La Llorona is the first album by Canadian singer Lhasa de Sela, released in 1997 in Canada and 1998 elsewhere.
Alejandro Sela, Lhasa's father, received his doctorate on literature of the Spanish conquest of Mexico and taught her of the legend of La Llorona.[1] This is the folktale of the crying woman, resembled the mythological wife of Quetzalcoatl who has lost her children. For Lhasa, La Llorona comes from the omen of conquerors. Lhasa believes that the woman cried when the Spanish arrived in America to warn her native children of the doom that the conquistadors would bring to their way of life.

Now an autonomous region of China,.Tibet is an intriguing and mysterious land of snow high up in the Himalayas that borders Nepal, Bhutan and India. For centuries it was a dream destination for scientists, adventurers and missionaries and, once almost inaccessible, it was a blossoming yet hidden kingdom. Lhasa, the ‘holy city’ and ‘place of the gods’ is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city.The Jokhang Temple was originally built as a shrine for a special Buddha statue. In the seventh century the statue was a valuable wedding gift from the Chinese Emperor to Princess Wen Chen who had it transported to Lhasa. Around seven kilometres west of Lhasa’s city centre is the old summer residence of various former Dalai Lamas. The Norbuling Ka, Garden Of Gems, has been deserted since the end of the 1950’s because in 1959 the last Dalai Lama was forced into exile by the Chinese. A pilgrim trail leads up to Drepung Gonba that was built in 1416 by a scholar of Tsongkhapa who was the founder of the Gelug Order. The Gelug Academy is the earliest of the four main doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism and the followers of this order are also known as Yellow Caps. Lhasa is a a city of gods on the roof of the world and is undoubtedly one of the last mysterious locations on Earth.

Die Bahnlinie von Peking nach Lhasa wurde am 1. Juli 2006 feierlich eröffnet, eine Meisterleistung chinesischer Ingenieurskunst. Mit dem Bau der Bahn hat Tibet viel von seinem Mythos des Geheimnisvollen und der Unerreichbarkeit verloren. Seit China 1950 mit der Roten Armee des großen Vorsitzenden Mao Zedong das Land besetzte, war es ein Traum der Chinesen, durch dieses Großobjekts seinen neuen Westen zu erschließen. Zum 85. Jahrestag der Kommunistischen Partei ist dieser Traum wahr geworden: Ein Wunder der Bautechnik, das selbst Fachleute nicht für möglich gehalten hätten. Dies ist sicherlich Leistung und Problem zugleich. Die letzten 1000 km der insgesamt 4000 km langen Stecke sind komplett neu gebaut worden. Im Sommer taut der Boden an der Oberfläche auf, darunter ist Dauerfrost. Da die Festigkeit der Strecke darunter leiden kann, wurden tausende von Kühlstäben in den Boden getrieben. Die höchste Stelle der Linie liegt am Tanggula Pass auf exakt 5.072 Metern. Niemals zuvor hat eine Eisenbahn eine solche Höhe erreicht. Zwar ist ein neues aufregendes Kapitel in der weltweiten Eisenbahngeschichte geschrieben, ob aber die einzigartige Kultur der Tibeter dies überleben kann? Unsere Reise war traumhaft. Die Erinnerungen daran werden in vielen Geschichten stark und lebendig bleiben.

Lhasa
Lhasa is a city and administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The main urban area of Lhasa is roughly equivalent to the administrative borders of Chengguan District, which is part of the wider Lhasa prefecture-level city, an area formerly administered as a prefecture.
Lhasa is the second most populous city on the Tibetan Plateau after Xining and, at an altitude of 3,490 metres (11,450 ft), Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. The city has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid-17th century. It contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka Palaces.
Etymology
Lhasa literally means "place of the gods". Ancient Tibetan documents and inscriptions demonstrate that the place was called Rasa, which either meant "goats' place", or, as a contraction of rawe sa, a "place surrounded by a wall," or 'enclosure', suggesting that the site was originally a hunting preserve within the royal residence on Marpori Hill. Lhasa is first recorded as the name, referring to the area's temple of Jowo, in a treaty drawn up between China and Tibet in 822 C.E.

La Llorona is the first album by Canadian singer Lhasa de Sela, released in 1997 in Canada and 1998 elsewhere. Alejandro Sela, Lhasa's father, received his doctorate on literature of the Spanish conquest of Mexico and taught her of the legend of La Llorona.[1] This is the folktale of the crying woman, resembled the mythological wife of Quetzalcoatl who has lost her children. For Lhasa, La Llorona comes from the omen of conquerors. Lhasa believes that the woman cried when the Spanish arrived in America to warn her native children of the doom that the conquistadors would bring to their way of life. Die Bahnlinie von Peking nach Lhasa wurde am 1. Juli 2006 feierlich eröffnet, eine Meisterleistung chinesischer Ingenieurskunst. Mit dem Bau der Bahn hat Tibet viel von seinem Mythos des Geheimnisvollen und der Unerreichbarkeit verloren. Seit China 1950 mit der Roten Armee des großen Vorsitzenden Mao Zedong das Land besetzte, war es ein Traum der Chinesen, durch dieses Großobjekts seinen neuen Westen zu erschließen. Zum 85. Jahrestag der Kommunistischen Partei ist dieser Traum wahr geworden: Ein Wunder der Bautechnik, das selbst Fachleute nicht für möglich gehalten hätten. The Norbuling Ka, Garden Of Gems, has been deserted since the end of the 1950’s because in 1959 the last Dalai Lama was forced into exile by the Chinese. A pilgrim trail leads up to Drepung Gonba that was built in 1416 by a scholar of Tsongkhapa who was the founder of the Gelug Order. The Gelug Academy is the earliest of the four main doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism and the followers of this order are also known as Yellow Caps. Lhasa is a a city of gods on the roof of the world and is undoubtedly one of the last mysterious locations on Earth.
