Mount Osore (恐山, Osore-zan) is a caldera volcano in the center of remote Shimokita Peninsula of Aomori Prefecture, Japan. According to the Smithsonian National Museum of National History, it peaks at 879 meters (or 2,884 feet) and its last eruption was noted in 1787 (Global). While known regionally as Mount Osore, it is locally referred to as Yake-yama (or “Burning Mountain”) due to minimal activity which occurred throughout the past century. According to WAttention website, this site was established as a place of reverence by Jikakutaishi, a Buddhist monk, in 862 AD.
Mount Osore is Place of memorial to the dead. (Shimokita Peninsula of Aomori Prefecture, Japan. ) More Info : http://cruising-japan.com/osorezan/

Sengoku Basara 3: Samurai Heroes, a beat em up with the familiar Samurai Characters. Allthough this game is not made by Koei but by Capcom, for the Wii and PS3. The gameplay/controls are sleightly different from the games made by Koei. All playable characters have four base skills, each mapped to a specific button (or combination of buttons) on the controller. Additionally, all characters have three "super skills". While only one super skill can be mapped at any time, those skills can be changed between battles in the preparation menu once they are all unlocked. This game adds a strategic element with the base system. In the map there are blue and red patches, which denotes allied and enemy areas. There is an officer standing on a platform in that area, acting as the base commander....

Eerie. Sulfuric. Hissing. A few of the words used in our travel guide, and more intriguing than those of a typical Japanese destination. We headed north to the Aomori prefecture to witness these curious adjectives first hand. Once in Mutsu, we boarded the local bus to Mt. Osorezen. The road up the mountain proved scenic. Subtly, quietly, slow chanting was piped through the buses intercom, electronic ghosts in the crackling of broken speakers. A glance at the only other foreigner we'd seen for half a week brought a moment of comfort as we shared a similar edition of the Lonely Planet. Comrades via travelogue! The brakes squeaked in discordant harmony and there was an unannounced, (or perhaps announced - who knows) roadside stop to a mountain spring. The locals escaped the bus to fill ...

See in Japan =============== Castles ------------- When most Westerners think of castles, they naturally think of their own in places like England and France. However, Japan too was a nation of castle-builders. In its feudal days, you could find multiple castles in nearly every prefecture. Original Castles Because of bombings in WWII, fires, edicts to tear down castles, etc. only twelve of Japan's castles are considered to be originals, which have donjons that date bac...

Osorezan(Mt. Fear), the gateway to Higan on the Aomori Peninsula, Japan. Lake Usori represents the Sanzu River(River Styx equivalent), surrounded by eight mountain peaks, resembling the Lotus.
Mount Osore is a caldera volcano in the center of remote Shimokita Peninsula of Aomori Prefecture, Japan. According to popular mythology, Mount Osore (literally "Mount Fear") marks the entrance to Hell, with a small brook running to the neighboring Lake Usori that is equated to the Sanzu River, a river that deceased souls needed to cross of their way to the afterlife. The Sanzu River, or “River of Three Crossings,” is believed to be the boundary between the realms of the living and the dead. Based on Buddhist beliefs, depending on how well a person lived their life dictates how easy their transition across the river will be, whether it be via a bridge, ford, or wading through snake-infested waters. There are four alleged Sanzu rivers in Japan; the one located near Mount Osore is the most n...

When SGHA was formed in 1985, its membership was soon composed primarily of members of the U.S. Armed Forces. This gave us an unique opportunity to investigate many locations outside of the continental United States. This video originally aired on our podcast Ecto Radio where Cody and other members of SGHA talked about a ghost hunt of Osorezan, the gate to Hell, located at the northern tip of Aomori Prefecture in Japan.
