Metz (French pronunciation: [mɛs]; German pronunciation: [mɛts]) is a city in northeast France located at the confluence of the Moselle and the Seille rivers. Metz is the prefecture of the Moselle department and the seat of the parliament of the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine region. Located near the tripoint along the junction of France, Germany, and Luxembourg, the city forms a central place of the European Greater Region and the SaarLorLux euroregion.
Metz has a rich 3,000-year-history, having variously been a Celtic oppidum, an important Gallo-Roman city, the Merovingian capital of the Austrasia kingdom, the birthplace of the Carolingian dynasty, a cradle of the Gregorian chant, and one of the oldest republics in Europe. The city has been steeped in Romance culture, but has been strongly influenced by Germanic culture due to its location and history.
Because of its historical, cultural, and architectural background, Metz has been submitted on France's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. The city features noteworthy buildings such as the Gothic Saint-Stephen Cathedral with its largest expanse of stained-glass windows in the world, the Basilica of Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains being the oldest church in France, its Imperial Station Palace displaying the apartment of the German Kaiser, or its Opera House, the oldest one working in France. Metz is home to some world-class venues including the Arsenal Concert Hall and the Centre Pompidou-Metz museum.
Matthieu Chedid (born 21 December 1971, in Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France), better known by his stage name ‑M- , is a French rock singer-songwriter and guitar player.
Matthieu Chedid is the son of French singer Louis Chedid, and the grandson of the Egyptian-born French writer and poetess of Lebanese descent Andrée Chedid who has written lyrics for him. His sister is the music video and concert director Émilie Chedid.
Chedid, a talented multi-instrumentalist, took an interest in music early on. In 1978, at the age of six, Chedid lent his voice to the chorus of his father's hit song T'as beau pas être beau alongside older sister, Émilie. During his teenage years and early twenties, Chedid formed a few short-lasting groups such as Mat Mat (Checkmate Checkmate), Les Bébés fous (The crazy babies) and Les Poissons rouges (The "red fish," a French expression equivalent to the English "goldfish") with Mathieu Boogaerts and with the sons of Laurent Voulzy and Alain Souchon, Julien Voulzy and Pierre Souchon. He has collaborated with a number of artists, both on stage and in the recording studio. Early into his solo career, Chedid was the opening act for Texas concerts. He has recorded with NTM, Sinclair, Billy Ze Kick, and more recently with Brigitte Fontaine, Sean Lennon, Vanessa Paradis, and Johnny Hallyday, with whom he recorded the come-back album Jamais Seul (2011).

In little over an hour from Trier, Germany, we arrived in Metz, just across the border into France. We spent a quiet Sunday exploring this quaint, historic city. Video filmed on my iPhone 6 and edited using Quik.
This is part 1 of the Metz video. Metz is the largest city and capital of the Lorraine and Moselle region. Metz changed ownership in the course of the centuries and this is visible in the architecture and design of the city. Although Metz is slightly influenced by the Art Nouveau style from Nancy as it was at the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century, Metz looks a lot more German than many other cities in Lorraine. It's all a little less frivolous and more robust. The train station of Metz is the best example. This station was built in the Neo-Romanesque style, and its high bell tower and its huge stained-glass windows makes it look more like an immense church than a train station. The cathedral in Metz is also very spectacular, and a must see! For more travel, visit our w...
This is Lorraine, in pictures. A Lorraine that is more lively, diverse, elegant, creative and bubbly than you could possibly imagine. Yet the region has always been successful in cultivating a real regional lifestyle. It surprises people for the beauty of its light, heritage, natural environment and towns. It amazes them with its artistic, cultural and even industrial genius. It attracts them with its festive traditions, gourmet food and sense of hospitality. Lorraine also opens the door to History, the history of wars and the story of a king who turned the region into a kingdom. It fills their lungs with pure mountain air in the Vosges and gives them fitness and a sense of well-being thanks to its spring water. Through these few minutes of video, we invite you to visit... For more aerial drone shots of Genoa, please see Stefano McCoy's channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsgQjacVyrNWo5vSmjsdAzQ The gritty maze of the medieval city that makes up the core of Genoa is both beauty and the beast. The grandeur and heritage of this once great trading city lives side by side with modern vice and decrepitude. The odious smelling alleys give way to modern and chic restaurants and shops. Genoa is one of the most difficult of cities to describe and is very different from more generally travelled Italian cities like Rome, Florence or Venice. My Grandfathers WWII RAF flight record for those that might be interested - the campaign against Genoa looks to be one of his earlier flights: First Tour 25 June 1942 - Bremen (6.30) 29 July 1942 - Dusseldorf (3.00) 10 ...
