The Lodi dynasty (Lodhi) (Persian: لودی) was a Pashtun dynasty that ruled Delhi Sultanate from 1451 to 1526. It was founded by Bahlul Khan Lodi when he replaced the Sayyid dynasty.
Lodhi dynasty's reign ended under Ibrahim Lodi, who was attacked by Rana Sanga of Mewar, Lodhi's reign finally ended after he was defeated by Babur from Kabul, founder of the Mughal Empire.
Bahlul Khan Lodi (r.1451–89) was the nephew and son-in-law of Malik Sultan Shah Lodi, the governor of Sirhind in (Punjab), India and succeeded him as the governor of Sirhind during the reign of Sayyid dynasty ruler Muhammad Shah (Muhammad-bin-Farid). Muhammad Shah raised him to the status of an Emir. He was the most powerful of the Punjab chiefs and a vigorous leader, holding together a loose confederacy of Afghan and Turkish chiefs with his strong personality. He reduced the turbulent chiefs of the provinces to submission and infused some vigour into the government. After the last Sayyid ruler of Delhi, Ala-ud-Din Alam Shah voluntarily abdicated in favour of him, Bahlul Khan Lodi ascended the throne of the Delhi sultanate on April 19, 1451. The most important event of his reign was the conquest of Jaunpur. Bahlul spent most of his time in fighting against the Sharqi dynasty and ultimately annexed it. He placed his eldest surviving son Barbak on the throne of Jaunpur in 1486.
Sikandar Lodi
Sikandar Lodi (r.1489–1517) (born Nizam Khan), the second son of Bahlul, succeeded him after his death on July 17, 1489 and took up the title Sikandar Shah. He was nominated by his father to succeed him and was crowned sultan on July 15, 1489. He founded Agra in 1504 and constructed mosques. He shifted the capital from Delhi to Agra. He abolished corn duties and patronized trade and commerce. He was a poet of repute. He composed under the pen-name of Gulruk. He was also patron of learning and ordered Sanskrit work in medicine to be translated into Persian. He curbed the individualistic tendencies of his Afghan nobles and compelled them to submit their accounts to state audit. He was, thus, able to infuse vigor and discipline in the administration. His greatest achievement was the conquest and annexation of Bihar
Sultan Ibrahim Khan Lodi (1517–1526), the youngest son of Sikandar, was the last Lodi Sultan of Delhi. Sultan Ibrahim had the qualities of an excellent warrior, but he was rash and impolitic in his decisions and actions. His attempt at royal absolutism was premature and his policy of sheer repression unaccompanied by measures to strengthen the administration and increase the military resources was sure to prove a failure. Sultan Ibrahim (r.1517–26) faced numerous rebellions and kept out the opposition for almost a decade. He was engaged in warfare with the Afghans and the Mughals for most of his reign and died trying to keep the Lodi Dynasty from annihilation. Sultan Ibrahim was defeated in 1526 at the Battle of Panipat. This marked the end of the Lodi Dynasty and the rise of the Mughal Empire in India led by Babur (r. 1526–1530).

Delhi became the capital city after the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century. From 1206 to 1526, Delhi was ruled by many rulers of different Muslim dynasties. They all preferred the title of Sultan, and so this period of history came to be known as the Delhi Sultanate.
It started with the Mamluk Dynasty, and was followed by the Khilji, Tughluq, Sayyid and Lodi dynasties.
The Rajput Dynasties ruled Delhi from the early 12th century to 1165 AD.
After Qutbuddin Aybak, his son-in-law Shamsuddin Iltutmish took over the throne of Delhi. Raziyya was the only woman ruler from the Delhi Sultanate to rule Delhi.
Delhi went under the control of the Khilji Dynasty in 1287. The first ruler from the Khilji Dynasty was Jalaluddin Khilji. In 1316, the death of Alauddin Khilji brought the end of the Khilji Dynasty. The Khilji dynasty ruled over Delhi from 1290 to 1320 AD.
The Tughluqs came next. Ghiyasuddin Tughluq was the first emperor of the Tughluq Dynasty. The Tughluq dynasty ruled over Delhi from 1320 to 1414.
Khizr Khan founded the Sayyid dynasty, which ruled over Delhi from 1414 to 1451 AD. Bahlul Lodi established the Lodi Dynasty in 1451. The Lodi dynasty ruled over Delhi from 1451 to 1526.

Lodi Tomb was built in 1517-18 by Ibrahim Lodi, son of Sikandar Lodi. The alluring maqbara or the tomb of Sikandar Lodi, the second Lodi ruler of the Afghan Lodi Dynasty, is located in the picturesque premises of old Lady Willington Park or more commonly known as Lodhi Garden.
Just a stone throw away is the tomb of Muhammad Shah which combined with Lodi Tomb is a perfect example of octagonal tomb. The rich Indian legacy further carves an insignia on the pages of history with the presence of Lodi Shish and the Bara Gumbad in the vicinity of Lodhi temple, which are square tombs with imposing dome, and a guise giving false impression of being double storied structure. The watercourse connecting the Yamuna River and Sikander Lodi's tomb is still visible around the tomb. Now popular picnic spot, thanks to the efforts of INTACH and Archeological Survey of India (ASI), Lodhi Tomb and Lodhi Garden have weathered the test of time and helped to preserve an important part of Indian culture.
Another factor that contributes to the beautiful vista and pristine beauty of Lodi Tomb is the presence of diversified flora glazed with species of exotic birds fluttering their wings to leave a person awe-struck.

Lodi Tomb was built in 1517-18 by Ibrahim Lodi, son of Sikandar Lodi. Lodhi dynasty's reign ended under Ibrahim Lodi, who was attacked by Rana Sanga of Mewar, Lodhi's reign finally ended after he was defeated by Babur from Kabul, founder of the Mughal Empire.
Bahlul Khan Lodi (r.1451–89) was the nephew and son-in-law of Malik Sultan Shah Lodi, the governor of Sirhind in (Punjab), India and succeeded him as the governor of Sirhind during the reign of Sayyid dynasty ruler Muhammad Shah (Muhammad-bin-Farid). Muhammad Shah raised him to the status of an Emir. He was the most powerful of the Punjab chiefs and a vigorous leader, holding together a loose confederacy of Afghan and Turkish chiefs with his strong personality. He reduced the turbulent chiefs of the provinces to submission and infused some vigour into the government. After the last Sayyid ruler of Delhi, Ala-ud-Din Alam Shah voluntarily abdicated in favour of him, Bahlul Khan Lodi ascended the throne of the Delhi sultanate on April 19, 1451. The most important event of his reign was the conquest of Jaunpur. Bahlul spent most of his time in fighting against the Sharqi dynasty and ultimately annexed it. He placed his eldest surviving son Barbak on the throne of Jaunpur in 1486.

Sikandar Lodi (r.1489–1517) (born Nizam Khan), the second son of Bahlul, succeeded him after his death on July 17, 1489 and took up the title Sikandar Shah. He was nominated by his father to succeed him and was crowned sultan on July 15, 1489. He founded Agra in 1504 and constructed mosques. He shifted the capital from Delhi to Agra. He abolished corn duties and patronized trade and commerce. He was a poet of repute. He composed under the pen-name of Gulruk. He was also patron of learning and ordered Sanskrit work in medicine to be translated into Persian. He curbed the individualistic tendencies of his Afghan nobles and compelled them to submit their accounts to state audit. He was, thus, able to infuse vigor and discipline in the administration. His greatest achievement was the conquest and annexation of Bihar

His attempt at royal absolutism was premature and his policy of sheer repression unaccompanied by measures to strengthen the administration and increase the military resources was sure to prove a failure. Sultan Ibrahim (r.1517–26) faced numerous rebellions and kept out the opposition for almost a decade. He was engaged in warfare with the Afghans and the Mughals for most of his reign and died trying to keep the Lodi Dynasty from annihilation. Sultan Ibrahim was defeated in 1526 at the Battle of Panipat. This marked the end of the Lodi Dynasty and the rise of the Mughal Empire in India led by Babur (r. 1526–1530).

Lodi Tomb was built in 1517-18 by Ibrahim Lodi, son of Sikandar Lodi. The alluring maqbara or the tomb of Sikandar Lodi, the second Lodi ruler of the Afghan Lodi Dynasty, is located in the picturesque premises of old Lady Willington Park or more commonly known as Lodhi Garden.
Just a stone throw away is the tomb of Muhammad Shah which combined with Lodi Tomb is a perfect example of octagonal tomb. The rich Indian legacy further carves an insignia on the pages of history with the presence of Lodi Shish and the Bara Gumbad in the vicinity of Lodhi temple, which are square tombs with imposing dome, and a guise giving false impression of being double storied structure. The watercourse connecting the Yamuna River and Sikander Lodi's tomb is still visible around the tomb. Now popular picnic spot, thanks to the efforts of INTACH and Archeological Survey of India (ASI), Lodhi Tomb and Lodhi Garden have weathered the test of time and helped to preserve an important part of Indian culture.
Another factor that contributes to the beautiful vista and pristine beauty of Lodi Tomb is the presence of diversified flora glazed with species of exotic birds fluttering their wings to leave a person awe-struck.
