored by UNESCO include literacy, technical, and teacher-training programmes, international science programmes, the promotion of independent media and freedom of the press, regional and cultural history projects, the promotion of cultural diversity, translations of world literature, international cooperation agreements to secure the world cultural and natural heritage (World Heritage Sites) and to preserve human rights, and attempts to bridge the worldwide digital divide. It is also a member of the United Nations Development Group.

Sabato 5 novembre 2016, nella Real Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro in Duomo di Napoli una “dedica” a Corato, ai suoi illustri concittadini Cataldo Leone e Attilio Mastromauro e al napoletano Matteo Renato Imbriani.
A darne notizia è Pina Catino, presidente del Club per l'Unesco di Bisceglie. «Su invito dell’Ecc.ma Deputazione del Tesoro di San Gennaro in Napoli, presieduto dal duca d’Andria e Castel del Monte, Conte di Ruvo di Puglia, Marchese di Corato, Riccardo Carafa - Principe del Sacro Romano Impero, data l’intesa intellettuale e di finalità d’intenti condivise negli anni - 2010-2011-2012-2013-2014- 2015 - volti a favorire e ampliare gli scambi tra tutte le Culture e ad affermare la propria identità culturale, il Club per l’Unesco di Bisceglie trainer in uno con il Club per l’Unesco di Napoli, come gli anni precedenti, anche per l’anno 2016 hanno organizzato la rassegna “Autunno in Cappella” portando il Patrimonio culturale della Regione Puglia a Napoli e la Cultura Partenopea, nella Real Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro in Duomo, uno dei gioielli più raffinati dell’Arte universale, cuore della devozione del popolo napoletano, per affrontare le sfide che la comunicazione e la cultura pongono in questi anni».
I Club per l’Unesco di Bisceglie e di Napoli si prefiggono «il precipuo scopo di scoprire e rafforzare le radici culturali pugliesi e partenopee e quanto esse hanno inciso sulla Storia del territorio e del popolo in un vicendevole scambio».
«Alla rassegna - si legge ancora nella nota - quest’anno dedicata a Corato e ai suoi illustri concittadini Cataldo Leone e Attilio Mastromauro e al napoletano Matteo Renato Imbriani, per l’Anno Internazionale Unesco Global Understanding nel Decennio Unesco di Avvicinamento delle Culture (2013 – 2022), hanno aderito diverse Istituzioni Culturali della Regione Puglia e partenopee».
Sono previste oltre quattrocento presenze di cittadini provenienti dalle Città pugliesi di Bisceglie, Corato, Andria, Molfetta, Barletta, Bitonto, Trani, Ruvo di Puglia, Casamassima e Turi che raggiungeranno in pullman e auto la città partenopea per assistere al concerto a testimonianza del camminare insieme agli artisti e organizzatori verso la Cultura della Pace.
Il concerto per la pace
I protagonisti della settima edizione che si inaugura con il concerto per la pace, sono giovani che attraverso le varie arti parlano di una cultura di pace rivolta ai coetanei ma soprattutto alla mente degli uomini. In concerto l’orchestra e coro della Provincia Bat Fondazione Musicale “Biagio Abbate” con il tenore Gianni Mazzone, il baritono Antonio Stragapede ed Emanuele Petruzzella all’organo. A dirigere il coro sarà il maestro Sokol Gjerji, Direttore maestro Benedetto Grillo.
Gerardo Strippoli, presidente della Pro Loco di Corato, aprirà il Concerto, declamando i versi delle sue poesie dedicandoli alla rassegna. Per il saluto alle bandiere, italiana ed europea, interverranno gli alunni della quarta E/F del secondo circolo didattico statale “Mons. Caputi” plesso via Martiri di Via Fani di Bisceglie. Il concerto sarà preceduto dai saluti istituzionali autorità Comune di Napoli, del sindaco di Bisceglie Francesco Spina, del sindaco di Corato Massimo Mazzilli, di Mariano Bruno segretario generale del Polo Consolare in Napoli, Massimo Martinelli presidente Ass. Culturale “Cataldo Leone” di Corato, Gaetano Ragno dirigente scolastico del “Caputi”.
Per parlare della fervida e poliedrica attività di Leone Cataldo durante la seconda metà del 20esimo secolo a Corato è intervenuto il poeta coratino prof. Franco Leone . Hanno presentato la serata Pina Catino e Fortunato Danise rispettivamente presidenti dei Club per l’Unesco di Bisceglie e di Napoli – Membri della Federazione Italiana Club e Centri per l’Unesco. Le conclusioni saranno affidate al vice presidente della Deputazione del Tesoro di San Gennaro – don Riccardo Carafa d’Andria.
La settima edizione della rassegna “Autunno in Cappella. Le Culture – Il Dialogo”, gode del Patrocinio della Regione Puglia - Presidenza del Consiglio, Polo Consolare in Napoli (70 Ambasciate), Città di Napoli, Bisceglie, Corato, Museo del Tesoro di San Gennaro in Napoli, Ordine dei Cavalieri Templari Cristiani Internazionali, Accademia delle Culture e Scienze Internazionali.

Per parlare della fervida e poliedrica attività di Leone Cataldo durante la seconda metà del 20esimo secolo a Corato è intervenuto il poeta coratino prof. Franco Leone . Hanno presentato la serata Pina Catino e Fortunato Danise rispettivamente presidenti dei Club per l’Unesco di Bisceglie e di Napoli – Membri della Federazione Italiana Club e Centri per l’Unesco. Le conclusioni saranno affidate al vice presidente della Deputazione del Tesoro di San Gennaro – don Riccardo Carafa d’Andria.

Halong Bay, Vietnam
Halong Bay is one of Mother Earth’s most amazing natural wonders and one of Vietnam’s most prized treasures. A comfortable 3 hours drive from Hanoi, Halong Bay is in Northeastern Vietnam on the shores of the Gulf of Tonkin. The bay is dominated by more than 1,600 limestone karsts and islets which rise out of the waters of the bay to heights of up to 100 meters (330 feet) and the numerous caves and grottos spread throughout the bay. Abundant scenic beauty, archeological and geological significance, cultural and historical connections, fresh seafood and proximity to international gateways make Halong Bay one of Vietnam’s most popular places to visit.
Such is the significance of Halong Bay that in 1994, UNESCO recognized the heart of Halong Bay as being a site of natural World Heritage and stated that "Apart from Halong Bay there are no equivalent sites on the World Heritage List..."
Geographical Location/Distribution
Halong Bay is located on the Western side of the Gulf of Tonkin in Northeastern Vietnam. The bay is approximately 35 km (21 miles) Northeast of the port city of Hai Phong and approximately 170 km (105 miles) by road from the capital Hanoi. The town of Halong is situated on the coast to the North of the bay. The journey from Hanoi to Halong takes approximately 3.5 hours.
Halong Bay is formed by Cat Ba island to the South, Ngoc Hung and Van Canh islands to the East and the Vietnamese coastline to the North and West. The bay covers a total area of 1,553 square kilometers (600 square miles). Occupying the heart of the bay between Halong town and Cat Ba island, the central World Heritage area stretches for 434 square kilometers (167 square miles).
Natural Features
Islands and Karsts
The most outstanding feature of Halong Bay and undoubtedly its greatest attraction are the 1,696 islands, islets and rocky karst outcrops. 989 of these islets and rocky outcrops have been been given imaginative names by the locals over the years. These have been derived from their perceived shapes and include names such as Man’s Head, Fighting Cocks, Wading Ox and Wallowing Buffalo.
With heights ranging from 50-100 meters (160-330 feet) and a height-to-width ratio of about 6:1, the majority of these karst pinnacles and islets have sheer, vertical cliffs. They are uninhabited and unaffected by human activities. The pure size and numbers of these outcrops provide a stunning contrast and backdrop to the turquoise waters of the bay when viewed from sea level.
Caves and Grottos
Another exceptional geological feature of Halong Bay is the number of limestone islands which have caves and grottoes within them. The total number of caves has never been determined and there are almost certainly more which are yet to be discovered. In order to preserve the natural state and integrity of the large number of caves and grottos in the World Heritage Area, only some are open to visitors. The most commonly visited are Thien Cung (Heavenly Palace) cave, Dau Go (Wood Tip) grotto, Sung Sot (Surprise) cave and Trinh Nu (Virgin) grotto.
The shapes and formations on the sides and rooves of the caves, many now being part of local folklore and legends, bear witness to the different stages of formation over the ages. Some cave features, such as calcified shell-beds, are the direct result of ancient human activity.
Sea and Lakes
The lower chambers of some caves and grottos are below sea level. Due to the porous nature of limestone, these chambers are often partially filled to form tidal lakes and pools. Although most of these are shallow, the depths of some have never been determined. The geomorphology of Halong Bay indicates that it is almost certain that there are undiscovered and fully entombed lakes within many of the islands. Dau Be (Goat’s Head island) alone has 6 different tidal lakes.
The sea in Halong Bay is generally less than 10 meters (33 feet) deep and boasts a rich biodiversity of about 1,000 species of marine animals. Over 160 species of coral have been identified. Coral reefs make up 30% of the seabed and in some areas as much as 80% of the seabed is covered in coral reefs. Most coral reefs are at a depth of 4-6 meters.

The programme catalogues, names, and conserves sites of outstanding cultural or natural importance to the common heritage of humanity. Under certain conditions, listed sites can obtain funds from the World Heritage Fund. The programme was founded with the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, which was adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO on 16 November 1972. Since then, 189 states parties have ratified the convention.
As of 2012, 962 sites are listed: 745 cultural, 188 natural, and 29 mixed properties, in 157 states parties.[5][6] By sites ranked by country Italy is home to the greatest number of World Heritage Sites with 47 sites, followed by Spain and China . Before explaining Common Core, you must first understand that it is a part of the Agenda 21 program. In the Agenda 21 document chapter 36 is titled "Promoting education, public awareness and training". This chapter goes on to explain how promoting education, public awareness and training, with focus on environmental education, is a critical theme both relevant to the implementation of the whole of Agenda 21 and indispensable for achieving sustainable development.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has a program called "Education for All" that includes the same people and same ideas as Common Core. The UNESCO goals and objectives for education are very similar to the Agenda 21 and Common Core goals and objectives.
During the 2008 Presidential campaign Barack Obama committed to making sure that every child has the chance to learn by creating a Global Fund for Education. This would require a new architecture of global cooperation that requires institutions to "combine the efficiency and capacity for action with inclusiveness."
UNESCO's educational goals and Common Core are both heavily funded by activist and philanthropist Bill Gates. So the Global Fund for Education was formulated by the UN, "agreed to" by Barack Obama, funded by Bill Gates, and Common Core was imposed on the American people through Department of Education (DOE) funding schemes that included "strings." I say "agreed to" because the taxpayers never had a say, or vote, and neither did the 45 States who were essentially coerced into adopting by the president's Race to the Top program, before Common Core was even defined, because they desperately wanted the federal funds that came with it. The "strings" were that it was a take it or leave it now proposition from the DOE -- there was no time for analysis or evaluations. Just sign on now and accept your federal funds. 45 states did sign on, while Texas, Alaska, Virginia, and Nebraska declined. Minnesota did adopt the English standards but not the math standards.
Common Core promotes the "three E's" of Agenda 21 -- equity, economy and environment. These three E's are integrated throughout the standards and intended to be taught in every class, including math. To be clear the real meaning of these three E's is as follows:
Equity means social equity or social justice, it does not equal justice. It means the "Common Good" — not individual rights.
Economy means redistribution of wealth, global trade, and Public/Private Partnerships (PPPs).
Environment means animals have equal rights or even more rights than humans. Nature or the environment is the central organizing principle for our economy and society.
We have established that the Common Core standards are derived from UNESCO and Agenda 21 goals and objectives, and that it has been accepted by 45 states. But does that mean Common Core is so entrenched in the US that it's here to stay? Maybe not. Opposition to Common Core is growing daily.
