July 18th 2013. Massive debris flow / flash flood in Southern Utah. Close to 3" of rain fell north of my location and I filmed these shots 6+ hours after the fact.

Thunderstorms and flash floods moved into the usually bone-dry Atacama desert, causing the Copiapo River to overflow its banks.
At least 7 people died in this deluge. Fears of mudslides prompted authorities to evacuate thousands from their homes, many of which are mining communities situated in narrow valleys that cross the desert.

So this is the biggest disaster Michael has ever caused. My mom had just flown in and wanted to see the kids before they went to bed. We were out, about to grab something at the grocery store, so we came back home to see Papa and Nanny first. We had just sat down on the couch to hear about my mom's trip when i asked where Michael was (it was awfully quiet). A few moments later, I heard this sound but couldn't quite pinpoint the sound. I wondered if Michael was in his favorite place (sarcastic)...the bathroom. I started realizing it sounded like water being poured or sprayed, so we ran to the bathroom. Water was literally POURING from the toilet. Talk about a mess. We don't even know how Michael plugged the toilet in order to get it to overflow like that, but we think one of the twins left a pair of undies on the floor when he had gone to the bathroom and michael tried to flush them along with a bunch of toilet paper. The toilet still isn't quite working right so we will be removing it and investigating further this weekend...
It's tricky because the other little kids in the house have trouble remembering to shut the bathroom door behind them, then Michael can get into the bathroom. Toilet locks also aren't an option because when the twins have to use the bathroom, they usually wait till the last minute, so they have an accident if they have to wait. So for now, we just have to be more diligent about keeping the bathroom door shut when Michael is not in his play area.

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.
It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.
I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park.

HOUSTON - New video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a driver making a fatal mistake Monday morning on South Post Oak Blvd. near the Westpark Tollway.
The video shows the driver, identified as Claudia Melgar, of a white Dodge Durango drive into at least 30 feet of flood water. Minutes after the video a toll road worker tries to chase after the vehicle, even jumping into the water to save the driver.
"What happened was truly unfortunate. There was a barrier in place," Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said. "We are going to work with TxDOT and the city. I'm going to take ownership of this. We've got to make it safe."
Family members of the 25-year-old were terrified Tuesday that the body found inside the Durango may be hers. Melgar was last seen at 3 a.m. Monday at a local nightclub and has not been heard from since 6 that morning.
"She was in the Westheimer area and she was in a white, Dodge Durango. She texted her mother telling her she was on her way home, and we have not heard anything from her since then. We are very, very scared," Linda Rodriguez, Claudia's cousin, said.
The Medical Examiner's Officer confirmed the identity of Melgar on Wednesday morning.
Channel 2 Investigates has also obtained video of another flood victim, 43-year-old Teri Rodriguez, a mother of three children, the moment she drove her vehicle into a drainage ditch at 1807 Briar Creek Boulevard. She drowned at the scene.
The families of two victims, Rodriguez and Suresh Talluri, have set up GoFundMe accounts to help pay for expenses related to their deaths.
The National Weather Service released a video showing how quickly a situation turns deadly in flood-related incidents. It takes just 12 inches of flowing water to carry off a small car; and 18 to 24 inches for larger vehicles.
More than half of the deaths from flooding each year occur in vehicles.

A flood is an overflow of an expanse of water that submerges land. The European Union (EU) Floods Directive defines a flood as a covering by water of land not normally covered by water. In the sense of "flowing water", the word may also be applied to the inflow of the tide. Flooding may result from the volume of water within a body of water, such as a river or lake, which overflows or breaks levees, with the result that some of the water escapes its usual boundaries.
While the size of a lake or other body of water will vary with seasonal changes in precipitation and snow melt, it is not a significant flood unless such escapes of water endanger land areas used by man like a village, city or other inhabited area.
Floods can also occur in rivers, when flow exceeds the capacity of the river channel, particularly at bends or meanders. Floods often cause damage to homes and businesses if they are placed in natural flood plains of rivers. While flood damage can be virtually eliminated by moving away from rivers and other bodies of water, since time out of mind, people have lived and worked by the water to seek sustenance and capitalize on the gains of cheap and easy travel and commerce by being near water. That humans continue to inhabit areas threatened by flood damage is evidence that the perceived value of living near the water exceeds the cost of repeated periodic flooding.

Baby Floods the House!
So this is the biggest disaster Michael has ever caused. My mom had just flown in and wanted to see the kids before they went to bed. We were out, about to grab something at the grocery store, so we came back home to see Papa and Nanny first. We had just sat down on the couch to hear about my mom's trip when i asked where Michael was (it was awfully quiet). A few moments later, I heard this sound but couldn't quite pinpoint the sound. I wondered if Michael was in his favorite place (sarcastic)...the bathroom. I started realizing it sounded like water being poured or sprayed, so we ran to the bathroom. Water was literally POURING from the toilet. Talk about a mess. We don't even know how Michael plugged the toilet in order to get it to overflow like that, but we think one of the twins... -

HOUSTON - New video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a driver making a fatal mistake Monday morning on South Post Oak Blvd. near the Westpark Tollway. The video shows the driver, identified as Claudia Melgar, of a white Dodge Durango drive into at least 30 feet of flood water. So this is the biggest disaster Michael has ever caused. My mom had just flown in and wanted to see the kids before they went to bed. We were out, about to grab something at the grocery store, so we came back home to see Papa and Nanny first. We had just sat down on the couch to hear about my mom's trip when i asked where Michael was (it was awfully quiet). A few moments later, I heard this sound but couldn't quite pinpoint the sound. I wondered if Michael was in his favorite place (sarcastic)...the bathroom. I started realizing it sounded like water being poured or sprayed, so we ran to the bathroom. Water was literally POURING from the toilet. Talk about a mess. We don't even know how Michael plugged the toilet in order to get it to overflow like that, but we think one of the twins left a pair of undies on the floor when he had gone to the bathroom and michael tried to flush them along with a bunch of toilet paper. The toilet still isn't quite working right so we will be removing it and investigating further this weekend...
It's tricky because the other little kids in the house have trouble remembering to shut the bathroom door behind them, then Michael can get into the bathroom. Toilet locks also aren't an option because when the twins have to use the bathroom, they usually wait till the last minute, so they have an accident if they have to wait. So for now, we just have to be more diligent about keeping the bathroom door shut when Michael is not in his play area.

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.
It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.
I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park.

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.
It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.
I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park.

HOUSTON - New video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a driver making a fatal mistake Monday morning on South Post Oak Blvd. near the Westpark Tollway.
The video shows the driver, identified as Claudia Melgar, of a white Dodge Durango drive into at least 30 feet of flood water. Minutes after the video a toll road worker tries to chase after the vehicle, even jumping into the water to save the driver.
"What happened was truly unfortunate. There was a barrier in place," Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said. "We are going to work with TxDOT and the city. I'm going to take ownership of this. We've got to make it safe."
Family members of the 25-year-old were terrified Tuesday that the body found inside the Durango may be hers. Melgar was last seen at 3 a.m. Monday at a local nightclub and has not been heard from since 6 that morning.
"She was in the Westheimer area and she was in a white, Dodge Durango. She texted her mother telling her she was on her way home, and we have not heard anything from her since then. We are very, very scared," Linda Rodriguez, Claudia's cousin, said.
The Medical Examiner's Officer confirmed the identity of Melgar on Wednesday morning.
Channel 2 Investigates has also obtained video of another flood victim, 43-year-old Teri Rodriguez, a mother of three children, the moment she drove her vehicle into a drainage ditch at 1807 Briar Creek Boulevard. She drowned at the scene.
The families of two victims, Rodriguez and Suresh Talluri, have set up GoFundMe accounts to help pay for expenses related to their deaths.
The National Weather Service released a video showing how quickly a situation turns deadly in flood-related incidents. It takes just 12 inches of flowing water to carry off a small car; and 18 to 24 inches for larger vehicles.
More than half of the deaths from flooding each year occur in vehicles.

A 21-year-old man posted a picture from inside his flooded car moments before disappearing on Thursday night - while torrential rain left one person dead and four missing across Texas.
Darren Mitchell, 21, is one of two people missing in Washington County, where heavy rain trapped dozens of people between Thursday and Friday.
A third person died in the area in a flooded trailer home.
Meanwhile, two other people are also missing in the Austin area, where authorities rescued five people from the roof of a house by helicopter.
Mitchell posted a photo from inside his submerged car on Thursday evening, KHOU reported.
His sister told the station he shared the photo on Facebook, writing in the caption: 'And all I wanted to do was go home.'
Mitchell called his mother to tell her he was in high water on Thursday night, according to KHOU.
Authorities found his overturned car near the highway on Friday morning.
The search was later suspended until water levels went down, KHOU's Stephanie Whitfield tweeted.
Another person remains missing in the Brenham area. Officials found their vehicle without a driver inside.
Floods in Washington County also left one dead in Chappell Hill, where a person died in a trailer park.
The trailer park was on the FM 1155, not far from Blenham, when it became flooded, KHOU reported.
Two more people remain missing about 90 miles away, in the Austin area.
They were on top of a car and rescuers were about to go help them when water swept them away in a flooded creek, Fire Chief Ken Bailey told KEYE TV.
The two people disappeared around 1.15am on Friday according to the Austin American-Statesman.
The waters in the area have now receded and authorities are hopeful the two people missing are safe, Travis County Emergency Services spokeswoman Lisa Block said.
Five people - four adults and one child - were also rescued by helicopter while standing on the roof of a house in the Austin area.
Several of the city's neighborhoods were evacuated on Friday morning and authorities asked drivers to avoid certain roads as water continued to rise.
Heavy rain also hit Houston, where some schools are closed or have delayed start times.
Emergency services completed 45 rescues in high water in Brenham, according to KHOU. About 50 children couldn't go home after school on Thursday afternoon as buses weren't running.
More thunderstorms were announced in Texas Friday by the Weather Channel, with flood warnings in Dallas, Austin and Houston.

At 11:50 there is a barge which has become wedged under a balcony / walkway, lifting the balcony / walkway above it. This is just under Centenary Bridge, opposite Oracle Bar.

According to the Environment Agency, the River Aire went on to reach 2.93 metres at Crown Point at 23:30. It's typical height is between 0.53 and 1.35 metres.

Somerset After the Floods BBC Documentary 2015
The Somerset Levels are one of the most beautiful parts of Britain, but in the winter of 2013 they faced a natural disaster.
One village, Moorland, was entirely engulfed by the floods. Deluged by water, the villagers watched helplessly as their lives and homes were washed away. This programme follows their year-long struggle to get home again after the water drained and media attention shifted away.
Although the residents put on a brave face, the realities of their fate pile up - the refusal of insurance companies to pay up, and the months of delay with the builders. All this adds fuel to a heartfelt frustration that the floods were man-made and the nagging fear of what would happen to them if and when the waters return.
