Bankstown rapper Noor Raad charged with procuring 12-year-old girl for sex

An aspiring rapper from Sydney's south-west has been charged with having sex with a 12-year-old girl he met through social media.

Noor Raad, who raps under the name Thundah MC, was arrested at his home in Bankstown on Tuesday after a tip-off to the State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad that an underage girl had been procured online for sex.

Noor Raad, 21, allegedly used social media to procure a 12-year-old girl for sex.

Police will allege Raad, 21, spoke to the young girl on social media and then arranged to meet her in person.

They allegedly met once in May and had sexual intercourse.

He has been charged with sexual intercourse with a child aged 10-16 and using a carriage service to procure persons under 16 years of age.

Police searched his unit on Tuesday and seized a mobile phone, desktop computers, laptops, cameras, portable media and storage devices including USBs.

Two days before his arrest, he posted a message on Facebook saying; "Feeling really down atm [at the moment]".

Raad appears to be an avid social media user with a small fan base across Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, Snapchat, Kik and Soundcloud.

In one post, he said he started rapping this year and practises every day, hoping to achieve "greatness".

He is an occasional user of live video-sharing website YouNow and has shared videos of young girls singing pop songs or talking to him.

His raps often contain references to Bankstown's 2200 postcode.

Raad applied for bail in Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday but was refused.

He will reappear in Burwood Local Court on November 23.

A police spokesman said the Child Abuse Squad urged any person with information about child procurement to report the matter.

"The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect," he said.

Police also urged parents and children "to be mindful of the dangers associated with the internet".

Information on internet safety is available on the NSW Police website.
