Daniel John "Dan" Tyminski (born June 20, 1967 in Rutland, Vermont) is a bluegrass composer, vocalist, and instrumentalist. He is a member of the band Alison Krauss and Union Station and has released two solo albums, Carry Me Across the Mountain (2000), on the Doobie Shea Records label, and Wheels (2008), on the Rounder Records label.
He is best known for his updated version of the song "Man of Constant Sorrow," which was featured in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? and won the 2001 CMA award for best single as well as a Grammy Award for best Country Collaboration with Vocals (along with Harley Allen and Pat Enright, filling out the vocals for the movie's Soggy Bottom Boys). In total, he has won 10 Grammy awards for solo and collaborative projects.
Tyminski was born June 20, 1967 in Rutland, Vermont and plays a bluegrass style that blends traditional and pop traditions. Before becoming a member of Union Station in 1994, Tyminski played mandolin and sang in the Lonesome River Band. Though Tyminski's love and feel for traditional bluegrass didn't come from growing up in the southern Appalachians, he absorbed and learned the music just the same. He credits his brother Stan with getting him hooked on the guitar and mandolin at the age of 6. While Stan was in the Navy and home on leave, he left his mandolin with his younger brother.
Ronald Franklin "Ron" Block (born July 30, 1964) is an American bluegrass and alternative country musician, mainly playing the banjo and the guitar, singing, and writing gospel music.
Block was born in 1964 in Inglewood, California. He received his first guitar at 11. He first became interested in banjo at 13, after seeing Earl Scruggs play on television. His interest in guitars and singing grew after seeing The Stanley Brothers and Larry Sparks. He is best known for his participation in the Grammy Award winning band, Alison Krauss & Union Station.
For the past twenty years, Ron Block has been the spiritual touchstone of Alison Krauss and Union Station, contributing sterling musicianship on banjo, guitar, vocals, and songwriting.
Alison Krauss and Union Station have recorded 10 of Block’s songs since 1992, including There Is A Reason," "In The Palm of Your Hand," "Jesus Help Me To Stand," and "A Living Prayer, which received a 2006 Gospel Music Association Dove award. His songs have also been recorded and performed by Rhonda Vincent (“You’re In My Heart”), Randy Travis (“Which Way Will You Choose”), Dan Tyminski (“Be Assured,” “The One You Lean On,” and “It All Comes Down To You”), Michael W. Smith (“Loving You Eternally”), Rhonda Vincent (“You’re In My Heart”), the Cox Family, and the Forbes Family.
Alison Maria Krauss (born July 23, 1971) is an American bluegrass-country singer, songwriter and fiddler. She entered the music industry at an early age, winning local contests by the age of ten and recording for the first time at fourteen. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. She was invited to join the band with which she still performs, Alison Krauss and Union Station (AKUS), and later released her first album with them as a group in 1989.
She has released fourteen albums, appeared on numerous soundtracks, and helped renew interest in bluegrass music in the United States. Her soundtrack performances have led to further popularity, including the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, an album also credited with raising American interest in bluegrass, and the Cold Mountain soundtrack, which led to her performance at the 2004 Academy Awards. As of 2012, she has won 27 Grammy Awards from 41 nominations, making her the most awarded living recipient, and three back of the most honoured artist, classical conductor Sir Georg Solti. She is also the most awarded singer and the most awarded female artist in Grammy history. At the time of her first award, at the 1991 Grammy Awards, she was the second youngest winner ever (currently tied as third youngest).

He'd beat her up to come, she ran around
She shot him and they laid him in the ground
There's two children left without a home
Wondering what in world is going on
Guilty of murder first degree
Rushy mountain penitentiary
There's two children left without a home
Wondering what in world is going on
=CHORUS=
Who showed who
Who played it smart
One in jail one in the grave with a bullet through the heart
Who showed who
Who's right or wrong
Two children left without a home
=CHORUS=
Well I guess the tragic happenings never end
You don't think these things happen to your friend
Well I thought I knew them both so very well
But he's in the grave and she's in a cell
I guess they both found they were justified
But I can't say that I saw either side
But for Tommy and Mary right or wrong
There's two children left without a home
=CHORUS=
Who showed who
Who played it smart
One in jail one in the grave with a bullet through the heart
Who showed who
Who's right or wrong
Two children left without a home
Stuck in the middle of nowhere
Not knowing which way to turn
If I could only hold you now
And undo the bridges I burned
If I hadn't a left you standing there
To set my sail alone
Then maybe I'd be in your arms tonight
And I'd have more than your memory to hold
Well, I finally learned I'm lonesome
Now I know what it means to yearn
I found myself at the end of the line
Where I'm bound nobody knows
Ain't got nothing but my clothes
Best if I forget the way I'm ridin'
Heading down a one way track
Wind is cold upon my back
Rumbling of this old steel rail don't die
Wheels!
Playing games I could not win
Always ending up again
Change of scenery just might help this time
Watching daylight turn to black
Long since I smoked up my last Mac
Dreamed of one day gettin' off this line
Wheels!
Saw them come and saw them go
Saw them frozen from the cold
He was just a little farm lad, so busy he'd play
With his little playmate outside the gate.
He stopped to watch a truck that was parking next door
At the home of his tiny playmate.
Chorus1:
Then he saw his daddy watchin' too
As the men swiftly walked to the cottage door
He knew they were strangers that came from the town
Men he had never seen before.
Verse2:
They soon went to work when he heard his daddy say,
"Our neighbours are moving today"
"Oh No!" he cried, "Dear God don't let it be,
They can't take my sweetheart away!"
Chorus2:
I know dad you don't understand
How a heart so young could conceive a plan
I'm only seven now but it's just like you say
Daddy someday I'll be a man.
Verse3:
The man who owns the farm where your playmates do live
He told me it'd have to be this way.
For when your time has come and your work is all done
That's why they are moving today.
Chorus3:
Let us buy the farm so they can stay
And give them all the toys that your Santa gave
And give them all my pennies in my little piggy bank
I'm not trying to show you how, I love you but I do.
I'm not the kind to stay for long, but you've got me wanting to.
I think about you everyday.
Was it really meant for us to meet,
And if I saw you out walking on the street.
Would we have to turn our heads away,
And just pretend we don't feel this way.
Now I'm in my car and there's no one else here,
I'm staring out the windshield and fighting back a tear.
I wish our lives were different, and we could have a chance
There's nothing sadder than a lost romance.
I listened to that song, at least a hundred times a day
The one about Carolina.
Suppose I stop the car, and I called you just to say,
I miss you everyday.
Think of me when the nights are long,
And I'm never far away.
Some day soon I'll be at your door,
And then I'm home to stay,
I think about you everyday.
There's a man who lives to be faithful and true
He stands in love's purest light
Take his hand as you walk through the joy and the pain
The one whose love will be love to you
I know life gets harder the farther we go
Cause our hopes and dreams tend to fade
In the light of home from a far away land
The voice who is love softly calls your name
=CHORUS=
I'll be with you when all others turn away
I'll be with you though the heart seems to say
Sorrow breaks me and I can't see the light of day
And I'll be the one you lean on
=Chorus=
When sorrow breaks you and you can't see the light of day
Don't forget me little darling while I'm growing old and gray
Just a little thought before I'm going far away
Cause I'll be waiting on the hillside for the day you will call
On the sunny side of the mountain where the rippling waters fall
Now darling, tell me in your letters do you ever think of me
Ah, tell me... little darling tell me where you can be
Don't forget about the days we courted many years ago
Don't forget all those promises you gave me and so
It's been so long since I've seen you but your love still lingers on
It was late one night in the heart of town I was drinking all alone
Ran out of cash when I paid my tabs so I headed home
The night was black, the air was thick as I wandered passed a barn
Then a shot came out and I heard a scream beside me in the dark
Afraid that maybe I'd be next I started to run
Just as fast as my feet would go into the barrel of a gun
The lawman's light was blinding me he said why'd you do it son
Two weeks later in the criminal court I was up on murder one
=CHORUS=
Maybe some early morning in a pasture of green
Beside the still water I'll awake from this dream
This terrible dream
=CHORUS=
Well I sat there in the courtroom as the tears ran down my face
A guilty man is free somewhere and they put me in his place
The jury ran the verdict and the judge called out my name
He said young man you'll spend your life wearing the ball and chain
I'm staring at the ceiling as I lay here on my bed
Fourteen long and lonely years it's where I laid my head
Behind these cold gray prison walls time sure passes slow
And I guess if I die tomorrow I'd still got a life to go
=CHORUS=
Maybe some early morning in a pasture of green
Beside the still water I'll awake from this dream
This terrible dream
=CHORUS=
A man who's lost his vision will live and die alone
In the cold walls of this prison my heart has turned to stone
The lights are growing dimmer as I take my final breath
I can smell the air of freedom as I close my eyes in death
=CHORUS=
Maybe some early morning in a pasture of green
Beside the still water I'll awake from this dream
This terrible dream
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, and bless His holy name
Cause He don't ever change
He's the one, He's the one, it don't matter what you done
He wants to love you just the same
When old trouble comes along, and temptation is growing strong
Take my hand dear Lord I pray
Hear my cry, hear my plea, have mercy on me
And let your love show me the way
As I labor in this land, be my strength, help me stand
Lead me on the narrow way
Many loved ones now are gone, but I know I'm coming home
God sent a little girl, an angel to me
Words can't explain the love I felt
When I held her close to me
As she grew up and grew apart her mother and I
She over heard our angry words
Then begin to cry
Please dear mommy, don' t hate my daddy
I love him more than anything
Please don't let him go
Please dear daddy, don't leave my mommy
You promised me you never would
Promise you that I'd be good
If you don't go away
Mommy, you should make my daddy stay
We taught her how to say her prayers,
Sit up straight and tall
And if you can't say something good,
Say nothing at all
One night behind our bedroom door
Much to her surprise
The words she heard her daddy say
Made teardrops in her eyes
Please dear daddy, don't hate my mommy
I love her more than anything
Please don't let her go
Please dear mommy, don't leave my daddy
You promised me you never would
I promise you that I'll be good
If you don't go away
Daddy you should make my mommy stay
It takes my breath to tell the rest,
How she left our home
To be part of god's family
Our little baby's gone
Looking back though she was an angel in disguise
The last words that she ever said,
Made teardrops in our eyes.
Please dear mommy, take care of daddy
He loves you more than anything, so please don't let him go
Please dear daddy, stay here with mommy
I did n0t mean to make you cry
I crossed my heart and hoped to die
Now I must go away
He never went to school beyond the day he turned sixteen
And I can't say that I know being that poor really means
He wouldn't be mistaken for a man of high degree
But he was just as smart as anyone could be
The first thing I remember till the day I moved away
Up and every morning I don't believe he missed a day
It was always after sundown when he pulled up in the yard
He would be on a tractor and let me drive into the barn
=Chorus=
While the planter, acre, baler they were all the same to me
When I grow up a farmer is all I ever wanna be
I know that he was tired but he would sit and watch me play
In my imagination I was really making hay
=Chorus=
I graduated highschool just before I turned eightteen
Two years into college when I had a change of dreams
I'd wear a dank old necktie like those city fellows do
I'd move out in the suburbs like a million other fools
I met a brown haired beauty who was sweet as she could be
The day that we were married he stood right there next to me
I knew that he was tired and he seemed so out of place
He never said a word but it was written on his face
=Chorus=
I couldn't read the signs when she was falling out of love
The more he turned the lonelier till she'd finally had enough
So I'd pack up my suits and ties and gave them all away
And headed for the country just in time for making hay
No I won't be mistaken for a man of high degree
'Cause I was born a farmer and that's all I'll ever be
Who do you think you're talking to
You know me I know you
Your silence and your stony face
You don't have a breath to waste
Your love is gone 'cause it all comes down to you
What can we say when all is said?
A house divided cannot stand.
Your head and heart and chary gaze,
Life is just too short to waste.
Your love is gone, 'cause it all comes down to you
I've paid for you and you don't seem to mind.
I'm bending over backwards; you're not satisfied.
What more can I offer, to lay upon the altar?
Love is gone, 'cause it all comes down to you.
What can we do when all is done?
Your life's not the only one.
Just take a look beyond yourself,
The reason of your private hell:
Your love is gone, 'cause it all comes down to you.
I've paid for you and you don't seem to mind.
I'm bending over backwards; you're not satisfied.
What more can I offer, to lay upon the altar?
Just like old times you were here last night
And gone were my sorrows and cares
Just like old times you were gone and I
Had a dream of an old love affair
I was alone in the darkness my dear
Many dreams ago you left me there
Sunlight told me you were gone and I
Had a dream of an old love affair
Life's been so empty since you've been gone
I love you with all of my heart
Heaven was mine when you smiled last night
Well I'm tired of hearing your low down lies
And your running around on me
So just go ahead and get you a brand new man
Cause you done, got the best out of me
If your love is all that I get then I'm gettin' mighty thin
I ain't taking you back not one more time cause this time I'm gonna win
So don't give me your lies just go ahead and cry
I ain't takin' you back no more
There's just so much that a man can take and I've taken all I can
So you better be ready when you get home cause it's all gonna hit the fan
It's time to pay up and I'm your cashier so step into the check out line
I'm checkin' you out and I'm checkin' in to a brand new life this time
So don't give me your lies just go ahead and cry
I ain't takin' you back no more
Well you ride me like a pony every day but you ride me hard and put me up wet
I'm about as low as a snake can go and that's about as low as it gets
I'm tired of the sadle and the sadle is sore and the spurs dig into too deep
So goodbye so long ain't doing me wrong it's time to get a good night's sleep
So don't give me your lies just go ahead and cry
How many times have I started down this road that I'm still on
I think that it's all going fine and then I find it gone
How many times I just don't know
I remembered when I courted you so many years ago
I said I'll always love you and I'll never let you go
How many times I just don't know
=CHORUS=
How many times have I seen you go walking out that door
With crying eyes you'll tell me you not coming back no more
Then you turn around and tell me that you just can't seem to go
How many times I just don't know
=CHORUS=
Well I guess I finally realized the way that I went wrong
Buried things down deep inside that couldn't stay there long
How many times I just don't know
=CHORUS=
How many times have I seen you go walking out that door
With crying eyes you'll tell me you not coming back no more
Then you turn around and tell me that you just can't seem to go
How many time I just don't know
=CHORUS=
How long is this train son
I heard his fragile voice
I didn't want to listen but there really was no choice
It seems like it goes on forever and I waited for so long
The old man's breath came slow and smelled of whiskey in the dawn
On a cold November morning in the gentle mist of rain
There's just so many reasons that people wait to meet a train
And as I waited for my sister to come down the metal stairs
He told me that his son had not been home in fifteen years
And I barely seemed to notice the tears behind his face
But his wishes were no strangers to the people in this place
The old man stood there waiting for a young man dressed in blue
Then he handed him a neatly folded flag and said for you
He said your son he died a hero in the service of this flag
The old man took it gently put it in his paper bag
Then I left him in the rain there but I'd still hear his voice
I try hard not to listen but there really is no choice
On a cold November morning in the gentle mist of rain
There's just so many reasons that people wait to meet a train
How long is this train son
I can hear the pouring rain
Standing on the corner of Heartache and May
Indicision went down on me
I could stay and I could go but I'm a loser either way
I guess that's just the way it has to be
I've been man enough to tell you that I'm sorry when I'm wrong
You never will admit it when I'm not
Maybe you will finally forgive me when I'm gone
But I won't be there when you apologize
=Chorus=
Heads you win tails I lose
I can't get the upper hand no matter what I do
You'll always be the winner and I'll always be the fool
Heads you win tails I lose
=Chorus=
It used to make you happy just to have me for your own
I was everything you wanted me to be
Now you sit upon your high horse like a princess on her throne
Staring down your nose and finding faults in me
Standing on a mountain I can see from miles around
And the truth is slowly coming into view
Well you want to take me high but you always keep me down
There just ain't no way nor hope of pleasing you
=Chorus=
Heads you win tails I lose
I can't get the upper hand no matter what I do
You'll always be the winner and I'll always be the fool X2
Heads you win tails I lose
Faith is such a mystery
To lean on something you can't see
It's a rock our love was built upon
Oh, and it's strong enough to rely on
Faith in you is why I sing
Trust is quite another thing
It took some time but finally learned
Oh that it ain't no gift it's gotta be earned
If there's only one gift from God above
It's honest faithful trusting love
It's in your heart which I adore
Every day is a gamble, if you really want to make it through
When you live on the side of the mountain, and the babies all need food
I was the youngest one among us, I got sick and would not eat
Daddy prayed accept his fate, but Mommy would not heed
Carry me across the mountain, before it is too late
Heal my broken my body, death not be my fate
Carry me across the mountain, don't give up on me
I am but a helpless child, whose life depends on thee
Daddy warned against it, said you may not make it through
Momma wrapped me in her arms, crying what else can I do
There is a place across the mountain top, across the mountain side
They say there is a doctor there, might save our baby's life
Carry me across the mountain, before it is too late
Heal my broken my body, death not be my fate
Carry me across the mountain, don't give up on me
I am but a helpless child, whose life depends on thee
Now I stand upon the mountain top, before my mother's grave
And every year I visit here, to thank her for that day
Carry me across the mountain, before it is too late
Heal my broken my body, death not be my fate
I'm a man, flesh and blood
Of just one thing I'm sure
I was made from the dust
And to dust I will return.
But the dust aint the end
Cause in my heart I know
I'm spirit and so
To the Fathers home I go.
Chorus:
Be assured, be assured
If your trusting in the Lord
All who call on His name
Are gonna live forever more.
Oh I know, oh I know
Cause the spirit lives in me
The spirit of the son
Says a son I'll ever be.
Well I can be assured
That my home is up on high
I found it in the word
Of the one who'll never lie.
Chorus X2
If you live, if you live
In the darkness and the fear
There is love from above
He will wash away the tears.
Pouring love into you
The spirit of the son
Can flow through you
Don't forget me little darling while I'm growing old and gray
Just a little thought before I'm going far away
Cause I'll be waiting on the hillside for the day you will call
On the sunny side of the mountain where the rippling waters fall
Now darling, tell me in your letters do you ever think of me
Ah, tell me ... little darling tell me where you can be
Don't forget about the days we courted many years ago
Don't forget all those promises you gave me and so
It's been so long since I've seen you but your love still lingers on
