“Detectives have declared a crime scene at a Jillinda Place residence in The Gap this morning after the body of a woman was located inside,” a police statement said.

Parts of the street outside have been roped off while forensic police examine the home.

Police have said they are pursuing a “number of lines” of inquiry in relation to the

woman’s death.

Acting Inspector Joe Zitny said the investigation was still in its preliminary stages.

“We’re keeping an open mind and there a number of lines of inquiry that we’ve already identified and intend pursuing, however as time progresses no doubt there will be further lines we will be following up on,” he said.

Insp Zitny said the officers were called to the house about 7am and found the woman dead.

He confirmed the woman had sustained obvious injuries but would not provide further details.

“It is apparent that she has sustained injuries however I’m not in a position to outline them at this time, that would be determined by a post-mortem examination which I understand will take place in the next few days,” he said.

Insp Zitny said police have spoken to neighbours and the person who made the first call to emergency services is assisting them with inquiries.

A family friend described the deceased woman as a “loving and kind person”.

“She’s a very nice friend, a very nice woman,” the friend said.

“I don’t know what happened, I just got a call asking me to come down, we are very very close friends.”

The friend is with a small group of loved ones at the bottom of the street, crying and hugging each other as they wait for any news from police.
