During his schooldays, Astley formed and played the drums in a number of local bands, where he met guitarist David Morris. After leaving school at sixteen, Astley was employed during the day as a driver in his father's market-gardening business and played drums on the Northern club circuit at night in bands such as Give Way – specialising in covering Beatles and Shadows songs – and FBI, which won several local talent competitions.

Although his debut album Here Comes the Fuzz failed to make an impact on the charts, his second album Version reached number two in the UK and included three top 10 singles. This success won him a Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist in 2008. His third studio album, Record Collection, was released on 27 September 2010, peaking at number two in the UK.
In 2014, Ronson achieved his first UK and US number one single with the Grammy-nominated "Uptown Funk," which featured vocals from Bruno Mars. In 2015 it won Ronson the Brit Award for British Single of the Year. Through his mother, he is also related to British Conservative politicians Sir Malcolm Rifkind and Leon Lord Brittan, as well as Odeon Cinemas founder Oscar Deutsch. fed up... frustrated
can't understand the reason why
you shut yourself out
you're blind to everything inside
you drag yourself down
you flee from faith you need
betrayal as drugs tell you to
how can you believe this is true
...slap in the face boy...
you don't find the answers
to your questions in a pipe
tuning out from all what's happening
makes you believe the hype
it's nice to laugh
but it's hard to be the joke
drowning deep in disillusion
watching your life go up in smoke
time's u... time's up to get a grip man
wise up... it's time to give a damn
depressive feeling... head down to low
nothing to give... nothing to show
down and out... no place to go
all this for nothing... all this for show
time's up... time's up to get a grip man
wise up... it's up to you to give a damn
