The Prince (Italian: Il Principe [il ˈprintʃipe]) is a 16th-century political treatise by the Italian diplomat and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli. From correspondence a version appears to have been distributed in 1513, using a Latin title, De Principatibus (About Principalities). However, the printed version was not published until 1532, five years after Machiavelli's death. This was done with the permission of the Medici pope Clement VII, but "long before then, in fact since the first appearance of The Prince in manuscript, controversy had swirled about his writings".
Although it was written as if it were a traditional work in the mirrors for princes style, it is generally agreed that it was especially innovative. This is only partly because it was written in the vernacular Italian rather than Latin, a practice which had become increasingly popular since the publication of Dante's Divine Comedy and other works of Renaissance literature.
The Prince is sometimes claimed to be one of the first works of modern philosophy, especially modern political philosophy, in which the effective truth is taken to be more important than any abstract ideal. It was also in direct conflict with the dominant Catholic and scholastic doctrines of the time concerning how to consider politics and ethics.
Lyon or Lyons (UK /liːˈɒn/ or /ˈliːɒn/;French pronunciation: [ljɔ̃], locally: [lijɔ̃]; Arpitan: Liyon [ʎjɔ̃]) is a city in east-central France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, situated between Paris and Marseille. The correct spelling in French is Lyon, but the spelling Lyons is sometimes specified in English, particularly in newspaper style guides. Lyon is located about 470 km (292 mi) from Paris, 320 km (199 mi) from Marseille, 420 km (261 mi) from Strasbourg, 160 km (99 mi) from Geneva, and 280 km (174 mi) from Turin. The residents of the city are called Lyonnais.
The municipality (commune) of Lyon has a population of 500,715 (2013) and is France's third-largest city after Paris and Marseille. Lyon is the seat of the metropolis of Lyon, and the capital of both the department of Rhône and the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The greater metropolitan area of Lyon, a concept for statistical purposes that is not an administrative division, has a population of 2,214,068 (2012), which makes it the second-largest metropolitan area in France after Île-de-France (Paris).
The Town of Lyons is a Statutory Town in Boulder County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 2033 at the 2010 United States Census, up from 1585 at the 2000 United States Census. Lyons is located at the confluence of North St. Vrain Creek and South St. Vrain Creek, 20 miles (32 km) east of Rocky Mountain National Park. Due to its location at the intersection of State Highway 7 and U.S. Highway 36 which lead to Rocky Mountain National Park, it is sometimes referred to as "The Double Gateway to the Rockies".
Lyons is located in northern Boulder County at 40°13′26″N 105°16′8″W / 40.22389°N 105.26889°W / 40.22389; -105.26889 (40.223935, -105.269013).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km2), of which 0.015 square miles (0.04 km2), or 1.30%, is water, consisting of St. Vrain Creek and its branches.
In the 17th century, the Ute Nation came to Colorado. The largest tribes that followed were the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Comanche, along with the Pawnee occasionally. The Utes were the last tribe to be forced into Indian reservations after the Colorado Gold Rush. The Utes were the only tribe that extensively explored the mountains and Lyons area. The Plains Indians were attracted to the vast grasslands where it was ideal for hunting bison.
Billy Branch (born William Earl Branch, October 3, 1951, Great Lakes, Illinois, United States) is an American blues harmonica player and singer of Chicago blues and harmonica blues.
Billy Branch is a three-time Grammy nominee, a retired two-term governor for the Chicago Grammy Chapter, an Emmy Award winner, and a winner of the Addy Award. In addition, Branch has received numerous humanitarian and music awards.
Branch was born in Great Lakes, Chicago, Illinois, although his family moved to Los Angeles when he was five years old. In 1969 he moved to Chicago where he attended and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Branch attended the first Chicago Blues Fest, produced by Willie Dixon, in 1969. Six years later, after graduating from the University of Illinois, he was touring with the band led by Willie Dixon called the Chicago Blues All-Stars. He soon took the place of the harmonica player Carey Bell, when Carey left the All Stars to form his own band.
In the 1970s, Branch founded his own group, The Sons of Blues, along with Lurrie Bell on guitar and Freddie Dixon on bass guitar. They are the sons of Carey Bell and Willie Dixon respectively, and they recorded for Alligator Records and with a change in personnel for Red Beans Records. The new band consisted of Carlos Johnson on guitar and J. W. Williams on vocals and bass guitar. He has also recorded for Verve Records and Evidence Records.
The Information Age (also known as the Computer Age, Digital Age, or New Media Age) is a period in human history characterized by the shift from traditional industry that the Industrial Revolution brought through industrialization, to an economy based on information computerization. The onset of the Information Age is associated with the Digital Revolution, just as the Industrial Revolution marked the onset of the Industrial Age.
During the information age, the phenomenon is that the digital industry creates a knowledge-based society surrounded by a high-tech global economy that spans over its influence on how the manufacturing throughput and the service sector operate in an efficient and convenient way. In a commercialized society, the information industry is able to allow individuals to explore their personalized needs, therefore simplifying the procedure of making decisions for transactions and significantly lowering costs for both the producers and buyers. This is accepted overwhelmingly by participants throughout the entire economic activities for efficacy purposes, and new economic incentives would then be indigenously encouraged, such as the knowledge economy.
This is the story of the first office computer and its unlikely owners, J. Lyons and Co, a company better known for making cakes. Discover how computers became part of office life in our new Information Age gallery http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/informationage. The Lyons Electronic Office (LEO I) went into operation in 1951, transforming the working lives of employees and kick-starting the development of the British computer industry. This state-of-the art 1950s computer was small enough to fit on a single floor of Lyons head office, and held a full 2 KB of information (about a side of A4). Nigella's Mother was an heiress of a hugely successful family business: the cornershop, tea house and catering company Lyons. Nigella learns that Lyons was an enormous enterprise (with sites in the present day Trocodero and Palace Regent Hotel, and the recently closed Planet Hollywood), which offered the British public high quality dining for competitive prices between 1898 and 1970. The family constructed a fund to ensure this money was never lost through disagreements or jealousy. Nigella knows quite a lot about her background, mainly because several of her ancestors are quite famous figures. For a start, her father, Nigel Lawson, was Margaret Thatcher's chancellor of the exchequer for many years, while her mother, Vanessa Salmon, was an heiress born into the Lyons Coffee House dynasty....

The Bull Tractor Co. was formed in 1913 by Patrick J. Lyons as the financier and D.M. Hartsough as the tractor designer. With visions of small tractors as the future they sold their popular Big Four line to Emerson Brantingham of Rockford, Illinois, for $2 million in 1912 to pave the way for their new venture. The company started taking orders for the Little Bull 5-12 tractor in late 1913, before they had a factory to build them. On December 30, 1913, Lyons entered into a contract with Minneapolis Steel & Machinery Company to build a minimum of 50 tractors a day. Minneapolis could not fill the order of engines, so as an entrepreneur like Lyons would do, he founded the subsidiary Toro Motor Co. to build engines. Lyons paid Minneapolis Steel $195 for each tractor, and Toro furnished the eng...

Streamed live on May 28, 2015. "The Internet, Wide Open" is the fourth and final debate in the Design and Violence series prompted by two data visualization designs featured in Design and Violence: Patrick Clair's Stuxnet, a lens on the virus that initially targeted Iran's nuclear program, and Google's Digital Attack Map, a design that seeks to bring insight into a digital weapon that works both for and against free speech. The debate motion: Internet freedom and digital privacy will come about only through the design of better tools for civil disobedience and direct action. Opinions will be delivered by Gabriella Coleman (the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy at McGill University, and author of Hacker, Hoaxer, Whistleblower, Spy: The Many Faces of Anonymous) and Law...
