Im tibetischen Hochland führen die Nomadenvölker einen harten Kampf ums Überleben. Die wilde Natur bietet kaum Anbau- und Weidefläche. Die einzigen Nutztiere, die hier Futter finden, sind die Yaks. Sie bilden die Lebensgrundlage der Bergnomaden und versorgen sie mit Milch und Fleisch, das frisch, getrocknet oder als Wurst verzehrt wird. Die Aufgaben sind zwischen Männern und Frauen klar verteilt: Die Männer schlachten das Vieh, und die Frauen stellen Butter her, die sie in Lhasa auf dem Butter-Markt verkaufen. Der Markt ist riesig und das Angebot aufgrund der großen Nachfrage enorm. So sind hier natürlich auch die vier tibetischen Schätze im Angebot: Schwarztee, Tsampa (geröstetes Getreide, vor allem Gerste), Yak- oder Schafsfleisch sowie Butter stellen in jedem Haushalt eine wichtige Energiequelle dar.
Weiter führt die Reise in ein tibetisches Kloster, in dem 800 Mönche leben und in dem Wein aus gegärter Gerste hergestellt wird. Im Gegensatz zu Lhasa, einer mit jedem Komfort des 21. Jahrhunderts ausgestatteten und stark von chinesischen und indischen Einflüssen geprägten Stadt, ist der Alltag in den tibetischen Bergdörfern seit Jahrhunderten unverändert.
Eine Besonderheit in manchen Regionen Tibets ist das "Ginseng-Schwein", das auch tibetisches Schwein genannt wird. Dessen Fleisch weist aufgrund seiner ungewöhnlichen Ernährung, die aus unterschiedlichen Pflanzen, Früchten und eben Ginseng besteht, besondere Qualitätsmerkmale auf. Wie dieses außergewöhnliche Tier zu schlachten ist, bringen die Väter ihren Söhnen bei, und der Schlachtprozess wird stets vom Patriarchen des Dorfes überwacht.

Why is Tibet Important to China:
Before 1959, the present area of the Tibet Autonomous Region was governed by the government of Tibet (headed by the Dalai Lama). But, today, Tibet is part of China. Tibet is the second-largest province of China by area. The Communist government of China believe that Tibet is their territory and "reclaimed" at the end of its civil war. Here is several reason why Tibet is important to China.
First, Tibet's strategic significant of China's geopolitical. As we know, Tibet serving as a buffer region between China and India. Control of Tibet gave China a boundary with Pakistan, and access to the Arabian Sea. Tibet would also have threatened Beijing's access to Xinjiang. Tibet is a vital link between China, south and central Asia.
Second, Tibet's natural energy resources. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and the China State Power Group, The Tibet has 448.2 billion cubic meters of water. Tibet producing approximately 200 million kw of natural hydro energy annually, or about 30 percent of China's total. Tibet also rich in geothermal, solar and wind energy. More than 100 sites in Tibet have good geothermal energy reserves.
Third, Tibet's mineral resources. Since 1999, Chinese geologists have discovered more than 600 new sites of copper, iron, lead and zinc ore deposits on Tibet. 11 mineral reserves including chromium, iron, lithium, copper and boron rank first-fifth in China. China ships its own experts and workers to Tibet to remove these resources. The China-Tibet railroad is allowing for faster extraction of iron, copper, natural gas, and oil from Tibet.
Fourth, forestry in Tibet. Tibet has one of the oldest forest reserves in central Asia. As we know, southern, eastern and southeastern parts of Tibet have alpine, temperate,sub-tropical and even tropical forests. With forest coverage stands at 9.8% of the area, Tibet being one of China's biggest forest areas. Tibet has one of the greatest resources of the economic plants in use of making fabrics, spices, food and paper, etc.
Fifth, Tibet's tourism. Tourism in Tibet is a large part of China's business interest here. Tibet is home to the Buddhist and the area is picturesque and old. Thats why, Tibet is interesting for tourist. In recent years Tibet's tourism has expanded rapidly, especially after the finish of Qingzang Railway in July 2006. Unfortunately, spirituality, now, mixes with commercialism in Tibet. Usually, young monks running up to tourist, and asking for money.
Ironically, according to a new UN report on the quality of life of the Tibetan people indicates that Tibetans are virtually at the bottom of the economic and social ladder. Most of the economic benefits from Tibet go to migrant Han Chinese. Tibet still remains one of China's poorest spots.

Tibet Autonomous Region
The Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) or Xizang Autonomous Region, called Tibet or Xizang (Tibetan: བོད་ ; Chinese: 西藏; pinyin: Xīzàng) for short, is a province-level autonomous region of the People's Republic of China (PRC). It was created in 1965 on the basis of Tibet's incorporation by the PRC in 1951.
Within China, Tibet is identified as an Autonomous Region. The current borders of Tibet were generally established in the 18th century and include about half of ethno-cultural Tibet. The Tibet Autonomous Region is the second-largest province-level division of China by area, spanning over 1,200,000 square kilometres (460,000 sq mi), after Xinjiang, and mostly due to its harsh and rugged terrain, is the least densely populated provincial-level division of the PRC.
History
Modern scholars still debate on the exact nature of relations between Tibet and the Chinese Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and whether the Ming had sovereignty over Tibet after the Mongol conquest of Tibet and Yuan administrative rule in the 13th and 14th centuries. While Tibet has formally been a protectorate of China and under administrative rule of the Qing dynasty (1644–1912) since 1720, from 1912 to 1950 Tibet was dissolved of suzerainty under China proper as a result of the Xinhai Revolution and concentration of the central government fighting against the Japanese invasion during World War II. Other parts of ethno-cultural Tibet (eastern Kham and Amdo) have also been under the administration of the Chinese dynastic government since the mid-eighteenth century; today they are distributed among the provinces of Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan. Before 1959, the present area of the Tibet Autonomous Region was governed by the government of Tibet (headed by the Dalai Lama). But, today, Tibet is part of China. Tibet is the second-largest province of China by area. The Communist government of China believe that Tibet is their territory and "reclaimed" at the end of its civil war. Here is several reason why Tibet is important to China.
First, Tibet's strategic significant of China's geopolitical. As we know, Tibet serving as a buffer region between China and India. Control of Tibet gave China a boundary with Pakistan, and access to the Arabian Sea. Tibet would also have threatened Beijing's access to Xinjiang. Tibet is a vital link between China, south and central Asia.
Second, Tibet's natural energy resources. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and the China State Power Group, The Tibet has 448.2 billion cubic meters of water. Tibet producing approximately 200 million kw of natural hydro energy annually, or about 30 percent of China's total. Tibet also rich in geothermal, solar and wind energy. More than 100 sites in Tibet have good geothermal energy reserves.
Third, Tibet's mineral resources. Since 1999, Chinese geologists have discovered more than 600 new sites of copper, iron, lead and zinc ore deposits on Tibet. 11 mineral reserves including chromium, iron, lithium, copper and boron rank first-fifth in China. China ships its own experts and workers to Tibet to remove these resources. The China-Tibet railroad is allowing for faster extraction of iron, copper, natural gas, and oil from Tibet.
Fourth, forestry in Tibet. Tibet has one of the oldest forest reserves in central Asia. As we know, southern, eastern and southeastern parts of Tibet have alpine, temperate,sub-tropical and even tropical forests. With forest coverage stands at 9.8% of the area, Tibet being one of China's biggest forest areas. Tibet has one of the greatest resources of the economic plants in use of making fabrics, spices, food and paper, etc.
Fifth, Tibet's tourism. Tourism in Tibet is a large part of China's business interest here. Tibet is home to the Buddhist and the area is picturesque and old. Thats why, Tibet is interesting for tourist. In recent years Tibet's tourism has expanded rapidly, especially after the finish of Qingzang Railway in July 2006. Unfortunately, spirituality, now, mixes with commercialism in Tibet. Usually, young monks running up to tourist, and asking for money.
Ironically, according to a new UN report on the quality of life of the Tibetan people indicates that Tibetans are virtually at the bottom of the economic and social ladder. Most of the economic benefits from Tibet go to migrant Han Chinese. Tibet still remains one of China's poorest spots.

However, their plans fall apart with Chris being hospitalised with severe altitude sickness. Will they succeed with their quest for Everest? The first episode sees their journey begin in Beijing where they visit the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City, before taking a 2 day train to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, travelling on the highest railway in the world. This ‘temple of a thousand images of god’ is nevertheless very popular among devout Buddhists and is a place of silent prayer. The Yarlung Valley is full of history such as possessing the oldest field in Tibet, as well as the oldest village that is located at the foot of the country’s oldest fortress, Yom Bu La Khang, the rock palace of the country’s first mystic king. One of the largest monuments in Tibetan architecture is the unique Kumbum Chörten, a three-dimensional mandala that can be entered. Eyes decorate the upper part of the Stupa. The ritual walkabout begins on the lowest level with simple deities then follows the entire Pantheon of Tibet, immortalised in both sculptures and wall paintings. Additional influences include rampant civil unrest within China, the forming of the Republic of China after the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911, Japanese aggression that tormented the people of China for many years, and finally, the involvement of the United States (namely the CIA) in using the 14th Dalai Lama as a poster-child and ally in its Anti-Communist agenda during the Cold War.
Before 1959, the year the People's Liberation Army of China quelled the Upper-Class Tibetan Revolt, the vast majority of Tibetans were subjected to slavery and serfdom, a major issue that is chronically ignored in any popular assessment of Chinese-Tibetan history. Once the Dalai Lama fled to India, the Central Government of China eliminated the practice of slavery and serfdom in Tibet. The film documents this change and the results it has had for the average Tibetan over recent decades.
Ultimately, the goal of 'TIBET - The Truth' is to turn popular culture on its head and encourage a more empathetic and educated dialog between the East and West. With knowledge and perspective, humans are better-equipped to engage in cross-cultural relations.
