The Quartet on the Middle East or Middle East Quartet, sometimes called the Diplomatic Quartet or Madrid Quartet or simply the Quartet, is a foursome of nations and international and supranational entities involved in mediating the peace process in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Quartet are the United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and Russia. The group was established in Madrid in 2002, recalling Madrid Conference of 1991, as a result of the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Tony Blair resigned as the Quartet's Special Envoy on 27 May 2015.
The initiative to establish the Quartet evolved following the outbreak of the Second Intifada in September 2000 and the futile cease-fire attempts that followed. On October 25, 2001, representatives of the EU, UN and the US and Russian governments met Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and jointly expressed support for his policy of implementing cease-fire and security reforms in the Palestinian Authority. During the Israeli incursions into Palestinian areas in April 2002, the representatives of the same four entities met in Madrid and again called for implementation of cease-fire agreements brokered by the US government before. In the same meeting, they also agreed to transform their quadripartite cooperation into a permanent forum for follow-up of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

They combine whatever can possibly be combined with their beloved classical music: tango, chansons, folk and film soundtrack. As a quartet – Angelika and Iris were joined in 2008 by Anne-Monika von Twardowski at the grand piano and Sonja Lena Schmid on cello – they are virtuosic soloists yet unbeatable as an ensemble of musicians each of whom perform an essential part to create the perfect interplay of virtuosic classical prowess peppered with cabaret-st...
The first quartet of Gulf Coast Bible College, originally organized as a trio in 1953 (the first year of the school's existence) consisting of Paul Kendall, Herschel Duncan and my grandfather, Charles Long. In 1954, they were joined by Fred Wilson and called themselves the King's Four. These recordings were provided to me by the late Herschel Duncan's wife, Marlene. My grandfather, aged 81, is the only surviving member of the quartet and still has the lyrics to these songs committed to heart. I apologize for the low audio and sketchy photo transition. Some of these recordings were taken in Chicago and others in Louisville, KY. Herschel Duncan - Lead Charles Long - Bass Fred Wilson - First Tenor Paul Kendall - Baritone Tracklist: 1.) Listen to the full audiobook: http://appgame.space/mabk/30/en/B00N6PD4MM/book From Pulitzer Prizewinning American historian Joseph J. Ellis, the unexpected story of why the thirteen colonies, having just fought off the imposition of a distant centralized governing power, would decide to subordinate themselves anew. We all know the famous opening phrase of Lincolns Gettysburg Address: four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this Continent a new Nation. The truth is different. In 1776, thirteen American colonies declared themselves independent states that only temporarily joined forces in order to defeat the British. Once victorious, they planned to go their separate ways. The triumph of the American Revolution was neither an ideological nor a political guarantee that the...
Metro's 2001 compilation Espionage: The Very Best of the James Taylor Quartet collects much of the best of the James Taylor Quartet's recordings from the early '90s, capturing their stylishly funky acid jazz quite well. There are two covers of Booker T. & the MG's -- "Green Onions" and "Be My Girl" -- some '60s and '70s film and TV covers ("Mission Impossible," "Blow Up," "Theme from Dirty Harry," "Starsky and Hutch") and those two extremes pretty much capture what the quartet sounds like: funky soul given a cinematic spin. This well-chosen, well-annotated collection provides a good introduction to their world. Trackllistings 1. Mission Imposible 2. Be My Girl 3. Untitled no 1 4. Blow Up 5. Green Onions [Live] 6. Cat 7. I took part in a Barbershop Quartet for my last choir concert in high school. This was an original piece written by a member of the Quartet. Hope you enjoy! : )
Sheet music available here – http://charlespeckmusic.com/product/rift-shade-for-string-quartet/ I. Rift – begins at 0:12 II. Shade – begins at 3:32 Program Notes: The concept for this piece began with an interest in continual and dramatic contrast. As the music was taking shape, the title Rift & Shade came to represent a visual manifestation of this idea. With only a small rift in the walls of a cavern, a piercing light and a deep shade can coexist in the same environment. The quartet mimics the stark contrasts of this image musically. In the first movement, the contrast is realized with a rapid alternation between several short gestures, each of which occupies a unique sonic space. In the second movement, the quick timbral changes are replaced by extreme registral contrasts, with the vi...

Ellis, award-winning author of The Founding Fathers and American Sphinx, and perhaps the leading historian of the American Revolution, here considers that turbulent period from the perspective of the thirteen colonies. Asking why these regions would want to trade a new and hard-won autonomy for the possibility of subjugation to another state, Ellis looks at the series of steps that guaranteed states’ rights, and profiles the men who guided the Constitutional Convention. The String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, known as Death and the Maiden, by Franz Schubert, is one of the pillars of the chamber music repertoire. Composed in 1824, after the composer suffered through a serious illness and realized that he was dying, it is Schubert's testament to death. The quartet is named for the theme of the second movement, which Schubert took from a song he wrote in 1817 of the same title; but the theme of death is palpable in all four movements of the quartet. The quartet was first played in 1826 in a private home, and was not published until 1831, three years after Schubert's death. Yet, passed over in his lifetime, the quartet has become a staple of the quartet repertoire. It is D. 810 in Otto Erich Deutsch's thematic catalog of Schubert's works. The quartet takes it...
It's hard to know exactly
when my dreams got weird
I tense up and get antsy when you're near
But nightly you appear to me
ghostly in my head
but I never can remember what you said
It must be something reassuring
something sweet and kind
something you would never say in real life
Where does it go in the morning
It slipped out of my hand
Eating breakfast with my other thoughts
away from wakeful lands
Where is the you I created
the you that I adore?
When my eyes are open I don't see you anymore
It's hard for me to fathom
that you disappeared
and turned into exactly what I feared
But every night you sing to me
when my eyes are closed
But I never can remember how it goes
It must be something undeserving
only in my mind
Something you would never sing on your time
It disappears without warning
It shifts like grains of sand
Galavanting with some other dreams
I didn't understand
Where is the you I created
the you that I adore?
When my eyes are open I don't see you anymore
But nightly you appear to me
ghostly in my head
but I never can remember what you said
