Kyle Sandilands and Jackie (Jackie O) Henderson have left daylight between themselves and their FM breakfast rivals with a stellar showing in the first ratings period of the year.

The pair leapt an astonishing 2.4 ratings points to leave their KIIS 1065 show at 12.5 and the station overall on 10.3, topped only by 2GB on the AM dial (12.5).

The numbers will be music to the ears of the pair who are said currently to be in the middle of contract negotiations with their employer ARN. Their lawyers will surely be looking to up the asking the price after this showing.

Amanda Keller and Brendan "Jonesy" Jones fared less well at WSFM, well adrift  from their stablemates on just 7.1.

There was little joy for the new breakfast pairing of Rove McManus and Sam Frost on 2DayFM, who have so far failed to make any impact on the early-morning timeslot, flatlining at 3.0.

SCA management were desperately hoping for a ratings bump for the pair in the first survey to justify the faith they have placed in newcomer Frost and to slow the revolving door of talent at the station.

At the other end of the day there was also good news for KIIS with the Hughesy and Kate Drive show picking up a handsome 2.3 points. Meanwhile, 2Day FM's high-profile - and expensive - signing of Hamish Blake and Andy Lee has yet to pay off with the pair barely shifting on 5.5.

ARN's Duncan Campbell called it an "amazing result".

"I think we've had some really strong content generated by Kyle and Jackie O and that is reflected in their result today," he said. "It's the best result they have had since they have been at ARN."

However, he was coy about the apparently ongoing contract negotiations with his star pair

"Kyle and Jackie really enjoy their time at ARN and appreciate the way the company looks after them but I can't discuss negotiations," he said.
