Jyn Erso, I am your father ...
Rumors have swirled that “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” starring Felicity Jones as rebel fighter Jyn might underwhelm after the success of “Force Awakens.” Reshoots were ordered, which is never a good sign, and even Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed that the newest installment in the franchise was a bit of an “experiment.”
Set before the events of the original 1977 movie, “Rogue One” follows a band of rebels who attempt to steal the plans for the Empire’s Death Star before a cataclysmic weapons test.
If there was anything, however, to assuage our concerns it would be a new trailer that plays on all the familiar “Star Wars” pleasure centers: mysterious parentage, kinetic battle scenes, jaw-dropping set pieces and Darth freaking Vader.
We might know how this all turns out ― the Death Star is eventually destroyed ― but it looks like there are still many a “Star Wars” surprise in store.
“Rogue One” hits theaters Dec. 16, 2016.
