When Vince McMahon attempted to build for the future without Hulk Hogan in 1992-93 & push actual ring ability instead of muscles & size which the WWF was built on, it met with the worst run of business in company history. SummerSlam & Survivor Series buyrates were way down & Royal Rumble was the lowest buyrate of any WWF PPV in history. Bret Hart was given the opportunity to be champion & from a financial standpoint, it didn't work. McMahon felt he needed Hogan back or WrestleMania would suffer a similar fate. Hogan returned at WrestleMania IX teaming with Brutus Beefcake to defeat Money Inc. by DQ. Then in an unprecedented series of events ended the show as WWF champion after defeating Yokozuna in just 21 seconds. WrestleMania, largely due to the appearance of Hogan, did a far less severe year-to-year decline than any of the WWF PPV events during the period he was gone, showing Hogan's worth.
“When it comes to crowd control, Hogan from the second half of 1981, when he turned babyface in the AWA, through the remainder of his in-ring career was the greatest ever. No wrestler could read & work an audience better. Even Steve Austin wasn't willing to take Hogan on in 2002. Bret Hart should thank his lucky stars that Hogan chose to drop the WWF title to Yokozuna in summer 1993. Bret Hart (born July 2, 1957) is a Canadian American writer, actor and retired professional wrestler currently signed with WWE under a Legends contract. Like others in the Hart wrestling family, Hart has an amateur wrestling background, including wrestling at Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. Along with his famed "Hit Man" nickname, Hart was known by the monikers "The Excellence of Execution", "The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be" and "The Pink and Black Attack"—the latter being in reference to his ring attire, as well as his signature mirrored sunglasses, which he routinely gave away to a young audience member before matches.

Michael Shawn Hickenbottom (born July 22, 1965), better known by his ring name Shawn Michaels, is a retired professional wrestler, and an American television host. He is currently signed to WWE, where he has served as an ambassador for the company since December 2010. Hickenbottom consistently wrestled for WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), from 1988 until his first retirement in 1998, due to injury. He appeared in non-wrestling roles from 1998 to 2000, and resumed his in-ring career in 2002, retiring in 2010. He also hosts the show MacMillan River Adventures, airing on the Outdoor Channel.
Hickenbottom began his wrestling career with Mid-South Wrestling, now known as Universal Wrestling Federation, and American Wrestling Association (AWA). During his time with AWA, he performed in partnership with Marty Jannetty, as The Midnight Rockers; winning the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice. Hickenbottom and Jannetty briefly signed with World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1987, while in contract with AWA. They returned to AWA, only to go back to the WWF in 1988.

Vincent Kennedy "Vince" McMahon (born August 24, 1945) is an American professional wrestling promoter, announcer, commentator, film producer, actor and former occasional professional wrestler. McMahon is the Chairman, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee of professional wrestling promotion WWE. Upon acquiring World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), McMahon's WWE became the sole remaining major American professional wrestling promotion (until the national expansion of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Ring of Honor).
As an on-camera character, he can appear on all WWE brands (though the majority of the time, he appears on Raw). McMahon plays a character known by the ring name Mr. McMahon, based on his real life persona. In the world of WWE, he is a two-time world champion, having won the WWF Championship and ECW World Championship. He was also the winner of the 1999 Royal Rumble.
Vince is the husband of Linda McMahon, with whom he ran WWE from its establishment in 1980 until she resigned as the CEO in September 2009.

When Vince McMahon attempted to build for the future without Hulk Hogan in 1992-93 & push actual ring ability instead of muscles & size which the WWF was built on, it met with the worst run of business in company history. SummerSlam & Survivor Series buyrates were way down & Royal Rumble was the lowest buyrate of any WWF PPV in history. Bret Hart was given the opportunity to be champion & from a financial standpoint, it didn't work. McMahon felt he needed Hogan back or WrestleMania would suffer a similar fate. When Vince McMahon attempted to build for the future without Hulk Hogan in 1992-93 & push actual ring ability instead of muscles & size which the WWF was built on, it met with the worst run of business in company history. SummerSlam & Survivor Series buyrates were way down & Royal Rumble was the lowest buyrate of any WWF PPV in history. Bret Hart was given the opportunity to be champion & from a financial standpoint, it didn't work. McMahon felt he needed Hogan back or WrestleMania would suffer a similar fate. Hogan returned at WrestleMania IX teaming with Brutus Beefcake to defeat Money Inc. by DQ. Then in an unprecedented series of events ended the show as WWF champion after defeating Yokozuna in just 21 seconds. WrestleMania, largely due to the appearance of Hogan, did a far less severe year-to-year decline than any of the WWF PPV events during the period he was gone, showing Hogan's worth.

No wrestler could read & work an audience better. Even Steve Austin wasn't willing to take Hogan on in 2002.
