Missionary Ridge is a geographic feature in Chattanooga, Tennessee, site of the Battle of Missionary Ridge, a battle in the American Civil War, fought on November 25, 1863. Union forces under Maj. Gens. Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and George H. Thomas routed Confederate forces under General Braxton Bragg and lifted the siege of the city.
Missionary Ridge runs basically north-south for several kilometers and varies in width from a few meters to over 200 meters, with very steep, nearly vertical sides that rise over 100 meters from the ground surrounding it. Missionary Ridge was so named for the early missionaries who made their way along paths climbing the ridge on their way to Brainerd Village to the settlement of the Cherokee. It was also referred to as "Mission Ridge" in the early years.
The southernmost end of the Ridge extends into Georgia. The Ridge was slightly east of the city at the time of the battle but now, due to urban growth and annexation, it largely bisects the city. A 1/4 mile section of the Ridge was blasted away during construction of I-24. This is known locally as the "Ridge cut." The cut's sharp curves and steep grade are often a factor in accidents and congestion.
William Tyler may refer to:
A ridge or mountain ridge is a geological feature consisting of a chain of mountains or hills that form a continuous elevated crest for some distance. Ridges are usually termed hills or mountains as well, depending on size. There are several main types of ridges:-
A missionary is a member of a religious group sent into an area to proselytize and/or perform ministries of service, such as education, literacy, social justice, health care and economic development. The word "mission" originates from 1598 when the Jesuits sent members abroad, derived from the Latin missionem (nom. missio), meaning "act of sending" or mittere, meaning "to send". The word was used in light of its biblical usage; in the Latin translation of the Bible, Christ uses the word when sending the disciples to preach in his name. The term is most commonly used for Christian missions, but can be used for any creed or ideology.
A Christian missionary can be defined as "one who is to witness across cultures". The Lausanne Congress of 1974, defined the term, related to Christian mission as, "to form a viable indigenous church-planting movement". Missionaries can be found in many countries around the world.
Jesus instructed the apostles to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19–20, Mark 16:15–18). This verse is referred to by Christian missionaries as the Great Commission and inspires missionary work.
A civil war is an armed conflict within a nation.
The term "The Civil War" redirects here. See List of civil wars for a longer list of specific conflicts.

[Taken on 4-10-15] First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you to my friend Armeen for doing this! Over my spring break, we went up to Chattanooga, TN, which is only an hour and a half away from where I live, and we went to ride the train at the Chattanooga Railroad Museum! We even got to ride on the steam engine on the ride back! Yes it does cost extra to ride on the steam engine, but Armeen paid for everything for a late birthday present for me! This was quite the adventure! I hope you enjoy! If you would like to see pictures from the Tennessee Trip, check out my Facebook page and look for the album! Part of the Chickamauga Battlefield park is Missionary Ridge, which overlooks Chattanooga. It was held by Confederate forces until Grant led Union offensive in November 1863. The area where Bragg's HQ is located is a small area of park. The area is also famous as Sheridan's Division captured the Confederate lines in this region, one regiment being led by Arthur MacArthur, who would receive a Medal of Honor for this action. His son, Douglas MacArthur would also receive the Medal of Honor for actions in WWII.

The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is a 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge inclined plane railway located along the side of Lookout Mountain in the historic St. Elmo neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the United States. Passengers are transported from St. Elmo's Station at the base, to Point Park at the mountain summit, which overlooks the city and the Tennessee River. It is just a short drive to three of Chattanooga's main tourist attractions, Ruby Falls, Cavern Castle, and Rock City Both less than 10 minutes drive from the railways top station. The railway is approximately one mile (1.6 km) in length (single-track except for a short two-track stretch (passing loop) at the midway point, allowing operation of two cars at one time), and has a maximum grade of 72.7%. April 1st, 2009. A friendly crew member on the Missionary Ridge Local let us back into the TVRM's shop in East Chattanooga, where Southern Railway Ms class mikado 4501, and KS-1 class consolidation 630, are currently under restoration; the two are accompanied by a passenger car, and Southern E-8 6914. Seeing the 630 dismantled, amidst a myriad of its own intricate components, really gives one a better appreciation for the labor involved in restoring a steam locomotive. We didn't want to make the train wait, so the video had to be brief.

Super Saturday Broadcast of the 1993 Woodward, Man o War, Matron and Futurity.. After flying 3,000 miles to do it, Bertrando injected some California intrigue into the contest for Horse of the Year yesterday when he led all the way to win the $500,000 Woodward Stakes at Belmont Park by a resounding 13 1/2 lengths over the hometown hero, Devil His Due. It was four weeks after Bertrando had won the Pacific Classic and come into his own as perhaps the most formidable speedhorse on the West Coast, and maybe in the country. And he did nothing to diminish his stature yesterday as Gary Stevens rode him to the victory that marked him as one of the leading candidates for year-end honors and championships. Devil His Due, the winner of four stakes this year, did win something of value yesterday. H...

Sunday, August 16th, 2015: Knoxville and Holston River Railroad's former Southern 2-8-0 #154 plays dress up, disguised as Tallulah Falls Railroad 2-8-0 #78 to pull a special mixed train for photographers. Well we're back from a small hiatus due to college, and what better way to kick things off than a duo of century-old steam locomotives running in tandem? Personally I can't think of much else. We found ourselves flying alone Sunday, October 29 at the tunnel through Missionary Ridge. Close to freezing temperatures blanketed the valley despite a sunny forecast, but that was nowhere close enough to stop railfans, both riding, and chasing, from enjoying the TVRM's Summerville Steam Special for the day. Old home movies transferred to DVD, then converted to MP4 files for editing and upload. This video footage is between 16 & 17 years old, so I apologize for any issues with video quality or sound. The first part of the video shows the Day Out with Thomas at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Dillsboro, North Carolina. The second part shows the Day Out with Thomas at the Tennessee Valley Railroad in 1999, and features a clip of 610 pulling the Missionary Ridge Local. Also heard is an audio of one of the TVRM RDC cars operating under its own power.
With Spring Break being right around the corner, I decided, "Why not hit up the Cliff for once in a few weeks?" So, that's what I did... BUT, I caught wind of UP 1995 possibly making a run down the CNO&TP; through Chattanooga on NS 179... unfortunately, it came by the following afternoon on March 5 while I was in my 13:00 EDT English class.... BUT the catches were good with a number of ex-UP SD90MAC's powering several trains in and out of DeButts on that day. I ran into a few more rail buffs who informed me that they just came from TVRM and rode behind SOU #630. My plans changed when I confirmed that it was out and chuggin'. At about 15:20 EDT, I made my way over to the small neighborhood where plenty of people have watched the TVRM run by and I parked my car. Soon enough, I heard that fami...

For trainer Bobby Frankel, there has been good, better and best in the $1-million Pacific Classic, and he rated Saturday as the best after his lightly regarded Tinners Way made a late run to beat Best Pal by one length. Frankel won the 1992 Classic with Missionary Ridge and repeated last year with Bertrando, whose owners switched trainers this year. Bertrando, the 2-1 favorite Saturday, was victimized by an early duel with Slew Of Damascus for the lead and finished next to last in the nine-horse field. "This win makes me feel the best of all," Frankel said. "It's not revenge, but it's always nice to beat the horse that you trained last year. This should help my career more than anything." The 53-year-old Frankel's horses earned $8.6 million last year and he won the Eclipse Award for bes...
