Fifth Avenue originates at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and runs northwards through the heart of Midtown, along the eastern side of Central Park, where it forms the boundary of the Upper East Side and through Harlem, where it terminates at the Harlem River at 142nd Street. Traffic crosses the river on the Madison Avenue Bridge. Fifth Avenue serves as the dividing line for house numbering in Manhattan. It separates, for example, East 59th Street from West 59th Street. From this zero point for street addresses, numbers increase in both directions as one moves away from Fifth Avenue, with 1 West 59th Street on the corner at Fifth Avenue, and 300 West 59th Street located three blocks to the west of it.

Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer, actor, and businessman. He achieved early fame when he appeared as a contestant on Star Search, and went on to star in the Disney Channel television series The New Mickey Mouse Club, where he met future bandmate JC Chasez. Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age. He performed in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood. He graduated from high school and then moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a musical career. Mars produced songs for other artists, joining production team The Smeezingtons.
Mars had an unsuccessful stint with Motown Records, but then signed with Atlantic Records in 2009. He became recognized as a solo artist after lending his vocals and co-writing the hooks for the songs "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B, and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He also co-wrote the hits "Right Round" by Flo Rida featuring Ke$ha, and "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan. In October 2010, he released his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Andrew S. Dolkart, Professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, presents a colorful history of Neue Galerie New York's home at 1048 Fifth Avenue.
From its origin as one of Manhattan's finest private residences, to a museum for early twentieth century fine and decorative art from Germany and Austria, Professor Dolkart offers a candid account of the building, neighborhood, and the eccentric families who once occupied 1048 Fifth Avenue.
The building housing Neue Galerie New York is located at 1048 Fifth Avenue, at 86th Street, in an area known as Museum Mile. The building was completed in 1914 by Carrère & Hastings, also architects of the New York Public Library. It has been designated a landmark by the New York Landmarks Commission and is generally considered to be one of the most distinguished buildings ever erected on Fifth Avenue. Commissioned by industrialist William Starr Miller, it was later occupied by society doyenne Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt III and subsequently by the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. It was purchased by Ronald S. Lauder and Serge Sabarsky in 1994.
Annabelle Selldorf is the architect for the renovation of the building. Her work for Neue Galerie New York has involved restoring 1048 Fifth Avenue to its original state, while adapting it to the most stringent museum standards with regard to the display and preservation of works of art.
The building book, "1048 Fifth Avenue: From Mansion to Museum" by author Andrew S. Dolkart, can be purchased in-store or online at shop.neuegalerie.org.

This video clip was taken on our way home from our Virginia fall vacation. We decided to break up the 11 hour drive and stay overnight in Pittsburgh, a city that I had wanted to see for a long time. Pittsburgh is known for its stunning location on the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers which together form the Ohio River. The downtown area is referred to as the Golden Triangle, and at its tip, right where the rivers converge, there is Point State Park. Unfortunately Point State Park was closed off due to renovations, but we got a good look at the diverse architecture in downtown Pittsburgh which represents an eccelectic mix of old and new. Empire State Building Street Level Views From Fifth Avenue and 34th St
Here's some street level video I shot from just beneath the Empire State Building during the summer of 2012. It shows how imposing the building is when you're right under it. Most people are used to seeing it in a skyline view, which doesn't come close to giving you a feel for just how gigantic this building feels when you're standing at the bottom of it. It's not just tall. Its base takes up the better part of a city block. This video also shows the Fifth Avenue entrance, which is the best one to use if you plan to go up to the observation deck. Don't take the entrance on 34th Street. I did that once and you have to walk a long and winding route to get to the elevators that take you to the top. Stick with the main entrance on Fifth. Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Planning a trip to New York City? Take a stroll down Fifth Avenue with us in this travel video. You'll learn about all the wonderful things you'll discover on arguably the world's most famous boulevard.
Fifth Avenue is one of my favorite streets in New York City. I guess it’s more than a street it’s an avenue and an avenue in New York means that it runs North South. I suggest that you start at the metropolitan museum of art and you start walking downtown. and you’ll walk along the park and its really really beautiful. and then you’re going to hit the Plaza Hotel which is on fifty seventh street. and that’s really gorgeous.And then right after that you’ll hit Bergdorf Goodmans and then you’ll hit Harry Winstons. Harry Winstons is this really really expensive jewelry store that you have to make an appointment to go inside and they have enormous enormous diamond rings. Across the street from Harry Winstons is Tiffany’s, where you do not need an appointment to look at diamond rings so you should poke your head in there. Also in that neighborhood is FAO Schwarz. Which is a really famous gigantic toy store where you can buy like little kid Ferraris and gigantic life size lions and like the biggest Lego set in the whole entire world. Um, as you keep making your way downtown you’ll also hit Saint Patrick’s Cathedral which you should poke your head in too, its really beautifu.. and then of course you’re going to hit Rockefeller Center. Its cool to go to Rockefeller Center and watch all the other ice skaters and you know if its christmas season you can look at the tree. Fifth Avenue ends at Washington Square Park which is down in Greenwich Village and it ends at the Washington Square Park Monument, which is a wonderful really fun creative place to kind of go hang out. There’s a great park there and there’s always people playing guitar and theres a gigantic fountain that’s really famous. So that’s a little tour of Fifth Avenue definitely make the most of it. theres so much see You could spend all day bouncing around Fifth Avenue and kind of checking out all these different wonderful places and so many of them are free. So, um, What a great way to see New York City, right?

Playa del Carmen, or just "Playa", has undergone rapid development over the past two years with many new luxury residential condominium buildings, restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues. Currently there are plans to develop six luxury boutique hotels, several American chain restaurants including Hard Rock Cafe as well as a small upmarket shopping plaza offering designer boutiques, a small cinema, luxury condominiums and the first international House of Blues entertainment venue. Avenida Quinta is slated to become a cultural and economic stronghold for the Yucatan peninsula with the development of civic venues and up-market retail. Several luxury brands are currently developing retail locations, those under construction or already open including Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera, Paul & Shark, and Christian Dior. . Luxury department store Liverpool has opened their Riviera Maya flagship store in Playa del Carmen. Liverpool will anchor a large urban lifestyle center that includes retailers: Zara, Zara Home, H&M;, Massimo Dutti, Armani Exchange and Lacoste. Several international retailers will be new to Mexico including: Design Within Reach, Apple Store, Chipotle Mexican Grill and REI.
Playa del Carmen is located within the Riviera Maya, which runs from south of Cancún to Tulum and the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. Playa is a stop for several cruise ships which dock at the nearby Calica quarry docks, about six miles south of the city. The Xcaret Eco Park, a Mexican-themed "eco-archaeological park", is a popular tourist destination located just south of the town in Xcaret (pronounced "shkar-et"). Tourist activity in Playa del Carmen centers on Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, stretching from Calle 1 norte until Calle 40, a pedestrian walkway located just one or two blocks inland from the beach. Fifth Avenue is lined with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. There are many small boutique hotels on Fifth Avenue as well as just off Fifth Avenue and on the beach, such as Luna Blue Hotel & Bar, Fusion Beach Hotel Bar & Grill, Xtudio, Deseo, Basico, Casa Ticul, Barrio Latino, La Tortuga and many others.
The Playa del Carmen local community and government have attempted to retain Playa del Carmen's reputation and charm as a small fishing village and artists' colony, without it becoming as large and metropolitan as Cancún. The city passed an ordinance limiting buildings to five stories. Playa del Carmen is currently expanding north beyond the Colosio section and on the other side of highway 307, the Ejido.
Playacar is a residential and tourist development in Playa del Carmen, just south of the main urban area. In this development most of the all-inclusive hotels, the aviary, and the golf course are located. There are two phases, phase 1 is mostly residential with a few hotels and some stores. Phase 2 contains the largest all inclusive resorts along with the golf course and a significant number of residential properties. Playacar was developed starting in 1979 by Mr. Fernando Barbachano's company: Compania Impulsora Turistica de Playa del Carmen, S.A., The development was later sold to Aircoa, an American Corporation, which later sold the development to SIDEK of the Martinez Huitron Family and more recently sold to Mr. Ernesto Echeverria.
There is a significant Canadian, European and Argentinian influence in Playa, with a number of local business proprietors drawn from the American, South American and European expatriate community. In addition a significant amount of Playa's tourists include thousands of backpackers from around the world, who pass through Playa while touring Mexico and the surrounding region. There are currently three foreign consulates in Playa del Carmen representing the United States of America, Canada and Italy.
Recently Playa del Carmen city planners have taken initiative and have begun making the town more pedestrian friendly. A 4 km foot and bicycle path will run the length of the town along 10th Avenue in Centro, along with two additional foot and bicycle paths which will connect two commercial corridors near Centro Maya in south Playa del Carmen and Col. Las Americas where a state of the art municipal facility, city hall and theatre is being constructed alongside the largest master-planned urban development in Mexico. The city has also completed several urban spaces designed to provide a safe environment for families to enjoy outdoor activities, this includes two junior skate parks, an outdoor fitness gymnasium, tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court and children's play zone all of which are located underneath the federal highway, creating a covered space which is shaded throughout the lit at night. This space also provides shelter for pedestrians during inclement weather.

Along with Fifth Avenue and Grand Central Terminal/Station, the UN Headquarters is a definite must-see in Midtown on your New York City trip. It is a short 10 minute walk from Grand Central Station to the UN Headquarters.
The UN Headquarters is located on the East River, along First Avenue, between 42nd Street up to 48th Street. Construction of the UN Headquarters complex was begun in 1948 and was completed in 1952.
The UN Headquarters complex consists of four main buildings, the General Assembly Building, the Secretariat, the Conference Center, and the Dag Hammerskjold Library. There are also ancillary buildings outside the UN Headquarters complex that house UN institutions, such as United Nations Plaza.
Inside the UN Headquarters complex, you will see various artwork and installations, such as the "Knotted Gun." And no visit to the UN Headquarters would be complete without an official tour of the headquarters (see http://visit.un.org/wcm/content/ for information on visiting the UN Headquarters). On the tour you'll see one of the most important bodies at the UN, the Security Council. You'll also see the General Assembly. While it may not have the powers of the Security Council, it is just as well known, the UN General Assembly is also an impressive space. Each UN nation member has an equal vote in the General Assembly and issues that affect all nations are often discussed there.
During the UN Headquarters tour you'll also learn a lot about the de-mining, education, health, and humanitarian work that the United Nations engages in around the world through its affiliated organizations like the World Health Organization and United Nations Human Rights Council. The UN Headquarters complex consists of four main buildings, the General Assembly Building, the Secretariat, the Conference Center, and the Dag Hammerskjold Library. There are also ancillary buildings outside the UN Headquarters complex that house UN institutions, such as United Nations Plaza.
Inside the UN Headquarters complex, you will see various artwork and installations, such as the "Knotted Gun." On the tour you'll see one of the most important bodies at the UN, the Security Council. You'll also see the General Assembly. This video clip was taken on our way home from our Virginia fall vacation. We decided to break up the 11 hour drive and stay overnight in Pittsburgh, a city that I had wanted to see for a long time. Pittsburgh is known for its stunning location on the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers which together form the Ohio River. The downtown area is referred to as the Golden Triangle, and at its tip, right where the rivers converge, there is Point State Park. Unfortunately Point State Park was closed off due to renovations, but we got a good look at the diverse architecture in downtown Pittsburgh which represents an eccelectic mix of old and new. In total there are 151 skyscrapers in downtown Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh has a really interesting history, over the last few decades it has been transforming itself from an industrial centre dominated by the steel industry to a modern city that has undergone a process of revitalization. Today's Pittsburgh relies on an economic base that consists of education, tourism, healthcare, medicine and high technology. The diverse geography of the city provides great opportunities for outdoor recreation, and the city has more bridges than Venice - apparently 446 bridges in total. We explored a few of them in the downtown core.
After our mid-afternoon exploration of downtown we decided to check out Mount Washington, a residential neighbourhood on the south side of Pittsburgh, best known for its steep hill overlooking the skyline. One of Pittsburgh's unique features are its incline railways or funiculars, which connect the low-lying areas next to the river to the mountaintop. Of the 77 incline railways that used to exist here in the past only two remain: the Monongahela Incline and the more well-known Duquesne Incline. We took the Monongahela Incline which dates back to 1870, and within little more than 2 minutes and at an incline of 35 degrees we travelled up the mountain for a total distance of 194 metres. The view from the top is truly stunning, and this view has recently been named the second best vista in the United States.
We were able to enjoy the sunset from the top of Mount Washington and watch as all the skyscrapers of Pittsburgh started to light up. We also visited the Duquesne Incline and the nearby church of St. Mary on the Mount. After our descent we spent some more time at Station Square, a former railway station that has been turned into an entertainment district with numerous shopping and dining opportunities. A few hours in Pittsburgh were certainly not enough to explore this scenic and historic city, but it was enough to confirm that this city will need to be explored in further detail.

Here's some street level video I shot from just beneath the Empire State Building during the summer of 2012. It shows how imposing the building is when you're right under it. Most people are used to seeing it in a skyline view, which doesn't come close to giving you a feel for just how gigantic this building feels when you're standing at the bottom of it. It's not just tall. Its base takes up the better part of a city block.
This video also shows the Fifth Avenue entrance, which is the best one to use if you plan to go up to the observation deck. Don't take the entrance on 34th Street. I did that once and you have to walk a long and winding route to get to the elevators that take you to the top. Stick with the main entrance on Fifth.

It's not just tall. Its base takes up the better part of a city block.
This video also shows the Fifth Avenue entrance, which is the best one to use if you plan to go up to the observation deck. Don't take the entrance on 34th Street. I did that once and you have to walk a long and winding route to get to the elevators that take you to the top. Stick with the main entrance on Fifth.

1. Rockefeller Center
This is one of the most crowded areas in NYC at this time. Try to come early or late and avoid the crowd!
2. Sacks Fifth Avenue Light Show
Right across the street from the Rockefeller tree is Sacks Fifth Avenue. Their holiday light show gets better every year so don't miss it!
3. Holiday Window Displays
Start at the bottom of Central Park and walk down admiring the incredible Holiday Window Displays at some of New York's most famous stores:

Join Shepherd Entertainment on a tour to the Rockefeller Center and it surrounding buildings in New York.
Perhaps, the oldest seasoned hotel of the city is the Chelsea. Among its first guests were Mark Twain and his fellow writer, the chronicler of his hometown, O. Henry. The stars of the Barnum Circus also stayed here as well as the grand actress, Sarah Bernard. One of the most respected actors of our age, Dustin Hoffman, lived here for years, just as Arthur Miller who wrote his play entitled "Death of a Salesman" here. Visitors included Laurence Olivie, Janice Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe. Arthur C. Clark wrote several of his science fiction works here. The poet Dylan Thomas and writer Thomas Wolfe died here at the Chelsea. Rockefeller Sanders, the largest connected skyscraper city of the world with a total of 21buildings. It is located in the heart of Manhattan between fifth and sixth Avenues. The lower Rockefeller Plaza decorated with the flags of the United Nation member-states is the center of the building complex. The skating rink is used by thousands of tourists and locals from autumn to spring. While in summer, specialties of English and French restaurants can be enjoyed in sunshine or under paracels. The gilded Prometheus statue dominates the square. At the beginning of 19th century, the area was the permanent residence of notable families with Palaces of the Asters and the Vanderbilts adorning the neighborhood. A hundred years later, the locations of lost in value due to the since demolished high railway which caused too much noise for the millionaires.
During the era of prohibition, secret bars were opened in rundown houses in the area. Finally, the son of Oil-millionaire Rockefeller rented the site of which they have the largest opera house of the world built; but, due to the great depression, he abandoned the area and started a more lucrative business. He commissioned the architect Wallace K. Harrison to plan a building complex consisting of several office buildings. Rockefeller Sanders is still the largest privately-owned office and entertainment center in the world where 35,000 people are working with the visitor's member many times at.
The Catholic Church finished in 1879 bears the name of Ireland's patron saint, St. Patrick. One of the largest churches of New York looks small next to the skyscrapers, Rockefeller Center and the Olympic Airways building. The headquarters of RCA, the largest radio and television producer is in one of the buildings of the Rockefeller Center. On the other side of the block is the famous radio city music hall built in the 1930's. The hall has a sitting capacity of 6,200 and the audience is entertained by artists and symphony orchestra and dance ensemble. This is followed by a film premiere in the second part of the program.
We're walking on the heart of the big apple to the south from central park and a bit farther south from the Rockefeller center, one corner away from the famous Times' Square. This area is famous for its theaters among others for the Saint James, the Eugene O'Neal, the Biltmore, the Edison, the Majestic, the Playhouse, the Helen Hayes, the Palace, the Royal, and the Ambassador theaters.
The world renowned Carnegie Hall is also nearby where Chikosky conducted the orchestra at its opening ceremony. During the more than hundred years since then, Toscanini, Stravinsky, Rubenstein, Stokowski, Morowitz, Menoen, and Bernstein have conducted here and the jazz performances have included such names as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basy, and—. the old concert hall has been threatened several times of demolition; but, the world's greatest musicians have always managed to collect enough money with their occasional concerts to be able to prevent this the New York state theater, the Phil Harmonic Hall and the new Metropolitan Opera House are located in Lincoln Center in the same destitute area where the gangs of Westside Story fought for life and death. 188 old buildings were destroyed to make room for this new giant planned by the architect of the Kennedy airport, the UN palace and the Rockefeller Center, Wallace K. Harrison. The metropolitan opera with 3,800 seats opened its doors in the spring of 1966. Its monumental 112-foot high entrance colonnade is decorated by murals by Mark Segal.
