Lānaʻi (/ləˈnaɪ/; Hawaiian: [laːˈnɐʔi] or [naːˈnɐʔi]) is the sixth-largest of the Hawaiian Islands and the smallest publicly accessible inhabited island in the chain. It is also known as Pineapple Island because of its past as an island-wide pineapple plantation. The island's only settlement of note is the small town of Lānaʻi City. As of 2012, the island was 98% owned by Larry Ellison (Founder and Chairman of Oracle), with the remaining 2% owned by the state of Hawaii.
Lānaʻi is a roughly comma-shaped island with a width of 18 miles (29 km) in the longest direction. The land area is 140.5 square miles (364 km2), making it the 42nd largest island in the United States. It is separated from the island of Molokaʻi by the Kalohi Channel to the north, and from Maui by the ʻAuʻau Channel to the east. The United States Census Bureau defines Lānaʻi as Census Tract 316 of Maui County. Its total population shrank from 3,193 as of the 2000 census to 3,102 as of 2010. Many of the island's landmarks are accessible only by dirt roads that require a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Hi my foxes, today you'll be visiting the island of Lanai. Sixth largest of the Hawaiian islands. Lanai is 18 miles long, with a population of approximately 3000. There are no stop lights on the island and only a few main roads are paved, many landmarks are accessible only by dirt roads. If you plan to go exploring and get off the beaten path, rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle. However, if you're coming over from Maui on a day trip and just want to relax on the beach and walk around town (Lanai City), it's not necessary to rent a car. After departing the ferry at the Manele Small Boat Harbor, it's a short 5 minute walk to Hulopo'e beach, a sunny white sand beach and marine preserve. It's an overall beautiful beach to relax on, snorkel, watch dolphins, enjoy a picnic, go for a hike along the...

http://www.hawaii-aloha.com/ - There are two resort hotels on Lānaʻi, both managed by Four Seasons Hotels; the Four Seasons Resort Manele and the Lodge at Kōʻele. In addition, in Lānaʻi City, there is the Hotel Lānaʻi which was built in 1923 by James Dole of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company as a lodge to house the executives overseeing the island's pineapple production. It was the island's only hotel until 1990. In Lānaʻi City, there are no traffic lights, no shopping malls, and no public transportation. Most of the attractions on the island outside of the hotels and town can be visited only via dirt roads that may require a four-wheel drive vehicle.

In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. On this part of the island, clouds form at the base of the volcano, and as the sun rises, a myriad of colors form and provide an unforgettable visual experience. Next I throw on a wet suit and hit the waves to learn how to surf -- my first time ever. Though I've ridden the New York City subway after happy hour before, I was still a little unsure about how my balance would be on a surfboard. Luckily, the surf instructor had a black labrador dog out on her board with us in case anything went terribly wrong. Finally, I wrap up the day by heading to the beach with a ukulele to have a jam session with a local Maui resident and ...

well he fell from the skies
with a sense he devised
and he dropped out of school
with his evil sunglasses
and the desert he crossed
was a picture to see
roll in the sand
he had it all in his hand
(chorus)
you're gonna live forever
we can see you roll in the sand
he was a bungling thief
turning fiction to fact
and back at the hill
they want him to act
