Ruthin (i/ˈrɪθɪn/ RITH-in; Welsh: Rhuthun) is the county town of Denbighshire in north Wales. Located around a hill in the southern part of the Vale of Clwyd - the older part of the town, the castle and Saint Peter's Square are located on top of the hill, while many newer parts of the town are on the floodplain of the River Clwyd (which became apparent on several occasions in the late 1990s—new flood control works costing £3 million were inaugurated in autumn 2003). Ruthin also has villages on the outskirts of the town such as Pwllglas and Rhewl.
The name 'Ruthin' comes from the Welsh words rhudd (red) and din (fort), and refers to the colour of the new red sandstone which forms the geologic basis of the area, and from which the castle was constructed in 1277-1284. The original name of Ruthin was 'Castell Coch yng Ngwern-fôr' (red castle in the sea-swamps). The town developed around the castle and the nearby mill. Maen Huail is a registered ancient monument attributed to the brother of Gildas and King Arthur and is located outside Barclays Bank (formerly Exmewe House), on St Peter's Square.
North Wales (Welsh: Gogledd Cymru) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales. Retail, transport and educational infrastructure are centred on Wrexham, Rhyl, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and Bangor. It is bordered to the south by the counties of Ceredigion and Powys in Mid Wales, and to the east by the counties of Shropshire in the West Midlands and Cheshire in North West England.
North Wales was traditionally divided into three regions: Upper Gwynedd (or Gwynedd above the Conwy), defined as the area north of the River Dyfi and west of the River Conwy); Lower Gwynedd (or Gwynedd below the Conwy, also known as the Perfeddwlad and defined as the region east of the River Conwy and west of the River Dee); and Ynys Môn (or Anglesey), a large island off the north coast..
The southern boundary is arbitrary and its definition may depend on the use being made of the term. For example, the boundary of North Wales Police differs from the boundary of the North Wales area of the Natural Resources Wales and the North Wales Regional Transport Consortium (Taith). The historic boundary follows the pre 1996 county boundaries of Merionethshire and Denbighshire which in turn closely follows the geographic features of the river Dovey to Aran Fawddwy, then crossing the high moorlands following the watershed until reaching Cadair Berwyn, and then following the river Rhaeadr and river Tanat to the Shropshire border. Montgomeryshire is sometimes referred to as being in northern (but not North) Wales.

Subscribe to SHABL - http://bit.ly/1uR4ogG I visit lots of Welsh castles in North Wales aka it was an amazing day. We visited Ruthin Castle as well as checked out the old medieval town square before hitting the road. First up was Denbigh Castle and by the end of the day we visited Rhuddlan Castle, St. Asaph Cathedral, St. Trillo’s Chapel, the coastal town of Llandudno and even the Great Orme. It was busy but great in every which way and I really enjoyed it. The more castles I see in North Wales, the more I want to see. It's fascinating for anyone into this type of stuff with an active imagination. I just wish that during the civil war they weren't all basically destroyed; imagine what they must have been like in their former glory?! The Welsh Castles are worth the trek. This is the bl...
Modern Wales, thanks to its rich medieval history, was left with a good deal of historical heritage and architectural marvels. Incredible nature of the country creates a perfect harmony with medieval architectural items. Nowadays, Wales is the country with the biggest number of castles in the world – there are over 300 of them in such a relatively small country. Subscribe to SHABL - http://bit.ly/1uR4ogG I take a trip to North Wales from London, England. It starts with a train to Chester before meeting up with my new friend John from Boutique Tours and heading into Wales. There the road trip begins and we visit Hawarden Farm for lunch before visiting the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct along the Llangollen Canal, the city of Llangollen and finally the Valle Crucis Abbey on the way to Ruthin. Once in Ruthin we see the Ruthin Castle Hotel where I'm staying and that concludes the episode. http://stophavingaboringlife.com/discovering-north-wales/ Above is the original blog post I wrote about the day.
The trip guide explains the connection to Alice in Wonderland. Llandudno was the holiday destination resort of the real Alice in Wonderland, Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired Lewis Carroll and for whom he based his worldwide famous story on, Alice in Wonderland. She first came to the resort in 1861 aged 8 and stayed at the Tudno Villa Apartments now, the St Tudno Hotel on Llandudno’s North Shore. Alice Liddell used to visit Llandudno and stay in her holiday home Penmorfa, with her family. Their holiday home was built on Llandudno’s West Shore and was later developed into a popular Hotel with its famous background. Lewis Carroll become a close friend of the family and it is believed by many that it was Alice’s adventures whilst on holiday in Llandudno, later recounted to Lewis Carroll th...

Join SHABL aka Subscribe - http://bit.ly/1uR4ogG A slice of life living in Tirana, Albania. This is my last day unfortunately and go about the business that people usually do before the leave somewhere cool and affordable. Stock up on stuff, eat lots of good food and further explore the area. Tirana has a bad rep like most of Albania and from what I experienced, it's totally unwarranted. I had a fantastic time trying a bit of living in Tirana and living in Albania in general. I say living in as opposed to visiting because I didn't really do much touristy stuff compared to just go about my day to day life while I was there. Tirana and Albania in general are places I'd like to return to one day during the summer to get another taste; cool spot. Alex - http://findingthefreedom.com A trav...

"To get out of smell of mould, to get back on your feet again - let every
god have his day" - and again the leather is black as i lie on fragments of
glass, more broke than ever - no more ti amo - trying not to hate the guts
we all have - 'cause i got the guts and i feel the guilt - now we still hate
it when we play the part of the greek - vanhaa suolaa siihen haavaan joka
vuotaa edelleen - and who swore not to let it out in here just to see the
boots rot away in one's feet - so better ring the bell of whoredom if it
wants to ring, or just forget all perverse offerings - the writhing stays
the same even if you got the guts and you feel the guilt - now we still hate
