Plot: Set in Cape Town, Long Street is an intimately rendered portrait of the fragile relationship between recovering drug addict Sia (Sannie Fox) and her mother Maria (Roberta Fox). Sia is thrown out of rehab and has to return to her mother's home. The two women have long stopped trusting each other, and their relationship has collapsed into a simmering sea of anger and disappointment. At the same time, Sia's father is suffering from writer's block and has a deep desire to reconcile with his daughter and estranged wife, but cannot find a way to express himself. When a Zulu singer named Andiswa (Busi Mhlongo) enters their lives, her powerful presence and musical genius brings the mother and daughter together again. Andiswa uses the healing power of her voice to allow Sia and Maria to forge their relationship anew and discover things they didn't know about each other and themselves. This story is very close to director Revel Fox's own experience as a father. He dealt with his own daughter's heroin addiction and cast her and his wife to play Sia and Maria, both of whom are actresses and singers in their own right. The result is a poetic, powerful, music-driven film about contemporary middle class ennui in urban South Africa. With its sparse dialogue, Long Street is an authentic and gently moving film that tells its story with feeling, compassion and elegance.

Plot: Every year the most beautiful girl will be sacrificed to the Python God. But what really happens is that all the priests rape her, and then murder her, so that she cannot tell that the python god does not exist. When a girl named Sia is the next to be sacrificed, she hides in the house of the village idiot, a man who goes around shouting hyper-aggressive criticisms against everything. Sia is found by the soldiers and the village idiot is murdered. But the army commander had for some time prepared a revolt against the emperor. Now he murders the emperor and all the priests, thereby saving Sia from being raped. His plan is to make Sia's boyfriend the new emperor, an appointment to be justified by the lie that that boy had murdered the python god. At the same time Sia should be empress. However, Sia refuses to lie about what happened. Therefore she is declared a lunatic. In turn she develops exactly the same kind of behaviour as the village idiot had shown.

Yor smile I keep on file
You tickle me pink
I love the way you think
So when I'm feeling low I know
I'm your greatest fan
Little man I'm endlessly proud of you
In such a short time span
You've filled my heart with joy
As I grow older, you grow wiser
Watching my mistakes
Memorise where I've gone wrong
If they fall way
I'll stay with you
But do as I say and not as do
Trust me and you'll see
All I want is what is best for you
Little man yor head is full of dreams
If only I could spend one day touring
Your imagination
If I live longer you'll grow faster
At recognising the traps that cause
Me such frustration
If they fall way
I'll stay with you
But do as I say and not as I do
trust me and you'll see
All I want is what is best for you
So naive, it helps me to breathe
