Contrary to media statements by Labor leader Bill Shorten yesterday, the bulk billing incentive for diagnostic imaging remains unchanged as of 1 July 2016. Patients should continue to present for the x-rays and scans their doctor has referred them for.

The Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association (ADIA) has welcomed Labor’s commitment to maintain bulk billing incentives for general patients, but is calling upon Labor to fix the hidden gap in its Medicare platform by ending the 18-year rebate freeze in diagnostic imaging to protect patient access to safe and affordable x-rays and scans.
