Plot: La acción comienza en la "Freiduría de Jesusa", un restaurante en el barrio de La Barceloneta en Barcelona. Allí, dos niños, Juan José y Maribel, hacen las delicias de los turistas cantando y bailando al son de la guitarra del "Tío Pepe", al tiempo que atraen clientes al local. De repente, llega la noticia de que Don Carlos y Doña Amparo, padres de Maribel, vuelven a Barcelona desde Oviedo, cosa que no sucede muy a menudo, según parece ser. Por la reacción de Maribel, de su hermana Luisa y de su abuela Trinidad, es evidente que no es demasiado bienvenida la llegada de los progenitores. La razón es bien sencilla: Maribel lleva una semana sin ir al Colegio de las Hermanas Dominicas y no toca el piano como es deseo de madre, sino que se dedica exclusivamente a bailar en el restaurante de la madre de Juan José (cosa que su padre nunca aprobaría), mientras que su hermana Luisa se dedica, tras finalizar su carrera de diseñadora de moda, a hacer de modelo en los desfiles, a pesar de que sus padres piensan que es ella la diseñadora...
